Could Nickelodeon Be About to Revive 'The Wonder Pets!'?

Could Nickelodeon be about to revive another beloved preschool series?

According to a recent United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) trademark filing made by Paramount Global, the parent company of the Nickelodeon brand, has applied to register Wonder Pets: In The City with the USPTO under several NICE classes, including NICE class "41 - Education, entertainment, sporting and cultural services", which is for Goods & Services pertaining to "entertainment services in the nature of continuing program series, featuring live action, comedy and drama provided through cable television, broadcast television, internet, video-on-demand, and through other forms of transmission media; providing online information in the field of entertainment concerning television programs".

Paramount has also applied to register the title under NICE classes 28 for "Games; toys; sports equipment" and 25 for "Clothing; footwear; headgear".

At the moment, not much information is available about Wonder Pets: In The City, however, Nickelodeon is in the midst of reviving iconic preschool properties, including last year's Face's Music Party and two upcoming Dora the Explorer projects for Paramount+.

Update (9/12) -Wonder Pets: In The City page has popped up on Apple TV+! Whilst it doesn't give any more details about the project, it does say that it is coming "At a later date".

"This trio of heroic classroom pets live in a New York City kindergarten and use the power of teamwork to rescue animals around the world in musical adventures."

Wonder Pets! chronicles the adventures of Linny the Guinea Pig, Ming-Ming Duckling, and Turtle Tuck, three classroom pets who in every episode are called upon to save an animal in trouble. Together the Wonder Pets travel in their “Flyboat” to a new location where they use teamwork to help the animal that needs saving.

Each episode of Wonder Pets is set to an original score, performed and recorded in-house at Little Airplane by a 10-person live orchestra, and most of the characters’ dialogue is sung in operetta. The series guest stars several celebrities, including Steven Tyler, Jerry Stiller, Brooke Shields, Eartha Kitt, Ziggy Marley, and Idina Menzel, among many others.

The show was produced using photo-puppetry, where real animals and props were photographed and then digitally “cute-ified” and animated. Toys for the series were produced by Fisher Price.

Originally running for 62 episodes and two shorts over three seasons between March 2006 and July 2013, the series was created by Josh Selig and produced by Little Airplane Productions and Nickelodeon Animation Studios. The team at Little Airplane received 6 Emmy Awards in music categories for the series.

Swiper Takes Over Nickelodeon In New 'DORA' Advertising Campaign

Nickelodeon's iconic Latina heroine Dora the Explorer is back in a brand new series, DORA, which will be making its linear TV debut on Nickelodeon and the Nick Jr. channel on Monday, September 16! However, the mischievous fox Swiper has escaped and is currently running around doing what he does best: swiping!

Swiper Swiping 'PAW Patrol'

In Nickelodeon's DORA launch campaign, viewers will see Swiper pop up in all sorts of places. So far, he's been spotted trying to swipe the Nickelodeon Splat BUG/DOG in the bottom right of the screen, watching viewers watching the show, and even swiping an episode of PAW Patrol! Luckily, you know what to do if you spot Swiper on your screen: put our your hand and say, "Swiper, no swiping. Swiper, no Swiping!" You'll even get to hear his "Aw, man!" catchphrase!

Nickelodeon's DORA launch campaign is very reminiscent of the network's Jimmy Neutron Takes Over Nick launch campaign for Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, which saw Jimmy Neutron appear on screen and play around with programming, including temporarily turning SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals into puppets.

So, if you see Swiper on your screens, put our your hand and say, "Swiper, no swiping, Swiper, no Swiping"!

Make sure to catch DORA, premiering Monday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon and the same day at 5:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on the Nick Jr. channel! Find out more about DORA here!

Paramount+ subscribers will also be able to stream season two from Friday, September 13! For a FREE trial, visit ParamountPlus.com.

BURBANK, Calif. – September 11, 2024 – A faraway kingdom holds fantastical, heartfelt, and humorous journeys in Nickelodeon’s all-new CG-animated series Max & the Midknights, making its television debut on Wednesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT). Nickelodeon today released the trailer, key art, and voice cast for the original series. Based on the best-selling children's books by acclaimed author and cartoonist Lincoln Peirce (Big Nate), the show follows an adventurous 10-year-old named Max who embarks on a quest with her newfound friends to save the Kingdom of Byjovia from ominous forces.

The debut episode, "Welcome to Byjovia," introduces Max, a medieval girl who dreams of becoming a knight and battling dragons but must instead roam the countryside as an apprentice troubadour with her Uncle Budrick. After encountering a thief, Max and Uncle Budrick head to the medieval kingdom of Byjovia but soon discover that the town is nothing like Uncle Budrick remembers. New episodes of Max & the Midknights will continue to roll out Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon. The show will begin rolling out internationally on Nickelodeon on October 10.

The voice cast behind the Midknights, a group of misfits each with their own unique talent, include: Blu del Barrio (Star Trek: Discovery) as Max, a brave and determined girl ready to take on any challenge headed her way; Melissa Villaseñor (Saturday Night Live) as Millie, a wacky yet super positive girl who brings the power of magic to the Midknights; Zeno Robinson (Transformers: EarthSpark) as Simon, Millie’s street-savvy and sometimes sarcastic companion; and Caleb Yen (Beyblade X) as Kevyn, the bookish genius with a photographic memory. Together, the group accomplishes nearly everything that they set their mind to achieve.

Alongside the Midknights, Jeremy Rowley (iCarly) lends his voice as Uncle Budrick, Max’s lovably silly parental figure and professional troubadour, Gary Anthony Williams (Central Park) voices Mumblin, a famous retired magician who helps guide the Midknights on their quests, Brian Stepanek (The Loud House) voices King Gastley, the nefarious ruler of Byjovia, willing to do whatever it takes to maintain his throne, and India de Beaufort (It’s Pony) voices Fendra, a dark sorceress working for King Gastley.

Throughout the series, Max leads the rest of the Midknights on challenging quests filled with all-new original songs. After King Gastley steals the throne and forces an unjust rule on the Kingdom of Byjovia, Max must come to the rescue to overthrow the power-hungry foe. With her friends and Uncle Budrick by her side, Max’s courageous spirit won’t back down no matter how difficult the quest gets.

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank, Max & the Midknights is executive produced by Lincoln Peirce (Big Nate) and Jane Startz (Ella Enchanted). Sharon Flynn (All Hail King Julien) and David Skelly (Toy Story 2) serve as co-executive producers and showrunners. Development and production is overseen by Claudia Spinelli, Senior Vice President, TV Series Animation, Nickelodeon, Nathan Schram, Vice President, Development, Nickelodeon Animation, and Stephanie Alpert, Vice President, Production, Nickelodeon Animation.
