The Ohio State University Marching Band Celebrates All Things SpongeBob at Halftime

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? For the halftime show during today's (Saturday, October 26, 2019) football game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Wisconsin Badgers, it was The Ohio State University Marching Band!

SpongeBob: The Great Buckeye Chase pulled music and moments from Nickelodeon's beloved animated series. If nautical nonsense be something you wish, this performance delivered.

The marching band took a deep dive into the hits from the series, including the “SpongeBob SquarePants Theme,” “Campfire Song Song” and “Bikini Bottom Boogie.”

Marching band director Christopher Hoch designed the drill that included a pirate ship sailing across the field, Evil Plankton stealing a buckeye and appearances from SpongeBob and his friend Patrick Star. The show closed out with a formation of SpongeBob, absorbent and yellow and porous is he, returning home to his pineapple under the sea.

Brett Weimken, a city and regional planning major from Napoleon, was the i-dotter this week.

Fans of the marching band have the opportunity to vote on social media for their favorite halftime formation after each new performance. Follow @TBDBITL on Twitter to vote on Monday mornings.

Netflix's 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Live-Action Series Slated to Begin Filming February 2020 in Canada

News on Netflix’s upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series have been few and far between. After the initial announcement in September 2018, it’s been near complete radio silence on the series. The original animated series creators Bryan Konietzko & Mike DiMartino are returning for this upcoming reimaging as showrunners and executive producers.

Now Jessie Flower the voice actor behind fan-favorite Earth Bender Toph was on the Wyrd Crafts Chitchat Podcast this past week, in which she discusses how she got into voice acting as a child and how she landed the Avatar: The Last Airbender gig as Toph back in 2005, plus also gives an update on the production status on the upcoming Netflix series. According to Flower, filming on the series will commence during Spring 2020 in Canada!

When asked if there is anything that she relates to when it comes to Toph; Jessie replied at 25:15 “I suppose we both have green eyes which is nice. I think the biggest thing…..just because with the new live-action [series] coming out through Netflix and they are gonna start filming it this next spring. There's been a resurgence of Avatar with people having rewatching parties.”

They go onto talk about how The Legend of Korra spin-off series was taken off the linear Nickelodeon channel in the U.S. and moved to the network's digital outlets (nick.com and the Nick App) due to its dark themes.

Jessie Flower is then asked about her thoughts on the upcoming series at 32:50 “Yeah I’m excited! I talked with Mike & Bryan in May this past summer. […] I don’t remember how exactly but I tracked them down and just messaged them ‘Hi, I just graduated from college and I’m in New York and I heard about the live-action thing and I wanna chat’. So we had lunch and they talked about their process and how they are primarily involved with this as opposed to the live-action movie that happened. That we don’t talk about [haha]. We are excited about the casting being true to the location and background heritage and all that stuff. Where each nation is based and will be casting from that location. Or at least casting someone who is primarily from that ancestry location. So they are trying to be really PC about the whole thing. They just have a lot more say and hands-on perspective I guess on the direction, filming, and how it’s scripted. And I’m pretty sure it’s going to all be done up in Canada. They are going to start filming I think in February. That’s rough but sometime in early 2020 they will get the ball rolling.”

She goes onto add “I’m going to try to visit set and hopefully [You should try to sneak a cameo in there]. They just offered me to visit set and said it be super cool. There’s obviously going to be press around it so I’m hoping they get the live-action cast do an interview with the original cast. I think it be super cool since all these kids are going to be age-appropriate between 10-15. It’ll be cool to see the dichotomy of the two casts. I hope that happens at some point. Something I want to happen pre-release.”

It was also revealed several days ago that producer Dan Lin has boarded the project as a producer under his Lin Pictures banner. Dan Lin had produced Sherlock Holmes 1 & 2, The Lego Batman Movie, IT Chapters 1 & 2 as well as the Netflix adaption of Death Note. With production crews ramping up on the series expect casting should be announced by the end of the year.

Produced in Partnership with Nickelodeon, Avatar: The Last Airbender will stream exclusively on Netflix.

SpongeBob x Nike Kyrie 5 'Pineapple House' Design Releases

Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants x Nike Kyrie 5 collection is set to expand with the release of a special “Pineapple House” colorway!

The most ambitious release of the series to date, rather than honoring the zany cast of characters, this model of the Nike Kyrie 5 is now borrowing the likeness of the pineapple home that SpongeBob and this pet Gary the Snail lives in.

Translating every fixture and notable element with precision, the uppers print arrives in deep connection to the fruit of choice: It features an upper primtthat mimics the build of the pineapple house with light tans and slightly darker splotched line with zigzags just as it appears in the television series, complete with a leafy Green lace cover (shield) that nods to the house’s crown. The Swooshes symbolic of port windows providing a view of Bikini Bottom. A nautical wheel logo is embroidered on the heels completed with Nickelodeon branding on the lace covers and SpongeBob graphics on the insoles. The metallic silvers of the doors and bent chimney can be found along the midsole with speckles towards the heel calling to the sands that surround.

Even the inside soles are tremendously cool, with Spongebob’s face poking out.

Initially rumored for an Tuesday, October 1, 2019 launch, the "Pineapple House" Kyrie 5 recently popped up on the Foot Locker app with an Oct. 24 release date. We'll keep you updated on the official drop details in the coming weeks.
