FOR RETURN OF ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?

BURBANK, Calif.,--Sept. 13, 2019--Nickelodeon is preparing for the return of The Midnight Society with the all-new Are You Afraid of the Dark? three-part limited series event. Based on the ‘90s kids’ cult classic, and reimagined for a new generation, part one of Are You Afraid of the Dark? will debut on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT), with parts two and three to follow Oct. 18, and Oct. 25, respectively.
Across the three hour-long episodes, Are You Afraid of the Dark? will follow members of an entirely new Midnight Society, who tell a terrifying tale of the Carnival of Doom and its evil ringmaster Mr. Tophat, only to witness the shocking story come frightfully to life. In the just-released trailer, viewers meet the new members of the Midnight Society, get a glimpse at the uncertainty that awaits and prepare for an adventure beyond their wildest nightmares.
The new members of the Midnight Society are: Rachel, played by Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick); Gavin, played by Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.); Akiko, played by Miya Cech (Rim of the World, Always Be My Maybe); Graham, played by Jeremy Taylor (IT: Chapter Two, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween); and Louise, played by Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch). The Carnival of Doom’s ringmaster, Mr. Tophat, is played by Rafael Casal (Blindspotting).
Are You Afraid of the Dark? is produced by ACE Entertainment (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Perfect Date) with ACE founder Matt Kaplan and Spencer Berman serving as executive producers. The series is written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace, Happily) and directed by Dean Israelite (Power Rangers movie, Project Almanac), both of whom are also executive producers. Chris Foss is also an executive producer.

Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, Nickelodeon has debuted the first trailer for its upcoming reboot of Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and it’s looking to scare a whole new generation of kids!
Reconceived as a three-episode limited series, Are You Afraid of the Dark? will premiere the first of its three hour-long episodes on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. ET/PT, with parts two and three set to air on Oct. 18, and Oct. 25, respectively.

In the video, we’re introduced to a new Midnight Society and get a glimpse at the evil that awaits them. In the three-episode miniseries, the show's third reboot since its inception in 1990, a gang of fresh faces, including Sam Ashe Arnold as Gavin, Miya Cech as Akiko, Tamara Smart as Louise, Jeremy Ray Taylor (Young Ben in IT and IT Chapter Two) as Graham and Lyliana Wray as Rachel, the newcomer of the group, head to the woods to see who can scare the daylights out of their friends.
There's just one problem -- Rachel's made-up story, "The Carnival of Doom" and its ringmaster, Mr. Tophat (Rafael Casal), have shown up in their town.
The trailer showcases the group exploring the carnival and discovering other nightmarish oddities, including some terrifying clowns on stilts, a chainsaw-wielding worker and a watery locale where something undead is lurking in the depths.
As the promo wraps up, the group seems to have found a plan (possibly involving a mask) to combat the carnival and its host of spooky workers.
The limited series, which will consist of three hourlong episodes, is written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace) and directed by Dean Israelite (Power Rangers), both of whom will also executive-produce.
While promoting IT Chapter Two, Taylor shared some details with ET concerning what fans can expect from the show.
"It'll definitely be nostalgic for the people that watched it in the '90s," he said at the film's press day. "We just finished filming it. It'll be out in mid-October and it's definitely new for me. I'll be playing a very different character from Ben, so I think you guys will like it."
