Hot on the fins of Paramount revealing the official logo for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants for CinemaCon 2024, its been revealed that things may be getting a bit revealing in the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants theatrical movie!
To celebrate the news, Derek Drymon, who is directing the new SpongeBob movie, took to Instagram to say that he's "lucky to be working with an incredible crew on the new SpongeBob movie". Later in the comments, Drymon then reveals that "there WILL be nudity" in the film.
The news shouldn't be too shocking, however, as SpongeBob and his undersea friends have been depicted naked quite a few times throughout the series.
In this new feature, SpongeBob is headed to the depths of the ocean to square-off with the Flying Dutchman's ghost. It will probably take a similar tone to the other three movies that fans have loved over the years.
The original SpongeBob SquarePants voice cast are returning for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SequarePants, including Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton).
The Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies release, based on the beloved series created by Stephen Hillenburg, is being directed by Drymon. Pam Brady and Lisa Stewart and producing. Paramount chief Brian Robbins called it “the biggest SpongeBob ever.”
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is currently slated to be released in theaters on Friday, December 19, 2025 during the holiday season.
Previously set to open during 2025's Memorial Day Weekend, the The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants was originally planned to serve as the culmination of Nickelodeon's year-long celebration marking 25 years of the network's beloved animated series, which kicks off this year.
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is one of four upcoming new movies based on Nickelodeon's beloved animated series, which includes Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, which is slated to debut on Netflix in 2024.
