JoJo Siwa Calls 5-Year-Old Cancer Patient Right Before Surgery
JoJo Siwa chatted with a 5-year-old cancer patient before surgery, telling her everything would work out and she would kick cancer's butt.
| Photo: Jason Bergenfeld |
As you see in the conversation between JoJo and Blakely Bergenfeld in the video below, JoJo's a pro at putting her young fans at ease, patiently answering the little girl's questions.
Blakely's parents, Jason and Kimberly Bergenfeld, told TMZ that the cancer diagnosis was sudden, after the little girl began experiencing headaches and fevers during a recent family ski trip.
TMZ is told Blakely's parents took her to a pediatrician when they got back to L.A., and the doctor noticed her liver was swollen and rushed her to the ER at L.A. Children's Hospital.
Blakely's dad says his daughter underwent a series of tests, and that's when doctors discovered cancer in her kidney. She underwent surgery to remove a giant tumor on her kidney on Friday, January 7.
TMZ has been told the surgery went even better than planned. She had to have her kidney removed because it was close to rupturing and would have been terminal if they had not treated it in time. The doctors also found tumors on her liver and lungs, which were removed. The doctors will know in the next few days exactly what stage and type of cancer she has, but she is stable and past the first step on her road to recovery.
It's been a whirlwind few days - TMZ was told Blakely had appeared completely healthy before she started feeling ill.
JoJo got involved after learning of Blakely's diagnosis through Dance Moms star Kira Girard and her husband, who are close friends with the Bergenfelds.
Blakely is a huge JoJo fan and was supposed to meet her at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards last March before the format was changed due to COVID.
JoJo wanted to personally reach out to Blakely before she went under the knife, reports TMZ, even offering to help the family cover medical expenses.
NickALive! sends its best wishes to Blakely and her family.

JoJo Siwa Adds 'The J Team' Song 'Dance Through The Day' to Tour Set After Nickelodeon Previously Said No
JoJo Siwa confirms she is getting to perform new music on tour after all!
The 18-year-old entertainer shared a video on Instagram from tour rehearsal this week, and shared at least one new song that is being added to the set list.
“Tour rehearsals DAY 2 were a success!!🤩🙏🏻 Dance Through The Day is D.R.E.A.M. The Tour READY!!” JoJo captioned the video clip.
“Dance Through The Day” is the opening number in her new Paramount+ movie The J Team. It is one of the six new songs that came out with the movie musical, which was released this fall.
Back in September, JoJo shared on social media that Nickelodeon, who produced the movie with Awesomeness, was not allowing her to perform her new songs from the movie.
JoJo and her dancers kicked off rehearsals this week for the D.R.E.A.M. The Tour, which resumes in January 2022. Tour dates and tickets are available at https://www.jojodreamtour.com.

JoJo Siwa Shares Her Frustration at Nickelodeon Ahead of Her Tour
JoJo Siwa claims Nickelodeon is blocking her from performing certain songs from her movie musical The J Team during her tour

JoJo Siwa took to social media on Tuesday (Sept. 14) to share her frustrated feelings toward Nickelodeon surrounding her upcoming tour. The singer, who recently released her musical film The J Team on Paramount+, says that Nickelodeon — who produced the film — isn't allowing her to perform her own songs from the movie on her 37-city D.R.E.A.M. tour that begins in January.
"I go out on tour in January. My movie musical was just released (with 6 new original songs)… Nickelodeon told me today that I'm not allowed to perform/add any of the songs from the film into my show," Siwa wrote on Twitter. "These are MY songs, MY voice, MY writing. Does this seem fair???"
The Dancing with the Stars contestant continued to air her frustration in another tweet, writing, "There is no reason that this music should not be included. Working for a company as a real human being treated as only a brand is fun until it's not."
Following rescheduled dates due to the pandemic, Siwa's Nickelodeon's JoJo Siwa D.R.E.A.M. The Tour is set to begin on Jan. 13, 2022. The tour supports two of the singer's recent EPs, 2018's D.R.E.A.M. the Music and 2019's Celebrate, and Siwa was hoping to perform additional original tunes by adding songs from her new movie to her set list.
It's unclear why Nickelodeon would push back against the actor performing songs that she wrote, since the company was involved in making the film. But this isn't the first time Siwa has spoken out when it comes to her career. Back in June, she made headlines when she told EW that she hoped a kissing scene would be cut from her new movie Bounce, because she didn't want to "kiss another human, especially because it's a man." She later tweeted confirmation that Paramount had complied with her request and that the scene had been removed from the film.
JoJo first came to prominence as one of the students featured in two seasons of the reality show Dance Moms. From there, she has grown into a YouTube personality, teen entertainer, and arguably one of the most influential people in the world. She has hit songs, fills stadiums for her concerts, and has overall talent and consumer product agreements with Nickelodeon, which has seen the starlet feature in movies and TV shows and her name and face put on all sorts of products thanks to merchandizing deals with Target, Walmart, and JC Penney. Since signing with Nickelodeon, the duo have enjoyed a successful partnership.
In addition to the tour, Siwa has been busy preparing for the upcoming DWTS season where she makes history as the first female celebrity paired with a female pro dancer.
"They asked, would I be more comfortable with a female or with a male and immediately I knew for myself I would be way more comfortable with a girl," Siwa explained during an appearance on PEOPLE (the TV Show!) last week.
Update (9/17):
JoJo Siwa says her relationship with Nickelodeon isn't fractured beyond repair amid a dispute over her upcoming tour ... but she says it's gonna take a lot for them to mend fences.
TMZ got JoJo outside the Loews Hotel in NYC and asked her about Tuesday's beef with Nickelodeon. She says the network's blocking her from performing songs from her recently released musical when she embarks on a 37-city tour in January.
JoJo told us her problem is Nickelodeon treating her like she's just a brand ... and forgetting she's a person too.
When asked if she and Nickelodeon have been able to reach an agreement on her singing songs from The J Team on stage. "There has been a [response], but it's not on me to share," Siwa said. "I love my brand, but I think it's forgotten that I'm a human sometimes and that hurts."
Siwa's relationship with Nickelodeon isn't beyond repair, though. The performer said she thinks she can "of course" work things out with the children's entertainment company, but that she's going to do what she wants when she's performing. "I work for Nickelodeon. It just makes me frustrated that someone is telling me what I can and can't sing, and these people have been at Nickelodeon for less time than I have. ... When I'm on stage, I'm going to sing whatever I want. I'm going to sing what I want. Even if it's a cappella, I'm going to sing it. I just wish they were as supportive of this movie as I was."
You can tell from her tone - JoJo's ticked off the relationship's gone south. She says she's frustrated folks with less tenure than her at Nickelodeon are trying to call the shots on what she can and can't sing.
Sounds like JoJo's hopeful they can still come to an agreement before her tour, but she also leaves open the possibility of going against the grain.
Watch her interview with TMZ.
Update (9/22) - JoJo Siwa Opens Up About Taking a Stand for Her Music Ahead of Tour:
JoJo Siwa is ready to fight for her music. Entertainment Tonight's Lauren Zima spoke to the 18-year-old singer following her incredible performance on Monday's Dancing With the Stars, and the teen gave an update on her quest to include music from her film, The J Team, on her upcoming tour, Nickelodeon's JoJo Siwa D.R.E.A.M. The Tour.
"Making my show the best that it possibly can be is what's important to me," Siwa said. "If I have to sing the songs from The J Team acapella I will very unhappily do that, but I will happily do that [for my fans]."
Siwa previously claimed that Nickelodeon told her she's "not allowed to perform" her J Team songs on tour, but revealed to ET that she was hoping for an update from the network soon. ET has reached out to Nickelodeon for comment.
"I think that, as an artist, I have a vision and I think that, as a human, I also have a brand," she said. "I think that it only makes sense to have this music in my tour. It's a part of me. It's a part of the brand. It's a part of what we are doing right now."
"It's honestly beyond me why anyone would not want the music from this film to be in the tour, but it is what it is," Siwa continued. "At the end of the day, I'm gonna go out there and I'm gonna do what I love and I'm gonna sing my songs. Behind closed doors, whatever goes on, that's what goes on."

Over the course of the tour, "I'm going to be performing for over a million people, which is something I've only dreamed of," Siwa told The Hollywood Reporter of the new dates. She is also hoping to add two more songs to the set list, including one original song and one cover song. (Siwa also teased that she has "three huge projects" in the works but said "they are super-duper top secret. I can't talk more about them.")
Siwa will donate $1 for every ticket sold to Dancers Against Cancer, which strives to create an alliance in the dance community by providing financial support and inspiration to dance educators, choreographers, dancers and their family members who have been impacted by cancer.
"I love what I get to do, and I love getting to make other people feel happy, and I love getting to entertain," Siwa said, adding that she's aware she's a role model to young kids, but doesn't feel pressure because of that fact: "I don't feel pressure to be something that I personally am not. I am who I am, that there are people who say, 'Don't you want to be like this?' No, I'm so happy with being who I am."
Meanwhile, the TV special, titled JoJo's D.R.E.A.M. Concert, will premiere at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22. The special includes live concert performances from the tour, fan interviews, candid moments of Siwa talking about her favorite parts of the tour and the inspirations behind some of her favorite songs; her catalog includes "Boomerang," which has been watched more than 782 million times and is RIAA-certified platinum. “Kid in a Candy Store,” which is RIAA-certified gold; “Hold the Drama”; and “D.R.E.A.M.”
"The TV special is really exciting," Siwa said. "It's kind of like a version of my concert, which changes unofficially with every single show. There are so many elements in the show that you miss them the first time you're seeing it. I'm excited that people will get to watch it over and over. There is also a bit of behind-the-scenes stuff, and you'll see me interacting with the dancers and backstage crew, but the show is based around the concert."

From HollywoodLife:
JoJo Siwa Teases ‘Worldwide Party Remix’Vid & Promises Tour Will Be ‘Bigger & BetterThan Before’
JoJo Siwa fans, are you ready to party?! We have an exclusive look at JoJo’s new ‘Worldwide Party Remix’ video before it drops tomorrow!
While you’re going to have to wait until tomorrow at 3 PM ET/12:00 PT for JoJo Siwa’s highly anticipated music video for “Worldwide Party Remix,” we have a quick clip to hold you over! In it, JoJo’s gathering her gang from far and wide to come dance and party with her. “Worldwide Party is one of my favorite songs to perform on tour. My fans love it so I had to remix it!” JoJo told HL, exclusively. “No matter where you are in the world, no matter what language you speak, it is all a worldwide party!”
Sounds fun, right?! Well, luckily you’re invited, too, because JoJo’s tour is kicking off Next week! The bow mogul’s D.R.E.A.M. tour continues it’s next leg on March 11 in Colorado Springs and will return to many cities including New York, where she will headline the legendary venue Madison Square Garden. “My 2020 tour is going to be bigger and better than before – bigger and better costumes, bigger and better props! Even if you’ve seen my show before, you haven’t seen it like this,” JoJo exclaimed.
“For me, it’s just so fun. I have a blast on tour,” JoJo told HL about her decision to extend the tour. “When Nickelodeon and AEG wanted me to do more. I was like, obviously the answer is going to be yes. I would never say no! It’s so much fun every single day.” While you might be wondering how JoJo Siwa does it all, from her vlogging to her merch line to her tour, she credits “a lot of ramen noodles” for getting her through! “That’s not a secret. I eat a lot of ramen noodles on tour. It’s how I stay so happy,” she laughed.
JoJo also gushed over her huge posse of fans, who know every move and every lyric, and also lock to rock her massive bow collection! “My fans are the most amazing people in the world. And I know people say that, but truly, they are. Some of my fans are so young, I don’t even think that they know that they are the most awesome people ever!” she gushed. “It’s really cool to me that I have that impact on the little, little kids. The first thing I really loved was Hannah Montana, and now I’m that for some kids. It’s just crazy.”
Speaking of Hannah Montana, JoJo got to meet her hero, Miley Cyrus, just the other day and shared the special moment on Instagram! “Miley Cyrus is the reason I’m doing what I’m doing today,” she wrote under a photo of herself and Miley together. “Today I met Miley and had the best conversation of my life with her. This is a day I never thought would happen. And now a day I will never forget.”

JoJo Siwa Teases Her New Music
JoJo Siwa is getting ready to give us new music!
While promoting her sold out D.R.E.A.M. The Tour, the 16-year-old Nickelodeon star revealed that she has new music coming out soon.
“I have actually nine new songs that are already done, that are coming out hopefully soon,” JoJo shared with Idolator before saying that she’ll be releasing them slowly and one at a time.
“I don’t think I will release them all and then go away for a year and go work on more stuff,” JoJo said. “I wanted people to keep being excited because new things keep coming out.”
JoJo then said that she’s changing up the sound of her music a bit to make it sound more “real.”
I’m trying to bring real music, instruments, back into my music,” JoJo added. “That’s what I’m trying to do with my new stuff, is make sure that it is going to be based around real music.”
JoJo also revealed that she is planning to release a new album! "That is on the horizon and I do have a timeline in my head with it," dished JoJo, "but that’s definitely in the future. It’s not currently."
I can’t wait to hear what JoJo has been working on!
The social media sensation has been busy lately, including moving home.
The former Dance Moms cast member recently opened up about how her signature logo - which looks like a heart with a loop on the end, is also present on all the JoJo merchandise that's available for sale and sometimes painted across one of her eye when she performs - came to be, and what it means to her. "You might not know this but my logo is a combination of a Heart, Infinity sign, and a Star," she explained in the post. "They each represent something special... The Heart represents loving everyone, The Star represents being different (no 2 stars are the same), and the Infinity Sign represents being you forever! Thought I would share that with all of you!"
From Idolator:
Interview: JoJo Siwa Talks ‘D.R.E.A.M. The Tour’ & New Music
JoJo Siwa's 'Celebrate' EP Kid-friendly bops! Teen sensation JoJo Siwa drops her second EP, 'Celebrate.'
In addition to being a wildly popular Nickelodeon star and YouTube sensation, JoJo Siwa is also a budding pop artist. The 16-year-old has already released two EPs — Celebrate and D.R.E.A.M. — and embarked on one of 2019’s most successful tours. In fact, 80 of the whopping 96 dates of D.R.E.A.M. The Tour sold out. Which is why the teen mogul is bringing it back for another 50 shows in 2020 (see all the dates and buy tickets here). Oh, and she’s also starring in her very own TV special, which airs on Nickelodeon on November 22.
I recent spoke with JoJo about her new concert dates, and she explained that D.R.E.A.M. The Tour has undergone radical changes including new costumes, new props, new lighting and new songs. Speaking of which, the “Boomerang” hitmaker also revealed that she has recorded nine new tracks and is in the very early stages of thinking about an album. Other topics of conversation included her custom-wrapped car, connecting with fans and managing unkind comments on social media. Get to know JoJo a little better in our Q&A below.
You have some exciting tour news. How long have you been planning the next leg of D.R.E.A.M. The Tour?
I’m a terrible secret keeper. No, wait, that’s a lie. I’m a really good secret keeper. If my friend tells me a super serious secret and she really doesn’t want it to be told, then obviously, I’m not going to tell. But stuff like this, where it’s really exciting, and I’m really happy to share with it the world. It was really difficult for me to keep it a secret, but it’s been about three months now that I’ve known about this.
How is it different from your last tour?
The thing is, it is still D.R.E.A.M. The Tour. But we are making sure that there are incredible changes to it. We’re going to elevate the show to a level that I didn’t think was possible. We’re going to upgrade everything. We’re going to add a couple of new songs. We’re going to change costumes, change props, change lighting, change the scenes. We’re going to add a whole new world into it. There is going to be a lot that’s different, but it is going to be based around the same thing.
Did you add extra shows due to fan demand?
Yes! They want to see more and I want to give them a different show. A lot of people — over 500,000 people — have already seen it. I want to make sure that I’m giving people a reason to come back to see what’s new.
Does this also mean that you have some new music coming?
I do. I have actually nine new songs that are already done, that are coming out hopefully soon.
Are you releasing an album or another EP?
I think I’m going to release them slowly. I don’t think I will release them all and then go away for a year and go work on more stuff. I wanted people to keep being excited because new things keep coming out.
Is the sound the same as your previous songs?
It’s not. I’m trying to bring real music, instruments, back into my music. That’s what I’m trying to do with my new stuff, is make sure that it is going to be based around real music.
Have you started thinking about an album?
That is on the horizon and I do have a timeline in my head with it, but that’s definitely in the future. It’s not currently.
I was recently in West Hollywood and saw you driving a car that was covered in your face.
That was definitely my car. That’s what I drive around town in.
Really?
I’m dead serious. [Laughs]. Why would I lie about that?
How did that come about?
I don’t know which one you saw but I have two cars. I have one where my entire face is all over the car, then I have another car that I call my dream car because the whole car is literally D.R.E.A.M. The Tour. It’s an incredible car. I love it so much. Depending on the one that you saw, both of them I just got them wrapped, paid for it, and drove away.
Do you like driving?
I love it. It’s so fun. I have a blast driving.
You’re not scared in LA? The traffic is crazy.
It’s really weird because everyone says that. The thing is this is the only place that I have driven. I don’t have anything to compare it to. Therefore, it’s all I know. So you don’t know the difference because all you know is the one that you know.
Can you tell me about your upcoming TV special?
It’s really exciting! Nickelodeon and I, we created three TV specials. The first one was digital. We did a whole bunch of digital video, digital content to show people the behind the scenes of the tour, and what tour life is like. That was really fun. I enjoyed that very much. Then we created a behind-the-scenes look into tour life and that was the last TV special that aired. This one is now at my concert. This one is really what my show is and what my show is about. That’s why this one is my favorite documentary.
Is it the whole show?
It’s all just the concert. Anyone who hasn’t seen it will get to see the show and anybody who wants to re-see it can do so. There’s also a lot of behind the scenes tour in it.
How do you feel about being so open on social media?
My life is pretty incredible and I have fun every day in my life. For me, it’s really cool that I get to bring people along on this journey with me of my life.
How did you get so many YouTube followers?
For me, it’s about being genuine. For me, it’s about being real in who I am. I think that translates and I think kids like it when things are relatable. I feel like I’m relatable.
People can also be a little unkind on social media.
Yes.
How do you manage that?
Honestly, it can be tough because people are just so mean sometimes. My thing is there’s so many really nice people that there’s no reason to let the mean people overrule the nice people.
That’s a good attitude. What’s your favorite song to perform on the tour?
My favorite song to perform? Oh boy. I think probably, “High Top Shoes.” That’s my favorite of my songs. It is one of the hardest of my songs to perform live but it really is so fun.
Why is it the hardest?
It just requires a lot of energy. They all do, but “High Top Shoes” is tough. It’s also in the middle of the show. It’s literally the middle song. That’s also makes it hard.
Congratulations on the new tour dates. Good luck!
Thank you so much.
