Pour des millions de spectateurs, Peyo est le créateur des Schtroumpfs, ces petits lutins bleus qui ont conquis le monde entier dès 1980 à travers des dessins animés à la télévision, et aujourd'hui grâce à des longs métrages mêlant prises de vues réelles et animation en images de synthèse, ainsi qu'un film et une nouvelle série en animation 3D.
Pour des dizaines de milliers de lecteurs de bande dessinées, Peyo est d'abord l'auteur d'un chef-d’œuvre, la série moyenâgeuse "Johan et Pirlouit", qui a vu naître les Schtroumpfs en 1958 dans l'aventure La Flûte à six trous (rebaptisée lors de la parution en album La flûte à six schtroumpfs).
