Producer Casts Doubt Over Third "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Movie

Andrew Form, producer of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, doubts there will be a third movie in the franchise.

Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures' last TMNT film underperformed at the global box office when the movie was released in theatres earlier this summer, making half the worldwide gross of 2014's reboot of the franchise, and as such, Form believes this incarnation of the Turtles on the big screen has run its course.

"I don't think there's [Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3], but I wouldn't say there's never going to be another Turtles movie," Form told Collider.

"We're still so proud of the movie [Out of the Shadows]; it just didn't find an audience. We really don't know why."

Form also noted his surprise that the addition of fan-favourite characters like Bebop and Rocksteady didn't give the sequel a boost at the box office.

"One thing we did learn is you can't just add characters to a movie and expect that to be what's fresh," added Form.

"It's a sequel. You have to give the audience something that's really new and fresh. Maybe just adding characters from the canon, that wasn't enough."

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows sees Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo return to battle bigger, badder villains alongside April O'Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell). After super villain Shredder (Brian Tee) escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar "Sheamus"), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is available to own now on Blu-ray, DVD and digitally.
