Nickelodeon Reportedly Acquires Rights To 'Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude' Children's Novel

Nickelodeon has reportedly acquired the rights to the popular children's book Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude by prolific illustrator Kevin O’Malley!

In Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude, when their teacher gives a joint storytelling assignment, a boy and a girl have different ideas of how their fairy tale should evolve. Can they agree on who will live happily ever after? With a cool motorcycle dude and a beautiful princess the possibilities are endless! The novel was first published in 2005.

When the book's publisher first picked up the rights, O’Malley insisted that they should use three different illustrators for the project to reflect the different viewpoints (the kids and the two separate fairy tales). The book was eventually illustrated by O'Malley, Carol Heyer, and Scott Goto. When Nickelodeon bought the rights to the book, they also agreed to do multiple illustrated styles, with O’Malley being proud of the finished product.

It's currently unknown whether the project is still in production at Nickelodeon, however it does fit in with the network's current commissioning strategy to adapt books and graphic novels for the small and big screen. Over the couple of years, Nickelodeon has ordered series and movies inspired by Big Nate, Real Pigeons Fight Crime, Phoebe and Her Unicorn, and HexVet.
