This month marks the 5th anniversary of The Patrick Star Show, and as we celebrate Patrick (and the wonderfully weird world of SpongeBob SquarePants) it feels like the perfect time to share something that's been hiding in the vault.Five years ago, when we started the series, I was given the exciting challenge of helping create its musical identity—equal parts honoring the legacy of SpongeBob SquarePants while defining The Patrick Star Show as its own wonderfully strange place. That meant finding a sound that felt familiar, but could also wander into some very unexpected places.For the end titles, I threw a bunch of unlikely inspirations into my own musical blender: the guitars of Os Mutantes, the playful melodies of Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, the kitschy rhythms of 1960s TV game show themes, and the infectious boops & bleeps of French electronic pioneer Jean Jacques Perrey. Somehow, those ingredients fused into the music that embodies and closes every episode.Only a short version ever made it into the show, so until now, no one has heard the complete 2:15 minute piece as it was originally intended.I'm thrilled to finally share the full-length version as part of Patrick Star Superstar, a new collection of music from The Patrick Star Show.Patrick Star Superstar is now available on all streaming platforms.
