It's been a question on everybody's lips - how to perform the perfect sliming. It's the highest honour that Nickelodeon can bestow and stars including Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Sandra Bullock, Halle Berry and Jim Carrey have all been subject to a baptism of the green goo! But now, Nickelodeon can reveal that they have discovered just what it takes to come up with the perfect sliming, just in time for Nickelodeon's 2014 Kids' Choice Awards airing on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland and Nickelodeon HD UK on Sunday 30th March 2014 from 5:00pm!
Working with Dr. Hadley, tutor in the physics department of Warwick University, Nickelodeon UK, the number one commercial kids TV network in the UK, has uncovered the science behind the perfect sliming - one that covers the target with goo and results in an impressive slime spray!
The equation for the perfect sliming is:
tThrow is the time the slime is in the air (seconds)
d is the distance to celeb (metres)
v is the velocity of throw (metres per second)
Ø is the angle of the throw from horizontal (degrees)
g is the acceleration due to gravity (9.8m/s2)
The main two factors for a perfect sliming are the throw and the consistency of the slime itself:
For the throw, the slime should hit the lucky recipient at an angle of 45 degrees (Ø). A slime strike at 45 degrees ensures complete coverage of the target, leaving them thoroughly doused.

How the slime sticks to the honoured celebrity is determined by the slime density and viscosity. The type of slime that sticks on a celebrity has a viscosity of 10,000 cP (Centipose) similar to the consistency of mayonnaise. To get a good spray of slime, a thinner slime is used with a viscosity closer to 1,000 cP.

Past Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards have seen celebs surprised by slime showers, slime slingshots and slime balloons. This year, the awards will feature a 'slime river' on stage as well as a three metre-wide slime waterfall. Over 75,000 litres of slime will be used in the awards show hosted by Hollywood superstar Mark Wahlberg and featuring musical performances from American Authors and Aloe Blacc with special guests including Lea Michele, Chris Evans and Kaley Cuoco.
