Nickelodeon's 'Big Nate' Launch Plans May Have Been Revealed

A listing for the upcoming Big Nate book Big Nate: Aloha! has revealed that Nickelodeon may be planning to launch the network's upcoming CG-animated series Big Nate on the linear Nick TV channel and on the Paramount+ streaming service!

Based on the best-selling children’s books, written and drawn by acclaimed author and cartoonist Lincoln Peirce, this new TV series will feature brand-new original storylines centered on Nate, a precocious 11-year-old boy, and his mischievous shenanigans that usually result in disaster, detention or both. Big Nate is slated to premiere during September 2021 on Nickelodeon.

According to the synopsis for Big Nate: Aloha! on the Barnes & Noble websiteBig Nate is a "[s]oon to be an animated series with Paramount+ and Nickelodeon!", which suggests that the series will debut on both platforms.

At the moment, it's unclear on whether the series will bow on both platforms at the same time, or on one platform before the other. Nickelodeon and ViacomCBS are increasingly moving towards a launch strategy where a new series debuts on Paramount Plus prior to premiering on linear TV. Nickelodeon's Rugrats revival and SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off Kamp Koral launched on the streaming service earlier this year, with plans for both shows to debut on Nickelodeon at a later date, and Nickelodeon's upcoming CG-animated Star Trek: Prodigy will bow on Paramount+ later this year ahead of its TV debut.
