From Metro:

Gary Barlow joins forces with Paddington Bear for mega British new series

Paddington Bear and Gary Barlow fans – you’re in luck. The pair have joined forces for a new series and it’s just adorable. The Take That star has written and performed an adorable song for the opening credits, with the sequence taking us and everyone’s favourite bear around London. And it’s an absolute bop. The sweet bear is seen snacking on marmalade sandwiches as he waits for a train in the clip, as well as dancing through the parks of London, and floating away past Big Ben for the new Nick Jr series, The Adventures of Paddington Bear.

Basically, he’s loving life in the big city and we’re very here for it.

Ben Whishaw is reprising his role as the adorable bear, with Peppa Pig’s Morwenna Banks, Spy’s Darren Boyd, Dr Who’s Noel Clarke, Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan, and The League Of Gentlemen’s Reece Shearsmith also featuring in the series. Bobby Beynon and Sheena Bhattessa are also joining the cast, alongside Monica Lopera, Sabrina Newton-Fisher, David Schofield, Liz Sutherland-Lim and Jeremiah Waysome. Fans have got a little while to wait before the series airs, with it being released in March 2020, but it’s sure to be worth it.

It’s a good thing fans are getting their Paddington fix as a third animated movie could be a while away yet. After uncertainty from Ben, it was revealed that a third installment is in the works after the success of the first two – but director Paul King won’t be on board.

‘Paul is involved in it, I wanted him to be involved in it because I think he’s such a significant voice, but I don’t think he’ll direct it,’ producer David Heyman told Collider. ‘He worked on the idea… he comes up with the idea with Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton and then they develop it and come back for more, back and forth, and then it’ll get written and Paul will come in and stir it up a little bit. But he’s an incredible collaborator, Paul. Very positive, very supportive.’

Hey, we’re never going to say no to more Paddington. The Adventures of Paddington Bear will be released in March 2020 on Nick Jr.

Paddington property ready for bumper 2020

New TV series and dedicated products, plus appearance in special trail among plans for classic brand.

The Copyrights Group has outlined a plethora of plans for the Paddington brand in 2020.

New developments for the popular franchise begin with the launch of The Adventures of Paddington TV series in the UK this spring. Starring the voice talent of Ben Whishaw as Paddington and with a theme tune by Take That’s Gary Barlow, the preschool series is aiming to introduce the character to a new audience.

Following the launch of the TV series, a range of dedicated products will launch including new books from HarperCollins in the spring.

This will be followed in the autumn by new products from Rainbow Designs (plush and toys), Ravensburger (puzzles) and Trends UK (electronic learning).

Additional tie-in products are due from spring 2021.

Meanwhile, from February, fans in London will be able to sit on one of the benches in Leicester Square and have lunch beside Paddington as part of Scenes in the Square. This is a dynamic trail of eight interactive bronze statues inspired by Britain’s love of film and a century of cinema from the 1920s to 2020s.

The ongoing partnership with Butlin’s will continue with Paddington at the Seaside, with the live stage show performed in all three UK resorts.

In addition, a third Paddington film is currently in development.

Downton Abbey's Mrs Hughes plays housekeeper again in the world of Paddington bear

EXCLUSIVE: Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan plays Mrs Bird in a new animated series about the adventures of Paddington bear. The seven part series also stars Ben Whishaw as Paddington.

Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan is keeping house once more – but for a bear rather than aristocrats.

The star has swapped playing stern Mrs Hughes in the magnificent country house for being Mrs Bird in the chaotic and charming world of Paddington.

Following the huge success of the two recent Paddington films there is a new animated series about the beloved bear’s adventures.

Bond star Ben Whishaw is the voice of Paddington and Morwenna Banks brings Mrs Brown to life in the seven-parter starting tomorrow.

Phyllis, 64, said: “It’s a wonderful thing to be involved with. It’s close to all our hearts.”

Most would agree with her that the Paddington books, written by Michael Bond from 1958 to 2017, the year he died, are national treasures. Phyllis said: “The movies have reintroduced the story to a whole new generation of children and adults.”

All the actors voiced their parts separately. At one point it sounds like Phyllis is performing with Gary Barlow, even though she never met the Take That star, who sings the series’ theme tune.

Phyllis, who won a Bafta for the 1983 war drama Another Time, Another Place, said: “We all sing together in the chorus so I sound like I’m singing with him. I think it’s great and hope it becomes a No1 hit.

“Mrs Bird is a larger than life character – everything is at ten rather than a five or six. Our voice director is brilliant – always suggesting new things or telling me to give it a bit more oomf!”

Phyllis, known for playing Lady Jane in TV’s Lovejoy, said she appreciates her work more as she gets older: “Life goes faster the older you get. Grab the moment.”

She based Mrs Hughes in Downton, on figures from her own childhood in Renfrewshire. Phyllis recalled: “I was brought up knowing women like Mrs Hughes – grandparents, neighbours, that sort of woman. I could bring real life experience to the part.

“Those women might seem fearsome or hard bitten in some ways but underneath it all they had a good heart and were decent and could be very funny.”

Downton is such a hit in the US that the cast are treated like royalty there.

Phyllis said: “The American fans are very enthusiastic. If they like you, they will let you know in no uncertain terms.”

Phyllis still makes an effort to get together with her Downton cast mates. She said: “Some of us see each other whenever we can.”

And if rumours of a sequel to last year’s hit Downton Abbey film prove to be true they may spend even more time together.

Watch The Adventures of Paddington start tomorrow at 4.30pm on Nick Jr.
