The Official 'SpongeBob SquarePants' Twitter Page Pays Tribute to Stephen Hillenburg on What Would Have Been the Late Creator's 59th Birthday

Nickelodeon's official SpongeBob SquarePants Twitter account today, Friday, August 21, paid tribute to Stephen Hillenburg on what would of been his 59th birthday. To commemorate the show's late creator, who passed away from ALS complications in November 2018, @SpongeBob tweeted a picture featuring SpongeBob and Bubble Buddy hugging along with the SpongeBob quote "With imagination, I can be anything I want." The official SpongeBob Twitter page captioned the image with a touching tribute, saying "thank you Stephen Hillenburg for bringing so much imagination to this world 💛".

The upcoming SpongeBob movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, also features a bittersweet tribute to Stephen Hillenburg.
