The Moon, Narnia And Bikini Bottom: Children Choose Their Dream Holiday Destinations

From the travel section of Mail Online, the official website of the daily British newspaper Daily Mail:
The Moon, Narnia and Bikini Bottom: Children choose their dream holiday destinations

When it comes to top holiday destinations, it seems children have sky-high hopes, with the Moon topping their list of places they would most like to visit.

When asked where they really wanted to travel to, the majority of children named the moon as their ideal holiday, closely followed by the more manageable Disney World and the rather more tricky fantasy world of Narnia.

The findings were based on a survey of British children aged between three and eight by holiday website sunshine.co.uk and saw both real and imaginary destinations make it into their top 10 dream holidays.

Fly me to the moon: Children would most like to holiday on the moon

Close behind the CS Lewis world of Narnia came JK Rowling's Hogsmeade, the fictional town in the Harry Potter books.

Luckily for wannabe wizards, both Hogsmeade and Harry's school Hogwarts - which came in seventh place in the list - have been brought to life at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, in Florida.

Thoughts also turned to Father Christmas and his reindeer, with Lapland making it into fifth place children would most like to visit - a holiday that parents can deliver on.

But Hundred Acre Wood, home to AA Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore, could me more difficult to visit.

As could the eighth most popular dream holiday destination - Pride Rock, the fictional kingdom Mustafa and Simba ruled in The Lion King.

Bikini Bottom: Children are also inspired by TV series such as Spongebob Squarepants

And while the ninth hotspot is Australia - perhaps due to its starring role in Finding Nemo, or just due to its famed beaches and adventure holidays - the tenth destination is a watery one.

Bikini Bottom, the fictional underwater world of Nickelodeon's Spongebob Squarepants, just creeps into the top 10 as an ideal holiday destination.

Sunshine.co.uk co-founder Chris Brown said: 'Having four kids of my own, I know that mine would pick Disney over any destination, but it's incredibly cute to see that so many selected fictional destinations and the Moon.'

The top 10 places for holidays were:

1. The Moon
2. Disney World
3. Narnia
4. Hogsmeade
5. Lapland
6. Hundred Acre Wood
7. Hogwarts
8. Pride Rock
9. Australia
10. Bikini Bottom
