Nickelodeon Names Kari Kim as New VP of Animation Development

Nickelodeon has named Kari Kim as its new Vice President (VP) of animation development.

In this newly created role, Kim, a digital and television industry veteran, will be based out of Nickelodeon’s Burbank, California headquarters and report to Executive Vice President (EVP) of animation production and development, Ramsey Naito. She will be responsible for all aspects of original series development all the way from concept through to the pilot stage, including all creative and production.

Prior to taking on this new position, Kim was a development executive at King Features Syndicate where she created and produced content for its intellectual properties (IP) Cuphead, Popeye and Flash Gordon as well as co-creating the game Trivia Treat for Amazon Echo. She has also served as a development executive at pocket.watch, developing and pitching new animated content for its slate.

This move is part of Nick’s efforts to grow its animation content pipeline, notes Naito in the announcement.

It is the latest executive move for the Viacom network, which has been revamping its programming team under new president Brian Robbins. In the months since taking the helm of the kids network, Robbins has tapped Disney alum Paul DeBenedittis to oversee programming strategy and Ramsey Naito and Shauna Phelan to lead animation and scripted live action, respectively. Most recently, Paula Kaplan, the EVP of Talent and Development at Viacom Digital Studios (VDS) was named Executive Vice President of Talent and Development for Viacom Digital Studios and EVP of Talent for Nickelodeon, and Rob Bagshaw was named as Executive Vice President (EVP) of Unscripted Content.
