Fourth 'SpongeBob' Movie to be Centered Around Sandy Cheeks; To Feature CG-Animation and Live Action

SpongeBob SquarePants showrunner Vincent Waller has revealed new details about Nickelodeon's recently announced fourth SpongeBob SquarePants movie inspired by the network's beloved animated series!

Replying to a fan on Twitter, Waller confirmed that the fourth SpongeBob movie will be the previously reported Sandy Cheeks movie:

He was indeed referring to the Sandy Movie.

In a separate tweet, Waller confirmed that the movie will featured CG-animated and live-action scenes:

And that the show won't go on a production hiatus whilst the movie is in production, unlike the show's first two theatricals, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water:

And confirmed that SpongeBob doesn't have nipples *record scratch*

The news comes as Nickelodeon is in the midst of expanding the SpongeBob universe with spin-offs, with plans to eventually have a spin-off series or movie for each of the main cast.

It's currently unknown whether The Sandy Cheeks Movie is being made for a theatrical release, a linear TV premiere or a streaming service such as Paramount+. Nickelodeon's last SpongeBob Movie, Sponge on the Run was originally slated for theaters, however, ViacomCBS moved the film to Paramount+ due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

Netflix Pushes 'Rise of the TMNT' Movie Release Back to 2022 - Report

The release of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, Netflix's upcoming animated film based on Nickelodeon's Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series has been pushed back until 2022, What's on Netflix is reporting, with sources saying that production on the feature has yet to be completed.

Titled Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, the Nickelodeon pic picks up the turtles when a mysterious stranger arrives from the future with a dire warning. Leo is forced to rise and lead his brothers, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey in a fight to save the world from a terrifying alien species…the Krang! Produced by Nickelodeon, the movie is directed by Ant Ward and Andy Suriano, with Tony Gama-Lobo and Rebecca May serving as writers on the feature.

The movie's voice cast includes series regulars Ben Schwartz, Omar Benson Miller, Brandon Mychal Smith, Josh Brener, Kat Graham and Eric Bauza, and special guest star Haley Joel Osment.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie is based on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nickelodeon's 2D-animated follow up to the network's CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. Premiering in 2018 and running for two seasons, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an action-comedy series follows the band of brothers as they discover new powers and encounter a mystical world they never knew existed beneath the streets of New York City.

Rise of the TMNT stars the voice talent of Omar Miller (Ballers) as Raph, a jagged-shelled snapping turtle; Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) as Leo, a red-eared slider turtle; Josh Brener (Silicon Valley) as Donnie, a soft-shell turtle; Brandon Mychal Smith (You're The Worst) as Mikey, a box turtle; Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries) as April O'Neil, a street savvy native New Yorker; Eric Bauza (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Splinter, father figure and sensei to the Turtles; and WWE Superstar John Cena as the villainous, Baron Draxum.

Talking to ComicBook.com, Curiano touched on the movie when asked a question about whether season 2 and the movie will appeal to new or old fans.

“…with the movie, you kind of have to maybe see what comes down the line. But it’s going to be a bit of both, you know? I think, if you’re watching the show and you’re a fan of the show, you’re going to get a really complete experience with the movie. But it’s also going to be a really exciting stand-alone set piece if you’re not directly familiar with the show.”

It is reported that Henry Jackman has been bought on board to compose for the new movie. Jackman is perhaps best known for his work on Kingsman: The Secret Service and X-Men: First Class but also composed music for another younger skewed movie in the form of Ralph Breaks the Internet.

Nickelodeon and Netflix first announced plans for Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie as well as a animated movie inspired by The Loud House in February 2019, as part of Nickelodeon and ViacomCBS' broader efforts to tap into Nickelodeon's intellectual properties (IP) to continue producing new content for digital and linear platforms (the latter of which, The Loud House Movie, premiered on Netflix in August). Nickelodeon and Netflix expanded on their pact to form a new, multi-year output deal to produce original animated feature films and television series - based both on the Nickelodeon library of characters as well as all-new IP - for kids and families around the world.

Ant Ward is currently serving as an executive producer on Nickelodeon's upcoming Transformers animated series.
