North American First Lady Michelle Obama Says London 2012 Olympics Can Promote Health And Fitness

From CBS News:
Michelle Obama says Olympics can promote health and fitness

(CBS News) First Lady Michelle Obama is preparing to lead the presidential delegation at the kick-off of the 2012 Olympic Games Friday and, she said, this is an opportunity to encourage kids to improve their health and fitness.

"Leading our nation's delegation and traveling to London is truly a dream come true," Obama said on a conference call with reporters Monday. "Some of my fondest memories when I was young and not so young involved watching the Olympics on TV and cheering on Team USA."

Obama will lead a delegation that includes past U.S. Olympians such as Brandi Chastain, Dominique Dawes, Grant Hill and Summer Sanders.

The first lady, who has made fighting childhood obesity a priority with her "Let's Move" initiative, said the games are an opportunity to promote health and fitness.

"I decided I wanted to turn that Olympic spirit and inspiration into action by using these games as a way to get more kids up and moving."

Obama said she is excited to host a "Let's Move!" event for 1,000 American military children and American and British students Friday. The event, co-sponsored by the State Department and by Nickelodeon [and will include an appearance by 'SpongeBob SquarePants'], will include sports stations, entertainment and appearances by Olympic and Paralympic legends.

She also declared July 28 "Let's Move! Olympic Fun Day," encouraging children and communities to cheer on Team USA and participate in athletic events across the country. At least 200 communities have signed up, and the number is expected to grow throughout the week.

While in London, in addition to her fitness campaign, Obama will also attend a reception for heads of state and hold a private meeting with Samantha Cameron, the wife of British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes said the trip is an important way for the first lady to continue building the special relationship between the U.S. and the U.K.

"While this visit is about the Olympics, its also about advancing the close ties between the U.S. and the United Kingdom," Rhodes said.

Obama will conclude her trip Sunday with a visit to Mildenhall Air Force Base in England to visit American military families.

First Lady in London for Games

Michelle Obama will add her backing to Team USA as she begins a trip to the capital in support of the London Olympics.

The US First Lady will meet her nation's Olympians in an event at their east London training ground, before holding an event for 1,000 children aimed at boosting their interest in the Games.

Mrs Obama is leading the US presidential delegation which includes a ringside seat at the opening ceremony.

She begins her visit on Friday at the University of East London, where she will offer her support to athletes at an informal breakfast.

Later she will host a sporting event - called Let's Move! - at the US ambassador's residence in central London for about 1,000 US military children plus US and British students.

Let's Move! is an initiative created by the First Lady in a drive to combat childhood obesity within a generation.

David Beckham and Manchester United stars are also set to appear at the event, as well as Mark Ronson, Katy B and The Wanted - with SpongeBob SquarePants and the Power Rangers on hand to entertain the children.

Former gymnast Nadia Comaneci, ex-sprinter Carl Lewis and members of the US track and field team who will be competing at London 2012 are among the line-up of famous sporting faces set to attend.

It is hoped the sports stations provided by Nickelodeon, the NBA and USA Basketball, US Tennis Association, USA Field Hockey, USA Track and Field, Manchester United and Right to Play will help the youngsters get active.

Earlier this week Mrs Obama said coming to London for the Olympics was "a dream come true" and said she was "beyond proud" to be leading the delegation.

"If anybody had asked me when I was 10 or 11, or actually 40, whether I would have been doing this, I would have bet not," she said.

"Some of my fondest memories when I was young and not so young involved watching the Olympics on TV and cheering on Team USA."

Tonight she will attend a Buckingham Palace reception for heads of state, hosted by the Queen, with whom she struck up a warm friendship on previous visits.

On Saturday the US delegation is spearheading an Olympic fun day to allow US youngsters to cheer on their athletes in London and try out different sports in their neighbourhoods.

Mrs Obama said: "I am very excited about this trip for so many reasons but I am excited that it will serve as a powerful opportunity to send another message to the kids in this country and other countries about the importance of staying fit, learning to compete and staying healthy.

"This is not just about sports, this is about being active."

Cartoon fun set to Light up the town

GET ready for SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals to light up the Promenade. For the Nickelodeon characters are set to help celebrate the centenary of the Illuminations as part of a £75,000 new feature. The council has funded the manufacturing cost of the display from its £2m annual Illuminations budget. But Nickelodeon has allowed the bosses to use the image rights at no cost and the features will hang above the Promenade outside the Pleasure Beach. Pleasure Beach managing director Amanda Thompson said: “The council wanted to have some new Illuminations which reflected the changes happening in Blackpool. Coun Graham Cain, cabinet member for tourism and culture on Blackpool Council, added: “Part of the investment in the Illuminations for the centenary is £75,000 in making Nickelodeon come to life outside the Pleasure Beach. The Pleasure Beach has brokered the deal and it is an absolute credit to everyone. “Nickelodeon characters are recognised all over the world so there is no doubt they will be a hugely popular feature.” Artists have been working on the features since May at the council’s Lightworks base in South Shore. Sarah Barton, one of the artists, said: “Because the characters are so well known we have had to get them as accurate as possible and mix the colours to Nickelodeon standards. “I’m sure they will be really popular on the Promenade.” Nickelodeon’s Tina McCann added: “Being part of one of the UK’s most iconic cultural events during such an important year is simply brilliant.”

One Direction's Louis Tomlinson And Zayn Malik Help Nickelodeon To Prank Their 1D Band Mates Harry Styles, Liam Payne And Niall Horan

From Examiner.com:
One Direction: special appearance on 2012 Teen Choice Awards; Nickelodeon prank

Even though One Direction is in England on the same night that the 2012 Teen Choice Awards show takes place in Los Angeles on July 22, the group will make a pre-recorded appearance on the show. Meanwhile, Nickelodeon has released a video in which One Direction's Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have pulled a prank on their band mates Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan.

One Direction's official Twitter account tipped off the Teen Choice Awards appearance by posting this message on July 22, 2012: "Don’t miss 1D on The #TeenChoice Awards TONIGHT! Tune in to Fox at 8 PM EST to watch for the special appearance. 1DHQ x"

The announcement has many people assuming that One Direction has won at least one award and will appear in a video giving an acceptance speech.

The 2012 Teen Choice Awards are set to be presented at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Fox is televising the awards show in the U.S. at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific Time. One Direction was unable to attend the awards show in person, due to the group performing at radio festivals in Leeds and Manchester, England, on July 22, 2012.

"The X Factor" U.S. judge Demi Lovato and "Glee" co-star Kevin McHale are co-hosting the 2012 Teen Choice Awards.

Stars from "The X Factor" (including Lovato, One Direction and Simon Cowell) have received nominations at the awards show. "The X Factor" U.S. is also nominated. Voting is done online by the public.

One Direction came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010 and has since gone on to have No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in several countries.

Meanwhile, in the Nickelodeon prank, an actress hired to portray a pregnant Nickelodeon producer pretends to go into labor during a videotaped interview with One Direction. The video shows Tomlinson and Malik trying to keep straight faces as Styles frantically asks for help. Meanwhile, Payne attempts to reach the "producer's husband" on the phone but he keeps getting disconnected. Horan remains the calmest during the prank, as if he's not quite sure he is believing what he is seeing.

'Can somebody help us?': One Direction's Harry Styles freaks out as woman 'goes into labour' during TV appearance

As a group, they're known for their love of joking around and playing pranks on unsuspecting victims.

But now One Direction have been on the receiving end for once.

With Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik in on a Nickelodeon Prank, the band find themselves tricked in to believing a producer is about to give birth right in front of them.

Panic: One Direction believed their producer was going into labour as part of a hilarious prank organised by Nickelodeon

The devious duo hired an actress to play a Nickelodeon producer with a huge prosthetic bump and went from there.

'We're going to have a bit of fun with it and see what their natural reaction is,' Zayn says.

The actress more or less immediately starts saying she feels uncomfortable, and while the boys try to seek advice on what to do, they find they are alone in the building with her.

Labour pains: Harry seemed particularly concerned and made an effort to pacify the woman
However, the band start to panic when the producer's labour pains go from bad to worse, and she starts screaming and crying.

Harry Styles immediately springs in to action in the hope of finding help.

'Why is no-one here? Can somebody help us?!' he shouts manically.

'Your wife is giving birth': Liam was charged with the task of calling the pregnant woman's husband and telling him she was in labour

Liam Payne initially tries to make the woman comfortable, and is then tasked with calling her husband to tell him his baby is on the way.

'We're with your wife and she's in a lot of pain,' he says. 'We know she's pregnant and she might be giving birth.'

Amid the mass panic, some humour is injected into the situation when Harry and Louis complain of a strange smell.

'Why is no-one here?': Harry panicked when he realised they were the only ones in the room with the pregnant producer

Giving birth: At one point, Harry and Zayn had to pick up the actress as she fell to the floor
'I'm sorry, I farted. I'm pregnant,' the actress says to the boys, who then collapse into a fit of giggles.

As her moans and groans reach fever pitch, the boys seem to be on the edge of breakdown when she tells them it was all a joke.

Niall Horan and Liam are visibly shocked, while Louis and Zayn high five and hug.

Jokers: Zayn and Louis were thrilled to have caught out their bandmates with the prank
But it's all a bit much for Harry, who collapses on the floor and then has to be consoled by the actress.

'Harry was the worst! You were so embarrassing,' Louis says.

But it seems Harry had other things on his mind throughout the experience.

'I was actually thinking, "This is going to be a great press story; One Direction deliver a child",' he joked.

Traumatised: Harry had to be comforted by the actress after he realised he'd been tricked

Headlines: Harry thought the incident would have made a fantastic newspaper story

One Direction fooled by pregnancy prank

One Direction were given a fright after they were roped into helping a pregnant woman go through labour as part of a TV prank.

Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson decided to have some fun at the expense of bandmates Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, who flew into a panic thinking a TV producer named only as Stephanie was about to give birth before their Nickelodeon interview.

The mum-to-be, who was actually an actress wearing a fake baby bump, began screaming in 'pain', shouting, "The baby is coming! The baby is coming right now!" as she collapsed into Styles' arms.

Payne then placed a frantic call to Stephanie's husband, telling him, "I'm with your wife, she's pregnant and she might be giving birth! You want to be here!"

As the boys crowded around the screaming actress, she then gave up the stunt by exclaiming, "I refuse to give birth on this floor... because you all have been pranked by Nickelodeon!"

An embarrassed Styles later told viewers, "I was actually thinking this is going to be a great press story - One Direction delivers child! I can't believe we got pranked."

One Direction Pranked By Fake Pregnant Woman On Nickelodeon - Video

Harry Styles was left looking gob smacked as Louis and Zayn play a trick on the rest of the band.

One Direction's Harry Styles was left stunned and relieved after band mates Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik played a prank on the rest of the group with the help of Nickelodeon recently.

The 'What Makes You Beautiful' stars enlisted the help of a fake pregnant producer to fool the singers into thinking she was heading into labour.

Immediately as the woman showed signs of giving birth, Harry can be seen with a look of horror as he helps to console her whilst Niall runs for help and Liam attempts to call her husband.

Louis can be heard joking around as he makes a remark at the woman passing wind and Zayn keeps fairly quiet so as not to spoil the surprise.

After the reveal, Harry buries his head in his hands as the rest of the group tease him about his reaction during the prank.

At the end of the footage, Harry can be heard stating how he was thinking about what a fantastic press story it would have made.

Meanwhile, the band scooped three prizes at the Teen Choice Awards 2012 i n Los Angeles last night (22nd July) and delivered a hilarious special acceptance video message as they were unable to attend the star-studded spectacular.

One Direction Prank: Band Gets Tricked By 'Pregnant' Woman On Nickelodeon (VIDEO)

When we heard that Zayn and Louis of One Direction pranked the rest of the boys -- Harry, Liam and Niall -- on Nickelodeon we knew it would be amazing. But when you add three hidden cameras and an actress pretending to be a pregnant producer going into labor, the results are completely priceless.

Watch the boys sing to her baby in an attempt to "calm him down," and see the horror on their faces when she yells, "THE BABY IS COMING RIGHT NOW!" For the short version, fast-forward to 5:15 for Harry's hilarious reaction when he finds out that it was all Zayn and Louis.

As Louis aptly put it, "Harry was the worst!!" But one commenter reacted to Harry's concern differently, writing: "This is just one more reason why Harry Styles should be the father of my children."

In other hilarious One Direction videos, don't miss this recent interview during which the boys play a rousing game of "Romance Rapid Fire."

What did you think of Harry's reaction? Would you have been fooled by the prank?
Also, from London's Metro:
Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson teamed up with Nickelodeon, ahead the band's interview on the show, to fool Harry, Liam Payne and Niall Horan.

When the pregnant female interviewer came along to chat to the boys, she 'faked' labour, leaving the lads in a tither.

The results see Harry in deep breathing exercises, Liam frantically phoning the woman's husband and Niall looking a little dumbstruck.

One Direction Stars Zayn Malik And Louis Tomlinson Play A Hilarious Prank On Their Band Mates [VIDEO]

British-Irish boy-band One Direction's stars Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson were shooting for a commercial on the sets of Nickelodeon and they decided to spice their day up by pulling a prank on their One Direction band-mates Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Liam Payn.

They used the help of an actress that posed to be a pregnant producer from Nickelodeon and during the interview, had a sudden labor pain. It makes for a hilarious video when Styles, Horan and Payn get nervous and have no clue how to handle the situation.

The prank seems to have worked perfectly when Harry Styles gives the extreme reaction and responds with so much intensity. He starts panicking, starts calling the pregnant woman's husband and gets extremely nervous.

One Direction, a British-Irish Boy Band, came to the scene in November 2011 when their album "Up All Night" became the fastest selling debut album in the UK in 2011. This boy-band star Zayn Malik,19, whose certainly has a sense of humor, has also been in the news lately for dating Perry Edwards, who belongs to a girl band called Little Mix.

Harry Styles managed to see the funny side after his bandmates set him up to think he was going to help deliver a baby live on air.

US channel Nickelodeon hired an actress to pretend to be expecting a baby and go into labour before she interviewed One Direction.

Watch Harry panic in the video above.

The Daily Star said Harry's bandmates, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, were in on the trick while Liam Payne and Niall Horan were also victims of the prank.

Harry is said to have shouted: "Why is no-one here? Can somebody help us?" while Liam rang the woman's fake husband and Niall sat there looking shocked.

And Harry is said to have buried his face in his hands after it was revealed the woman's 'labour' was a prank.

Video: One Direction prank on Nickelodeon has fans giggling over fake birth

One Direction got pranked good by Nickelodeon on set during a Saturday taping. Revealing just how the boys were about to get on stage, there was a crisis when a producer pretended she was going to have a baby. The lady was actually an actress who strapped on a fake baby bump and really wasn’t pregnant at all, but she was good at convincing One Direction she was about to give birth.

Moving the chairs around, talking to the woman and even providing support by calling her husband, there was no doubt the guys in the band did their best. However Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson were in on the prank on set, so they helped set the tone for the event. Doing what they could to make the other three panic about the situation, Zayn and Louis played along and seemed to cause even more drama.

Video: One Direction gets pranked
.
Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Harry Styles didn’t know it was fake and it was Harry who really seemed to be worried about the woman. Looking concerned and sincerely doing what he could to help, he was completely engaged in the joke until they told him he was part of a prank.

“I was thinking this would be a great press story,” said Harry Styles after he had been let in on the secret that it was a joke. Of course his band mates made fun of him, in a buddy sort of way, that he was too engaged.

Take a look at Nickelodeon pranking One Direction. With a great joke of a pregnant lady, the guys definitely gave the fans a good laugh when they respond to her needs.

Harry Styles almost loses pants in One Direction, 'Nick' prank

Harry Styles and One Direction band mates Liam Payne and Niall Horan were part of a prank recently. Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Nickelodeon and a fake pregnant actress for-hire, pulled the equivalent of a Justin Bieber-Ashton Kutcher Punk'd routine. It was classic.

The video of the 1D prank begins with Stephanie sporting an authentic-looking baby-bump. The cast instructs everyone to clear out so the "Nick" producer can prep Harry and the boys for an upcoming interview.

Watch: "One Direction Nick prank"
“After the rotund accomplice takes a seat, she says, "I just ate chocolate, and my baby is kicking my bladder right now."
As Harry Styles and Liam Payne look on, she asks if One Direction could sing to her baby; it calms him down.

They snicker, but being the gentleman that they are, all 1D members begin singing a pitiful rendition of the "Rock-a-bye-Baby" lullaby.

Just when the group thinks their golden voices was just what the doctor ordered for the faux-pregnant prankster, she appears to be going into labor.

Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson try to put their best acting-feet forward, while obviously trying to contain the laughter inside. Meanwhile, Niall Horan, who is sitting near an ashen-faced Harry Styles, appears indifferent.
"The baby is coming!" the Nickelodeon actress yells.
Styles tries desperately to calm the woman, who is doing a heck of a job pulling the part off.
"Why is no one here?" Harry calls out to a stoic Niall Horan.
One Direction's Louis Tomlinson, who is obviously having a time fighting off laughter, bolts backstage to pretend he is calling his mom, who is a nurse.

While Harry holds the Nickelodeon producer's hand, Liam calls her husband, who is likely involved in the prank. The entire time, Stephanie yells about the pain, and even manages to pass gas, although that was likely a blooper.

Moments later, she reveals the prank to the One Direction trio -- and the crowd goes wild, while Styles almost loses his pants.

Harry Styles saves face by saying that he was thinking about how much press 1D would get for helping to deliver a baby. What a guy, right? He's always thinking about turning lemons into lemonade.
