'That Girl Lay Lay': Magic Gets Real in This First Look at Nickelodeon's New Comedy

Sadie gets more than she wished for when Lay Lay comes to life. Check out the first trailer for That Girl Lay Lay, Nickelodeon's brand new comedy series set to premiere this September, below, courtesy of Entertainment Tonight!

After struggling to make friends and stand out at school, Sadie (Gabrielle Nevaeh Green, All That, Nickelodeon's UnfilteredNFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai) wishes upon a star that Lay Lay (Alaya High), a motivational avatar from a phone app, was real and could help her make her mark. To Sadie's surprise, her wish comes true.

"Did a person just come out of my phone?" Sadie exclaims. "Not just a person. It's your girl, Lay Lay," her new friend replies.

Still trying to figure out how their new, magical friendship will work, Sadie advises, "You need to keep a low profile." Lay Lay quips back, "I am Lay Lay, not Lay Low."

Last month, Lay Lay herself spoke with ET's Melicia Johnson about starring in her own Nickelodeon series.

"It's a dream come true, it's amazing," High, a 14-year-old rapper, shared. "It's really fun, everybody here is very sweet. I've made friends with the whole cast."

High also shared the perks of her avatar character.

"I have some superpowers, I can freeze time, I can disappear. So, that's some of the powers I have, and basically it's just us going through our daily life now that I'm her best friend," she teased. "Nobody knows I came out of the phone. Everybody thinks I'm just her friend. She's the only one who knows. So it's hard keeping it a secret because I'm a little new here. I don't know what I'm doing."

Joining Lay Lay and Gabrielle on the series is Peyton Perrine III (Funny Married Stuff) as Sadie’s brother, “Marky;” Tiffany Daniels (The Fresh Beat Band, Station 19, Grace and Frankie) as Sadie’s mom, “Trish;” Thomas Hobson (The Fresh Beat BandSherman's Showcase) as Sadie’s dad, “Bryce;” and Caleb Brown (Mother's Day, The Odd Couple) as Lay Lay and Sadie’s classmate, “Jeremy.”

That Girl Lay Lay is produced by Will Packer Media (Bigger), with Will Packer (Little, Ride Along) and Carolyn Newman serving as executive producers and Toy Monique Hawkins and Peggy Cheng overseeing.  The series is created and executive produced by David A. Arnold (Side Hustle, Fuller House, Bigger), who also serves as showrunner.  John Beck & Ron Hart (Side Hustle, Fuller House, Liv and Maddie) serve as executive producers.

Production of That Girl Lay Lay for Nickelodeon is overseen by Zack Olin and Shauna Phelan, Co-Heads of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action. Jessica Brown serves as Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production for the series.

The series marks Nickelodeon’s first project under an overall deal with That Girl Lay Lay to develop original multiform programming and music initiatives, and build a cross-category consumer products business. In addition to her new comedy series, Nickelodeon’s comprehensive strategy for That Girl Lay Lay includes supporting her music career and an exclusive line of consumer products, with merchandising agreements spanning categories such as softlines, toy, publishing and more.

Don't miss That Girl Lay Lay when it premieres on Nickelodeon next month.
