Dark Horse to Reprint 'The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series Book Two: Spirits'

Following on from the upcoming reprinting of The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series-Book One: Air in March, Dark Horse Comics has announced plans to reprint another fan-favorite book, The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series Book Two: Spirits, originally published in September 2014!


Set to be released on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series Book Two: Spirits will offer fans the chance to go behind the scenes The Legend of Korra Book Two: Spirits, the second season of The Legend of Korra, the critically acclaimed animated series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko—the smash-hit sequel to their blockbuster show Avatar: The Last Airbender!

This handsome hardcover gives you an in-depth look at the creative team behind the vibrant and richly detailed world of Korra. Discover never-before-seen artwork created during development of Book Two: Spirits. With detailed captions throughout, this is an intimate look inside the creative process that brought the mystical world of bending and a new generation of heroes to life! Featuring creator commentary from DiMartino and Konietzko and a brand-new foreword by Korra voice actor P.J. Byrne, this is an intimate look inside the creative process that brought a new generation of Avatar heroes to life!

In addition to the standard version of The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series Book Two: Spirits Second Edition, and Deluxe version will also be released.

Both editions of The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series Book Two: Spirits 2nd Edition will be published on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. The standard edition (FEB210250) will carry an SRP of $39.99, and the special deluxe-edition (FEB210251) will cost $79.99.

Dark Horse will release 'Suki Alone' Graphic Novel in June 2021

Next summer, Dark Horse Comics will continue its successful line of graphic novels based on Nickelodeon’s beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series with a title focusing on fan-favorite character — and arguably one of the most capable warriors in the entire show — Suki. Suki Alone follows Katara and the Pirate’s Silver and Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy, and complete this trio of graphic novels with the theme of all featuring female main characters.


As the title suggests, Avatar: The Last Airbender — Suki Alone sees the character separated from both her Kyoshi Warrior sisters and the rest of Team Avatar, as she finds herself captured by the Fire Nation and placed in a special prison built in the center of a dormant volcano, known as the Boiling Rock. There, she has to create a new community for herself, if she can manage to convince the other prisoners to trust her.

This places the story between "Book Two: Earth", "Chapter Sixteen: Appa’s Lost Days", in which the Kyoshi warriors fought Azula, and "Book Three: Fire", "Chapter Fourteen: The Boiling Rock Part One", in which Sokka and Zuko discover Suki at the titular Boiling Rock prison.

This makes it like the Katara solo comic, which is also set during the events of the show. This trio of solo standalone comics replaces the previous model of main story trilogies (The Promise, The Search, The Rift, Smoke and Shadow, North and South, and Imbalance). It’s likely that these three female-focused standalone comics will be bundled into a library edition like the trilogies, so it appears that they’re still doing the stories in threes even if they’re not trilogies anymore.

As with earlier titles in the Avatar line, Suki Alone will be written by Faith Erin Hicks (The Nameless City), with input and consultation from Tim Hedrick, who worked on the animated show. Art comes from Peter Wartman (Stonebreaker), with colors from Adele Matera and letters by ComiCraft.

Suki is captured by the Fire Nation and brought to the Boiling Rock, a grim prison in the middle of a dormant volcano. Separated from Team Avatar and her Kyoshi Warrior sisters, she decides to build her own community among other prisoners. But it's going to take more than an encouraging word to build trust among so many frightened people. Suki will need to draw on all her resources to do it, and even that might not be enough.

Enjoy all-new material from Faith Erin Hicks (The Nameless City; The Adventures of Superhero Girl) and Peter Wartman (Stonebreaker), with colors by Adele Matera. Written in consultation with original series writer Tim Hedrick!

Diamond Select to Release Prince Zuko 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Figure

One of the most endearing characters in Nickelodeon's beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender is Prince Zuko. The firebender begins Avatar as one of the main villains before undergoing an excellent redemption arc that allows him to become a true hero.


As part of their Avatar: The Last Airbender Gallery Diorama series, Diamond Select Toys will be releasing a new Zuko figure, which features firebender Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation unleashing a fireball amid curling flames!

Made of high-quality PVC, this approximately 10-inch sculpture features detailed sculpting and paint applications and comes packaged in a full-color window box. Designed by Uriel Caton, sculpted by Salvador Gomes!

The figure, titled "AVATAR LAB GALLERY ZUKO PVC STATUE", will be released on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, and will carry an SRP of $49.99.

Diamond Select will also be releasing a Waterbender Katara figure in April, which is also part of DST's Gallery Diorama series!

Kate Mulgrew Gives ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Progress Update During GalaxyCon

Details about Nickelodeon's upcoming CG-animated Star Trek series, Star Trek: Prodigy have been sparse, but the big reveal from last year is that it will star Kate Mulgrew reprising her Star Trek: Voyager role of Captain Kathryn Janeway. Now Mulgrew has given an update on her work on the show.


On Saturday, January 23 Kate Mulgrew and other members of the Star Trek: Voyager cast were part of a GalaxyCon Live event. After the free Q&A, each participated in some brief one-on-one chats. Fan @jemabean1 posted her Mulgrew chat on Twitter, which ended with the actress giving a brief update on her work for Star Trek: Prodigy:

"jemabean1: We’re so excited about Prodigy

Mulgrew: And now you can enjoy it. I think you will enjoy it. I certainly enjoyed doing it, and I think we’re going into the next season very soon."

While we already knew that Nickelodeon had ordered two seasons of Star Trek: Prodigy, it now also seems pretty certain that Mulgrew and Janeway will be back for the sophomore.

Developed by Emmy® Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters and Ninjago) and overseen for Nickelodeon by Naito, Star Trek: Prodigy follows a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation. The CG-animated series will debut exclusively on Nickelodeon in 2021 for a new generation of fans.

Star Trek: Prodigy is from CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, CBS Studios’ new animation arm; Secret Hideout; and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Katie Krentz, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers alongside co-showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman. Ben Hibon will direct, co-executive produce and serve as the creative lead of the all-new animated series. Aaron Baiers will also serve as co-executive producer with Mac Middleton as a producer. Production of Star Trek: Prodigy is overseen for Nickelodeon by Claudia Spinelli, Senior Vice President, Animation Development and Kelley Gardner, Vice President, Current Series Animation.

Star Trek: Prodigy joins the expanding “Star Trek” franchise for ViacomCBS as the first Star Trek series aimed at younger audiences for Nickelodeon. The Star Trek Universe on CBS All Access currently includes hit original series Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and the development of a Section 31-based series with Michelle Yeoh.

The title for the Trek series targeting a new generation of fans was revealed during virtual Comic-Con@Home last summer, which also confirmed a 2021 release for the first season. Mulgrew’s inclusion on the show was revealed last October during the virtual NYCC.

Mulgrew said, “I have invested every scintilla of my being in Captain Janeway, and I can’t wait to endow her with nuance that I never did before in Star Trek: Prodigy. How thrilling to be able to introduce to these young minds an idea that has elevated the world for decades. To be at the helm again is going to be deeply gratifying in a new way for me.”

Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman said, “Captain Janeway was held to a different standard than her predecessors. She was asked to embody an inhuman level of perfection in order to be accepted as ‘good enough’ by the doubters, but showed them all what it means to be truly outstanding. We can think of no better captain to inspire the next generation of dreamers on Nickelodeon, than she.”

“Kate’s portrayal of Captain Janeway is truly iconic, and has resonated with a global audience for many years,” said Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation. “We can’t wait to see her bring this character to life in a whole new way, while continuing to be an inspiration for both new and loyal fans.”
