James Patterson Entertainment and Imagine Entertainment Reportedly Co-Producing 'I Funny' Series for Nickelodeon

James Patterson Entertainment and Imagine Entertainment are reportedly currently in production with I Funny, a brand-new series about a middle school boy who dreams of becoming a standup comedian, inspired by James Patterson’s heartwarming #1 New York Times bestselling franchise of the same name, for Nickelodeon!

The news follows Imagine Entertainment setting a broad deal with author James Patterson to develop film, TV and digital projects based on his children’s books. The deal calls for Imagine’s newly launched Imagine Kids and Family division to develop five titles from Patterson’s children’s book imprint with Little, Brown & Co., dubbed Jimmy Patterson Books. Other projects in the development pipeline include Patterson’s House of Robots series, about a boy and his robot brother; and adventure series Treasure Hunters. There’s also a young adult series about a warrior princess based on the upcoming novel Sophia, Princess Among Beasts.

In James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein’s heartwarming #1 New York Times bestseller, middle schooler Jamie Grimm faces bullying and self-doubt as he chases his dream to become the world’s greatest comedian.

Jamie Grimm is a middle schooler on a mission: he wants to become the world’s greatest standup comedian–even if he doesn’t have a lot to laugh about these days. He’s new in town and stuck living with his aunt, uncle, and their evil son Stevie, a bully who doesn’t let Jamie’s wheelchair stop him from messing with Jamie as much as possible. But Jamie doesn’t let his situation get him down. When his Uncle Frankie mentions a contest called The Planet’s Funniest Kid Comic, Jamie knows he has to enter. But are the judges only rewarding him out of pity because of his wheelchair, like Stevie suggests? Will Jamie ever share the secret of his troubled past instead of hiding behind his comedy act?

Following the bestselling success of the hilarious Middle School, The Worst Years of My Life (which was adapted into a blockbuster movie in 2016), James Patterson continues to dish out the funnies in another highly-illustrated, heartfelt middle school story. (Includes more than 175 black-and-white illustrations by illustrator Laura Park.)

I Funny: A Middle School Story, simply known as I Funny, is a realistic fiction novel by James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein. It was published by Little, Brown and Company in 2012. It is followed by I Even Funnier in 2013, I Totally Funniest in 2015, I Funny TV in 2016, I Funny: School of Laughs in 2017 and The Nerdiest, Wimpiest, Dorkiest I Funny Ever in May 2018.

Imagine Kids+Family and Nickelodeon are also currently developing a brand-new original live-action series.
