MaeMae Renfrow Chats 'Hunter Street' Season 2

If you love mysteries, adventure and complex family dynamics, you need to be watching Nickelodeon’s Hunter Street, the show about five foster children entangled in an epic family mystery that leads them on a quest for answers. Justine Magazine recently caught up with Hunter Street star MaeMae Renfrow, who plays the role of fiercely protective sibling Tess, to get some scoop on the show. She gave Justine Magazine the latest Hunter Street info and shared some personal details that will make you love her even more. Get to know MaeMae Renfrow in Justine Magazine's super interview below!

Justine Magazine: What drew you to your character, Tess, in Hunter Street?

MaeMae Renfrow: “What drew me to Tess Hunter was how fearless, independent, strong and witty she is—and at the same time very loving and caring.”

JM: What can we expect from Tess in Season 2?
MR: “In Season 2 she’s opened up a lot more; she’s a lot more understanding and motherly. I had a lot of fun playing her this season.”

JM: Tess is an avid reader. What books are on your TBR pile? Or what books have impacted you the most?
MR: “Well, at the moment I’m currently reading Turtles All The Way Down by John Green… which is amazing! The books that I’ve always loved and have impacted me would have to be A-to-Z mysteries, Nancy Drew and The Spider and the Fly—so I guess you can say I’ve always loved mysteries!”

JM: And we also love a good mystery! What mystery shows have been your favorite?
MR: “I would have to say Scooby Doo. That would have to be my all-time favorite.”

JM: We know that you love to travel. What has been your favorite location for Hunter Street filming so far?
MR: “As you probably already know Hunter Street is filmed in Amsterdam, which is incredible. So if I had to pick my favorite place in Amsterdam that we’ve filmed it would probably have to be when we were in the boat going through the canals in the city. But there are so many new amazing filming locations in Season 2, I can’t wait for everyone to see!”

JM: The Hunter family is very close knit on Hunter Street. What advice do you have for teens who struggle with tough family dynamics at home?
MR: “I would say make sure you tell someone and breathe . . . everything will be ok. Stay strong!”

JM: What do you miss most about living in North Carolina?
MR: “Well, of course my family and the good Southern food.”

JM: What do you love most about living in sunny California?
MR: “The weather and taco places! I could never get sick of tacos!”

JM: What is on your radar for the rest of 2018?
MR: “I’m still figuring out what’s coming up in 2018 but hopefully there will be a season three of Hunter Street!”

JM: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
MR: “Continuing to pursue my acting career, but also making sure I have enough time to enjoy life with pizza rolls and my five corgis!”

For more on season two, get the deets from MaeMae herself below!

Girls' Life: How has Tess changed since season one?
MaeMae Renfrow: I would say Tess has evolved to be more open, a lot more understanding and motherly like.

GL: Whats' your favorite thing about playing her?
MR: My favorite thing about playing Tess Hunter would be how witty, brave, smart and kind she is. I also get to work with the most amazing cast, aka my family!

GL: Best moment from the first season of Hunter Street?
MR: When we filmed in the tunnels, because they were actual tunnels underground in Amsterdam—which was kind of creepy but it looked amazing cool!

GL: I hear there are some exciting new additions to the fam this season! Any hints or details you can drop about them?
MR: I can’t give too much away, but we have amazing new characters this season who fans will love! First, there is Jake who is artsy, smart, fun and always up for adventures, he fits right in with us. Then there is Evie, who is super sweet and adorable, but a girl of few words.

GL: The show is super mysterious. Are you into mystery books or films outside of the show? If so, which ones?
MR: Well my favorite mystery books would be A-to-Z Mysteries—Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and so many more, but those would have to be my top. For films/shows, Scooby Doo is my fave without a doubt.

GL: If you could have one famous fictional detective drop into the show to help you crack a case, who would it be?
MR: The Mystery Gang, of course!

You can catch MaeMae in the season premiere of Hunter Street *tonight* on Nickelodeon at 7 p.m. EST.
