Despite various announced plans to reopen or reuse the site, as of June 2013 it is still an abandoned amusement park in a semi-ruined state. On August 18, 2009, it was announced that the land would be redeveloped into a Nickelodeon-branded theme/water park. Unfortunately, however, plans for Nickelodeon to turn the area into a Nick branded theme park fell through after bonds failed to come through. SpongeBob SquarePants The Ride used a SimEx-Iwerks Motion Simulator and was based in Cajun Country themed area of the theme park.
