Production on 'Star Trek: Prodigy' Season 2 Nears Completion, Say Executive Producers

Star Trek: Prodigy's executive producers announce that production is in the final mix for season 2's finale as the episodes get ready for Netflix.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's episodes are nearing completion, executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman and Aaron J. Waltke have revealed. A dedicated #SaveStarTrekProdigy social-media fan campaign helped the beloved animated series secure Netflix as its new streaming home after Prodigy was abruptly canceled by Paramount+ earlier this year. Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 is set to premiere Christmas Day on Netflix, with 20 all-new Prodigy season 2 episodes premiering in 2024.

On Twitter/X, Star Trek: Prodigy executive producer Aaron J. Waltke shared a behind-the-scenes production photo, revealing that he got "misty-eyed" mixing Star Trek: Prodigy's season 2 finale. Check out Waltke's post below:


Aaron J. Waltke thoroughly understands and respects the expansive legacy of Star Trek, and he previously teased that Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will touch upon every previous incarnation of the Star Trek franchise. Waltke's words, "The turning of chapters..." and "The everlasting journey..." indicate that Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 isn't designed to end the series, and seeds are being planted for Star Trek: Prodigy season 3 and beyond on Netflix.

Star Trek: Prodigy's creators Kevin and Dan Hageman also posted about finishing the mix for Prodigy's season 2 finale, celebrating the "five incredible years" they have poured into the series. Everything We Know About Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will stream on Netflix after the animated series was canceled by Paramount+, with 20 brand new episodes coming in 2024. Earlier this summer, Kevin and Dan Hageman revealed an extended first look at the second season's premiere episode, where the former crew of the U.S.S. Protostar and now warrant Starfleet officers in training are reunited for an internship under the command of Admiral Janeway. Escorting them to the admiral's new ship is Janeway's dear friend, The Doctor.

How Will Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 Release On Netflix?

One big thing fans are naturally curious about is how Netflix will release episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2. Netflix is known for dropping every episode of a TV series on the same day, although the streamer has also experimented with split releases, such as debuting Stranger Things and The Crown season 6 in two parts. All 20 of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1's episodes will hit Netflix on Christmas Day, and Netflix will likely follow the same strategy for season 2.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 already announced The Doctor (Robert Picardo) from Star Trek: Voyager joins the show, and Admiral Kahryn Janeway's (Kate Mulgrew) new starship is the Lamarr Class USS Voyager-A.

It's also possible Netflix could split Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's release and drop 10 episodes before following up with the latter 10 at a later date. This is what happened on Paramount+; the back 10 episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 arrived a year later. However, this was due to needing to complete production on the latter Prodigy season 1 episodes. As Aaron J. Waltke and the Hagemans confirm, all of Star Trek Prodigy season 2's episodes will be finished when the show starts streaming in 2024. For now, fans can relive the fun and adventure of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 starting Christmas Day on Netflix.

Will There Be A Star Trek: Prodigy Season 3?

At the time of posting, a third season of Star Trek: Prodigy has yet to be announced.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 streams on Netflix December 25, 2023, followed by Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 premiering on Netflix in 2024.

Star Trek: Prodigy is developed by Emmy® Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters and Ninjago), along with Alex Kurtzman and his team at Secret Hideout. Star Trek: Prodigy is from CBS Studios’ Eye Animation Productions, Nickelodeon Animation, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers, alongside co-showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman. Ben Hibon directs, executive produces, and serves as the creative lead of the animated series. Aaron Waltke and Patrick Krebs also currently serve as co-executive producers. 

The Star Trek: Prodigy voice cast includes Kate Mulgrew (Hologram Kathryn Janeway), Brett Gray (Dal), Ella Purnell (Gwyn), Rylee Alazraqui (Rok-Tahk), Angus Imrie (Zero), Jason Mantzoukas (Jankom Pog), Dee Bradley Baker (Murf), John Noble (The Diviner), and Jimmi Simpson (Drednok). Also featured in the series are recurring voice cast members Daveed Diggs (Commander Tysess), Jameela Jamil (Ensign Asencia), Jason Alexander (Doctor Noum), Robert Beltran (Captain Chakotay), and Billy Campbell (Thadiun Okona).

Star Trek: Prodigy received a 2023 TCA Award nomination for “Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming” along with a 2022 Children’s and Family Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Animated Series, and production designer, Alessandro Taini, won the award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation.

The Star Trek series, including Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks are available to stream on Paramount+, with the recently announced Star Trek: Section 31 and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy slated to begin production soon. Additionally, the animated children’s series, Star Trek: Prodigy, is coming soon to Netflix and in Canada on CTV.ca and the CTV App, and is currently available on SkyShowtime in the Nordics, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Central and Eastern Europe.

A mountain of entertainment this festive season | Paramount+

Speaking about her success following The Masked Singer Australia and what it was like to find out she'd be singing in a global Christmas campaign, Charlotte told ITV's This Morning: 'When I found out I'd been asked to sing by Paramount+, I thought 'this can't be happening'. I was so scared but thought I'll just do it, it's a Christmas jingle, it's only fun - and that's exactly what it was. I love a good surprise and I think that's what it will be to everyone at home.'


Rolling out across December, the global streamer’s extensive UK nationwide campaign shines a spotlight on the ‘Mountain of Entertainment’ that audiences can enjoy this Christmas. From blockbuster movies Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Babylon, and Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves to original series and iconic shows including Frasier, The Serial Killer’s Wife, The Curse, Yellowstone, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, South Park, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and The Castaways, as well as family treats Rubble & Crew, Baby Shark’s Big Movie and Monster High 2.

Conceived and produced by Paramount UK’s in-house marketing and creative teams, the new musical campaign aims to get the nation singing along to its memorable melody.

30 second spots will air across TV, BVOD, Cinema and YouTube with a 60 second version playing across primetime TV in December, including its launch in Gogglebox. The campaign will include innovative takeovers on Social platforms and Digital Display, and will also run across Audio, OOH and Radio.

Talent partnerships with TikTok and Spotify will further help the jingle to become an earworm.

Paramount+ has partnered with TikTok’s inaugural Advent Calendar and joined forces with TikToK legend and singer-songwriter Sam Ryder who becomes the platform’s very own Santa and Paramount+ Choir Master this month. Behind door number 2, Sam performs his own version of the #ParamountPlusJingle and is challenging creators to whip up their own renditions to win the chance to duet with him.

On Spotify, podcast hosts including Alan Carr (Life’s a Beach), Tom Allen and Suzi Ruffell (Like Minded Friends) and Joe Wilkinson and David Earl (Chatabix) will sing their own versions and discuss their favourite Paramount+ shows, whilst custom remixes of the jingle will be contextually targeted around Rock, RnB and Country playlists.

Teaming up with Global radio, Capital FM listeners will be challenged to name the track that inspired the jingle to win tickets to the station’s annual Jingle Bell Ball and meet Charlotte.

To ensure passers-by enjoy the full sensory experience, Digital Out of Home sites will be audio synced with radio whilst Orbit screens in nationwide shopping centres will play with the sound on.

Bringing even more joy to the fun and festive campaign, musical pedicab rickshaws in London will crank up the jingle whilst pop-up choirs are set to entertain train stations and shopping precincts in the capital, Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester.

Charlotte also revealed that the hit show, Geordie Shore where she initially found fame will return to our screens on Paramount+ in January!

'The show is completely different now' says Charlotte. It's got a lot of people in it because we've got partners and family in it. I think life has changed for all of us!'

Over a decade on since Charlotte first joined the show, she spoke about the show's success, saying: 'Australia, Brazil, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand... it's everywhere, it's huge, it's so big. I feel so lucky that I've had the opportunity to fly all over the world and work in nearly every country.'

Geordie Shore returns in January on Paramount+ UK.

Oh Baby Kart (OBK), a cross-platform multiplayer kart racing game, refreshes the classic genre with intricate skill-based gameplay and compelling interwoven narratives through its many maps and modes. Unlike previous kart racers, Oh Baby Kart has been carefully constructed within a live service model to benefit its players. A free-to-play game, Oh Baby Kart will enter closed beta for Windows and macOS beginning December 14, with mobile and console versions to follow in 2024.


In partnership with Paramount Global and Nickelodeon, Oh Baby Kart will feature iconic characters from the SpongeBob SquarePants universe as playable racers. In reimagining what a kart racer can be, Oh Baby Kart offers a live service gameplay experience that challenges the status quo:

  • Expansive Playable Characters & Karts: 20+ unlockable characters and 26 courses at the start of closed beta, including four limited time SpongeBob SquarePants racers. With hundreds of kart customization options, players can find the cosmetic style that fits them best.
  • New, In-Depth Race Mechanics: Oh Baby Kart introduces a revolutionary racer talent system, allowing for mid-race stat and ability buffs to improve your character's Grand Prix build. Each racer leverages a unique passive trait and can select from multiple ultimate abilities (charged by kart drifting) to achieve victory their way.
  • Live Service Model: Fresh content, new characters and tracks will be released on a steady seasonal cadence. These updates will include constant balance adjustments to racer stats, ensuring that Oh Baby Kart stays competitively dynamic and evolves with the growing player base.
  • Friends Race Together: A smooth, cross-platform matchmaking and in-game social chat system that takes a connected approach to playing with your friends.
  • New and Familiar Modes, with a Twist: Oh Baby Kart isn't your average racing game — in addition to the usual Grand Prix and Duo Racing formats, strap in for 100+ challenges that go beyond simple time trials. Think boss battles, in-race quests and even more experimental modes to come!
