Nickelodeon and Hispanic Heritage Foundation launch initiative to engage Latinx youth to explore tech pathways including space exploration by leveraging ‘The Astronauts’ tv series

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nickelodeon and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation today announced a creative partnership to inspire, introduce, and engage Latinx youth to explore tech and STEM fields as career pathways including space exploration by leveraging the new Nickelodeon TV series The Astronauts while HHF leverages CSL (Code as a Second Language) program across the country.

The new initiative called “Lanza” will launch on the week of November 9th as The Astronauts premieres on Nickelodeon and will be integrated into five CSL coding camps featuring an innovative curriculum along with a group of experts from the space science industry who will share their experiences. H Code, the largest Latinx digital media company in the U.S., will amplify the effort to millions of Latinx families digitally during Computer Science Week December 7-13.

“We are thrilled to partner with Nickelodeon to create excitement around the tech field through this creative engagement that leverages the new series “The Astronauts” and the CSL program,” said Antonio Tijerino, President and CEO of HHF. “We have to be creative with how we introduce and encourage underrepresented youths to enter tech and STEM pathways and what better way to do that than through space exploration with Nickelodeon as the experts in youth engagement.”

“H Code believes in the power and potential of the Latinx community and is dedicated to empowering Hispanics across everything we do,” adds Parker Morse, CEO & Founder of H Code. “As a leader in Hispanic digital advertising and tech, we are honored to partner with Nickelodeon and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and inspire Latinx youth to explore these vital fields.”

Thousands of students attending CSL activations will be entertained and inspired by getting an exclusive preview of the new series The Astronauts on Nickelodeon, where the intelligence and friendship of five young characters who accidentally rocket themselves into space are the only tools they have to survive. About “The Astronauts”

When 5 kids sneak onboard to check out an empty spacecraft, they quickly find themselves trapped and launched into space! Now, with Mission Control and the kids’ parents powerless to turn the ODYSSEY II around, the kids must work together in order to deal with the malfunctioning onboard AI, Matilda, and return home. From growing their own food to navigating the spacecraft’s course, these young astronauts have only themselves to rely on if they want to survive. The Astronauts premieres November 13th at 7/6c on Nickelodeon.
