Starcom India Bags Media Mandate For Nickelodeon India

Starcom India from the Publicis Groupe umbrella has won the media planning and buying mandate for Nickelodeon India, India’s leading kid’s television franchise Nickelodeon, a part of Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd, the channel has confirmed.


The account, encompasses the franchise’s suite of children's channels - Nick, Sonic, Nick Junior & Nick HD+ - was won after a tightly contested multi-agency pitch which was initiated around four months ago.

Commenting on the win, Mallikarjun Das, group CEO, Starcom India, said, “The Indian television broadcast segment is set for exponential growth and entertainment tailored for kids and young adults, is going to be a big beneficiary of that. Nickelodeon is an established, highly reputed entertainment brand and having them on our roster is a matter of great prestige for us. The broadcast firm is innovating its strategy across platforms, so that kids and teenagers get the perfect multi-platform experience. It is important to understand that Nickelodeon’s content is increasingly being watched not just by its core target audience, but also adults and entire families. We will devise for Nickelodeon a media strategy and plan, designed to help them achieve maximum exposure and eyeballs. This win further adds tempo to a great year where we have won significant businesses and consolidated operations.”

Vizieum is the incumbent agency for the account.

Nickelodeon, India’s leading kids’ entertainment brand and part of the Viacom18 Media Pvt. Ltd, is available in over 100 million households in the country. The Nickelodeon cluster in India boasts of a bouquet of differentiated channels that cater to kids from tots to teens – Nick HD+, Sonic and Nickelodeon (with 2 programming blocks i.e. Nick Jr./ Teen Nick). Nick Jr., which is "the smart place to play” believes that ‘education’ and ‘entertainment’ go hand-in-hand and is aimed at young parents and pre-schoolers. Internationally acclaimed shows like Dora the Explorer, Bubble Guppies, Wonder Pets, Team Umizoomi and Go, Diego, Go! foster motor, memory, maths and language development in a child. The Nickelodeon channel also caters to teenagers in the latter half of the day with the Teen Nick block which showcases international sitcoms such as iCarly, Victorious and Drake & Josh. The Nickelodeon cluster has an ecosystem that extends beyond television into Consumer Products, on-ground and digital platforms. Nickelodeon India is a 24-hour pay channel broadcast in Hindi, with the option of English, Tamil and Telugu audio feeds on DTH.

Nickelodeon has driven growth for the children's entertainment genre in India through various initiatives. The channel has been scaling its local content offering with shows such as Motu Patlu, Shiva and with the return of Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards.
