Nickelodeon Greenlights 'Star Trek Jr.' CG-Animated Preschool Series

NICKELODEON ANNOUNCES GREENLIGHT OF STAR TREK JR.,
ORIGINAL CG-ANIMATED STAR TREK SPINOFF FOR PRESCHOOLERS,
SLATED TO AIR FALL 2023

BURBANK, Calif.--Hot on the heels of the successful launch of the Paramount+ Original Series Star Trek: Prodigy, the first Star Trek series to target younger audiences, Nickelodeon today announced the greenlight of Star Trek Jr. (working title), a brand new CG-animated preschool series set in the ever-expanding universe of Star Trek.

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and CBS Studios’ Eye Animation Production, Star Trek Jr. is a new CG-animated curriculum-driven interactive preschool series that follows Murf from Star Trek: Prodigy along with a new cast of characters on educational adventures around the universe. In addition to the cast of new characters, the series will feature guest appearances from Star Trek legends. The series will debut Fall 2023 on Nickelodeon, Noggin and Paramount+. Star Trek Jr. will feature a curriculum that infuses the core elements of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) and will also cover kindergarten readiness, including literacy, shape recognition and socio-emotional development. The series will also boast an original soundtrack designed to help children learn through song, and will help reinforce the idea that everyday can be an out-of-this-world adventure when you learn something new.

“Nickelodeon is diving even deeper into the Star Trek universe with Star Trek Jr.,” said Ramsey Naito, President of Animation for Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “This new series allows us to expand our reach, tell new stories and introduce our youngest viewers to the core ideals and values of the Star Trek franchise.”

Further details about Star Trek Jr. will be announced in the coming months.

Star Trek Jr. is part of Nickelodeon’s strategy to be the home of the biggest franchises kids and families love, and it expands Nickelodeon’s growing portfolio of influential properties that already includes SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Blue’s Clues & You!, the first-ever SpongeBob spinoffs, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years and The Patrick Star Show, the all-new animated Star Trek: Prodigy series, Big Nate, The Smurfs partnership and the upcoming Transformers and Monster High co-productions.

Star Trek: Prodigy launched on Paramount+ in October 2021 and instantly became a hit with viewers. Currently in its first season, Star Trek: Prodigy has already been renewed for a second season.

Nickelodeon, now in its 43rd year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does.
