New 'TMNT: Mutant Mayhem' Still Released

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem leaps into theaters on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, after years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O'Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem cast includes:

• Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo
• Hannibal Buress as Genghis Frog
• Rose Byrne as Leatherhead

Nickelodeon Movies and award-winning Point Grey Productions' Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver are producing the all-new iteration. The film marks Nickelodeon Animation's first-ever CG-animated theatrical production, in partnership with Naito and Jason McConnell, who are overseeing production for Nickelodeon. For Point Grey, Lukas Williams is co-producing and Josh Fagen is overseeing. Paramount Pictures will handle worldwide distribution of the film.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is directed by Jeff Rowe (The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Gravity Falls, Disenchantment).

Considered one of the most popular kids' franchises, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic, global property created in 1984 by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman.  It first debuted as a successful comic book series and then became a hit animated TV show, a live-action television series and later spawned numerous blockbuster theatrical releases. The property is a global consumer products powerhouse, winning in every category that has hit shelves to date—with toys, apparel, video games, DVDs and more—and generating billions of dollars at retail. 

Nickelodeon brought the franchise to life again in 2012 with the CG-animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and then reimagined the Heroes in a Half-Shell with the 2D-animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2018.

Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross to Score 'TMNT: Mutant Mayhem'

Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Soul, Watchmen, Mank, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) have been tapped to score the upcoming animated feature Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, it has been revealed.

The news was revealed by professional skateboarding icon Tony Hawk. Hawk recently visited Reznor to shoot a cameo for NIN’s Wish music video.

Talking about the experience on his podcast Hawk vs. Wolf, Hawk then revealed Reznor & Ross were working on the new animated film and said: “When I went there, they were working on the soundtrack to that movie that [co-writer, producer] Seth [Rogen] told us about.”

Once that reveal happened, the film’s co-director Jeff Rowe came forward on Twitter and confirmed it, saying:

“Well, now that my teenage hero @tonyhawk has leaked that my music heroes are doing this I can add that the score is absolutely AMAZING. Exhilarating, terrifying, heartbreaking, and full of sounds I didn’t know existed. I don’t have the vocabulary to describe it. I love it so much.”

The Oscar-winning duo are behind David Fincher’s films since The Social Network, including this year’s upcoming Fincher film The Killer on Netflix. The pair have also steadily worked on multiple scores since 2010, including films like The Book of Eli, Love and Mercy, Blackhat, Triple 9, Patriots Day, Death Note, Bird Box, Soul, Bones and All and Empire of Light along with shows such as Watchmen, Black Mirror and Dr. Death.
