New Medical Action-Thriller from Lionsgate Television and 42, Created and Written by Geoff Bussetil, to Star Golden Globe® Winner Richard Madden
Production Set to Begin in October 2026
August 5, 2026 – Paramount+ today announced Trauma, a new medical action-thriller series from Lionsgate Television and 42 Management & Production, starring Golden Globe®-winning actor Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Bodyguard, Eternals). The series will premiere on Paramount+ in all available territories excluding the U.K. and Ireland.
Logline: When terrorists seize a busy London Hospital and take the Prime Minister hostage during surgery, former Royal Marines medic turned ER doctor Jim Marchant (Richard Madden) must fight his way through the building to save everyone inside. As he takes the hospital floor by floor, the balance of power shifts—and the building becomes a deadly battle of strategy, nerve and survival.
Trauma, which is a working title, is produced by Lionsgate Television and 42. The series is created by Geoff Bussetil (Slow Horses, Scoop, Skins), who will also write. Prime Video and Paramount+ will co-produce. The series is directed by Daniel Syrkin (Tehran, MobLand) and produced by Chrissy Skinns (A Spy Among Friends, The Last Kingdom), with 42’s Chris Kennedy serving as co-producer. Madden, Syrkin and 42’s Ben Pugh and Ben Cavey will executive produce.
Trauma came together through a unique co-production model brokered by Lionsgate Television and 42, bringing together Prime Video and Paramount+ for distribution. Lionsgate holds a minority stake in 42.
Trauma is exactly the kind of bold, global and propulsive storytelling we want Paramount+ audiences to experience,” said Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+. “Geoff Bussetil has crafted a nail-biting thriller that puts our audience inside one impossible night with a hero played by the incredibly talented Richard Madden. We can’t wait for viewers around the world to feel their pulse racing alongside his.”
“This premium global series has come together through exceptional creative collaboration and innovative dealmaking,” said Scott Herbst, EVP & Head of Scripted Development, Lionsgate Television. “Together with 42, we’ve assembled a best-in-class team of partners in Prime Video and Paramount+, and the result is a gripping, high-stakes series that showcases Geoff Bussetil's distinctive vision and Richard Madden's undeniable appeal. Trauma demonstrates what’s possible when strong creative and distribution partners align behind ambitious, internationally resonant storytelling.”
42's Managing Director of International TV, Ben Cavey, added: "Geoff Bussetil has crafted an absolute page turner of a thriller, which uniquely brings together the fast-paced energy of a hospital ER with a high-stakes siege thriller. It's hard to imagine a more perfect director than Daniel Syrkin, with his brilliant mastery of on-screen tension and complex drama – and Richard Madden was of course made to play this flawed but good-hearted hero, an ex-military man turned Doctor who is about to have the longest and most intense shift of his life."
Madden can next be seen in Netflix's upcoming series Trinity. Previously, he starred in Amazon’s feature film Killer Heat and Marvel Studios’ Eternals, directed by Academy Award® winner Chloé Zhao. In 2019, Madden won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series for Netflix’s Emmy Award®-nominated series Bodyguard. He also starred in both seasons of The Russo Brothers’ Citadel. He is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern, LLP.
This announcement follows other recent greenlights from Paramount+ including Ascent starring Viola Davis, the Clueless Sequel Event Series with Alicia Silverstone returning, Laird, led by Kenneth Branagh, Fear Not starring Anne Hathaway, 9/12 starring Jeremy Strong and Discretion starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning.

Audio clips of Peppa saying words like "hooray!" were used in Wolfoo videos, a judge found

A judge has ordered all videos featuring popular animated character Wolfoo to be removed from platforms including YouTube after ruling that the cartoon illegally copied audio from Peppa Pig.
Wolfoo, a Vietnamese animation about a young wolf who lives with his family, has had hundreds of millions of views online.
A High Court judge in London recently ruled in favour of entertainment giant Hasbro, which owns the rights to Peppa Pig, after it sued Wolfoo's makers SConnect for copyright infringement.
Mr Justice Smith said the copying - in which Wolfoo videos used short audio clips of Peppa and her family saying words like "hooray!" - had been "prolific" and "long-standing".

In a ruling this week, the judge said "all videos featuring Wolfoo" must be taken down before 16:00 BST on Monday.
Hasbro and Peppa Pig's creators Astley Baker Davies Ltd originally took court action in London in 2022.
They claimed SConnect had attempted "to deceive the young Wolfoo viewership, most aged between two and five, into believing that Wolfoo is the same character as Peppa Pig" or connected to Peppa, the judge wrote.
The companies initially complained about Wolfoo's appearance and artwork, but focused their legal case on the audio because they believed it would be easier to prove that sound clips were directly copied.
The evidence of "copying of the audio clips is compelling", the judge decided.
"That copying was extensive, seemingly endemic at least so far as the English language Wolfoo videos are concerned."
SConnect denied the copyright infringement claim but accepted that some Wolfoo videos made before mid-2020 included audio from Peppa Pig because an independent third-party contractor had used the clips without the company's knowledge.
SConnect said all infringing videos were removed, and that Wolfoo animations made after mid-2020 used only voices and sounds that were created in-house.
However, the judge said the fact the sounds were supplied by a third party was "irrelevant"; that while many infringing videos were removed, some were simply moved to other channels; and that the claim that all new sounds were recorded in-house "can be disproved".
The judge said clips from Peppa Pig were found in all 92 English-language Wolfoo videos that were examined, and about 75% of the foreign-language videos.
'Significant judgment'
SConnect said the ruling should only apply to the videos examined in the sample, but the judge declared that all Wolfoo videos should now be removed.
SConnect also argued that the area covered by the ruling would be "too broad", but the judge said it would apply in the UK, European Union and all 166 World Trade Organisation member states, which also include the USA and Vietnam.
Andrew Lee, partner and head of intellectual property at law firm Brandsmiths, which represented Hasbro, told BBC News it was a "significant judgment".
Peppa Pig is available "in hundreds of countries around the world, and this was obviously a major problem for the brand because of the scale of Wolfoo", he said.
"By bringing the claim in the UK courts, which was our home territory, and because the defendants had activity in the United Kingdom even though they were based in Vietnam, we were able to persuade the court to hear the case on a wider scale.
"So it was about trying to protect the Peppa Pig brand in one forum, rather than having to bring actions in every single country."

TOM HARDY, PIERCE BROSNAN AND HELEN MIRREN ARE BACK FOR
CHAOS AND CARNAGE IN SEASON TWO OF THE HIT SERIES
July 9, 2026 - Prepare for uncivil war, the Harrigans are bloody back: MobLand season two will premiere globally on Paramount+ on Friday, September 18. The teaser trailer and first-look images for the new season of the hit Paramount+ Original series, produced in association with Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, features Tom Hardy returning as loyal fixer Harry da Souza, alongside Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren as the unscrupulous heads of the Harrigan family, Conrad and Maeve.
The ten-episode second season will see the Harrigans struggle to show a unified front as rising rivals threaten their fractured criminal empire – and Harry Da Souza, their street-smart and formidable ‘fixer’, must walk a dangerous tightrope when tensions within the family intensify. As violence spills into every corner of their lives, loyalties snap, safety proves temporary, and the battle for power leaves no room for mercy.
Alongside Hardy, Brosnan and Mirren, the series also stars Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Teddie Allen, Emmett J. Scanlan, Johnny Flynn, Ophelia Lovibond, Janet McTeer, and Toby Jones.
MobLand is commissioned by Paramount+ and produced in association with Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios. The series is executive produced by David C. Glasser, Guy Ritchie, Jez Butterworth, Tom Hardy, Ivan Atkinson, Dean Baker, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari and Keith Cox.
The first season of MobLand is available to binge on Paramount+ globally.
Paramount, a Skydance Corporation is a leading, next-generation global media and entertainment company, comprised of three business segments: Studios, Direct-to-Consumer, and TV Media. Paramount's portfolio unites legendary brands, including Paramount Pictures, Paramount Television, CBS – America's most-watched broadcast network, CBS News, CBS Sports, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Comedy Central, Showtime, Paramount+, Paramount TV, and Skydance's Animation, Film, Television, Interactive/Games, and Sports divisions. Update (7/1): Tom Hardy is not leaving MobLand behind after all. Variety has confirmed with sources that the actor is set to return to the Paramount+ crime drama for a potential third season.
As previously reported, Hardy had completed work on Season 2 of the series when he fell out with executive producer Jez Butterworth, 101 Studios, and others. Production wrapped on Season 2 in March.
Hardy and the production team reportedly met in London to hash out their issues, leading to Hardy’s return to the show. Sources previously told Variety that plans were underway to bring Hardy back to the series. A third season has not been formally announced at this time, but given the show’s success on the streaming platform it is all but guaranteed.
Variety has reached out to Paramount, 101 Studios, and reps for Hardy for comment.
Mirren has been vocal in her support of Hardy and his return to the show both on social media and in an interview with Variety at the Taormina Film Festival. When asked if she would work with the actor again, she replied “Absolutely. In a f--king heartbeat,” she said. “I love Tom, I think he’s the most amazing actor. Different actors have different processes. I’ve learnt over the years that some people get to things faster. As long as what’s on the screen is fantastic, I’m totally chilled with however someone gets there. Tom is a very special person. I think he’s absolutely remarkable. My support of him is genuine and heartfelt.”
Hardy is believed to have had a three-year contract from the onset, so his return would be pretty straight-forward.
A Season 3 writers room is already underway on MobLand ahead of the Paramount+ drama’s Season 2 premiere, Deadline is reporting. But if/when the series is renewed for a third season, it will be without one of its stars, Tom Hardy, who will not be returning, Deadline has confirmed.
Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza in 'MobLand' | Luke Varley/Paramount+
Hardy stars opposite Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren in MobLand, which has wrapped production on its second season. Hardy completed the season but not without issues, sources said. Friction between him and the series’ writer, executive producer and showrunner Jez Butterworth reportedly boiled over to a point where the two could no longer work together. Hardy’s chronic lateness to set is believed to be one of the points of contention, with tension between him and his co-stars also said to be a contributing factor.
A source familiar to the situation told Puck, who first reported on the actor's exit, that Hardy was also constantly asked to give notes on scripts, attempted to change dialogue, and expressed his displeasure that a series initially built around him was increasingly becoming an ensemble showcase for Mirren, Brosnan, and other co-stars. It got to the point where Butterworth threatened to quit, according to the source.
Paramount responded to the situation by dropping Hardy, though his contract does contain a mutual option for the third season, so he could have bailed on his own if he wanted.
Reps for Hardy and Paramount declined to comment when reached by Puck.
MobLand was renewed for a second season last year after logging Paramount+’s second biggest launch for an original series behind Landman.
In addition to Butterworth, the series comes from executive producer Guy Ritchie, creator, writer and exec producer Ronan Bennett. Butterworth also is behind Paramount+, 101 and PTVS’ The Agency (via Showtime).
In MobLand, two mob families clash in a war that threatens to topple empires and lives. Led by Hardy, Brosnan and Mirren, the cast also includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Lisa Dwan and Emily Barber.
