John Cena Teases What to Expect from at Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2018

Saturday is going to be a huge day for kids across the globe!

Nickelodeon 2018 Kids' Choice Awards is taking place the same day as the March for Our Lives event, during which children and families will take the streets in Washington, D.C., and the entire nation in favor of gun control laws.

On Friday, Extra spoke to WWE superstar John Cena, who is returning as host Nickelodeon's annual slimefest for the second year in a row, in-between rehearsals for the big show. When asked if the show will address the March, John shared, “This show is about kids and this show is about recognizing and celebrating kids and we want kids to have fun, but there is no way that we aren't going to recognize the fact that kids across this country are getting together and doing what they always do at Nickelodeon — let their voice be heard.”

John wasn’t surprised by the power of today’s kids. He emphasized, “I think it's extra-special that across the nation and hopefully extending outside the nation’s borders, that young people's voices will be heard. I think sometimes chaos breeds wonderful things and I think in this case, young people are realizing that they have a voice, too.”

On Wednesday, March 14, Viacom networks in the US, including Nickelodeon, went off-air for 17 minutes in support of a national student walkout over gun violence and in honor of the 17 students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, who tragically murdered by a gunman with a semiautomatic rifle.

In a separate interview with Entertainment Today, Cena said that of all the celebs expected to be in attendance at Saturday's awards show, it's his finance, Nikki Bella who he's most excited to see.

"This is going to sound so corny, but I know my bride is going to be here," he gushed. "We have been going separate ways for so long... I'll get to walk the carpet with her tomorrow, we'll be able to enjoy the show together, and we'll be able to have a date afterwards."

Cena also said hosting the Kids' Choice Awards has nothing to do with getting him in the mood to become a father -- "that has to do with the relationship between me and Nicole," he revealed -- but he's definitely excited to put on a great show for the kids.

"It's because of those kids in the audience that those stars are able to have their moment on the podium," he said. "The live votes, the slime, the audience interaction, the amount of production that Nickelodeon puts into their sets, it's done for the people in these seats, and it's done for the people at home."

"I am [a big kid]," he continued. "I love the environment, because young people's attitudes are so honest."

"As we grow older, we develop who we are," Cena said. "This is a very important stage of development for these young people, and allowing them to have a voice, and I think that's what Nickelodeon does best."

John Cena on Why He Looks Up to Dwayne Johnson: ‘He’s an Anomaly’

“He’s done unbelievable things in the world of sports and entertainment,” WWE Superstar says ahead of his reunion with The Rock at Nickelodeon “Kids’ Choice Awards”

WWE Superstars-turned-Hollywood heavyweights Dwayne Johnson and John Cena are often compared to each, but SmackDown favorite Cena says they’re not even in the same class.

“The Rock is in a conversation by himself. He is an anomaly, he’s done unbelievable things in the world of sports and entertainment,” Cena told TheWrap on Friday as he prepared to host the Nickelodeon “Kids’ Choice Awards” for the second consecutive year.

“There is only one man even involved in that conversation and it is him, he sets the bar rather high.”

Johnson and Cena will be reunited at Saturday’s “KCA” at the Forum in Los Angeles, where the “Rampage” action star may or may not get slimed. (Spoiler alert: he definitely will get slimed.)

The pair have followed remarkably similar career paths — from college football players to professional wrestling and the WWE, spring-boarding from the ring into the box office with huge hits including “The Scorpion King,” the “Fast & Furious” series, “Jumanji,” “Trainwreck,” “Ferdinand” and “Daddy’s Home” collectively.

They’re both also famed for their philanthropic work, with Johnson having launched the Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation in 2006 and Cena holding the record for granting the most wishes in Make-A-Wish history.

“It’s guys like that who not only work hard but use their platform. He is unbelievably gifted at using social media to spread the fact that hard work is how you achieve success,” Cena marveled over his counterpart. “Hard work is also how you achieve significance. He inspires a lot of people, I don’t think he understands the depth of how much. He is someone I look up to — so if I look up to him, there’s no way we can be in the same conversation,” he said modestly.

The “Blockers” actor’s personal connection with Johnson, 45, goes back to even before 40-year-old Cena made his name in WWE.

“I sat down with him and we shared a special moment long before I stepped into a ring, he gave me his time and he was very kind and candid in his conversation. It is something I will never forget,” Cena said.
