Nickelodeon Seeking Fresh Puerto Rican Talent to Feature in Upcoming Projects

Nickelodeon is on the lookout for fresh Puerto Rican talent to feature in upcoming projects!

El filme Dora and the Lost City of Gold se inspira en el conocido programa del canal de cable dedicado a los niños.

Hot on the heels of Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Nickelodeon's brand-new theatrical movie inspired by the network's beloved animated preschool series, Dora the Explorer, with features an all Latino cast, Nickelodeon, the number-one network for kids, which recently turned 40, is now looking to help integrate more diverse actors and characters into its programming and movies, amongst other productions, so that viewers can identify themselves with characters they see on television.

Nickelodeon has a long history of programming featuring diverse actors and characters, including Dora the Explorer, The Brothers Garcia, Taina, and Gullah Gullah Island.

On its mission to further include diverse characters into its programming, Nickelodeon is now searching Puerto Rico for local talent to feature in upcoming productions.

Nickelodeon is specifically seeking children and adolescents aged between 11 and 16 years, who have the talent to act, mainly in the genre of comedy, and have good charisma and comic timing. Other attributes that will be taken into consideration are that kids should have a good singing voice and that they know how to rap. Those interested should speak fluent English, no matter if they have an accent.

“Nickelodeon is trying to expand in Latin areas for its viewers, due to the boom in the number of Latinos in the United States, and now especially Puerto Rico. In fact, they have Nickelodeon Latinoamérica and it doesn't cover Puerto Rico. But although the channel is not seen in the Country, for other reasons, they are looking at Puerto Rico to find new talent,” said Zoraida Sanjurjo, director of talent and in charge of looking for candidates.

Puerto Rico has been no stranger to Nickelodeon, whose parent company is Viacom. In the early 2000s they made a series titled Taina, whose main character was a young Puerto Rican. Nickelodeon has also held several Summits in the country, with the purpose that participants learn how to develop diverse characters.

Nickelodeon's new talent search is the second and represents a great opportunity for Puerto Rican artists, following the new film version of West Side Story also looking in the country for some of it's main characters. Sanjurjo was also in charge of finding the actors for this project, which will directed by Steven Spielberg.

“For us Puerto Ricans it is positive that they are looking for talent in the country. In this case it means an opening to a market that we have not previously had access to for children. This is the first time ... to my knowledge. It is a tremendous opportunity, because it will help the great amount of artistic talent in this country, especially for youth. This country is full of talent in all areas. The West Side Story production came to look for Puerto Rican talent, because it knows that there is a lot of talent here. Take a look at Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony ... ”, highlighted EL VOCERO Sanjurjo, who has selected actors for the cast of countless Hollywood movies filmed in the country.

Nickelodeon emphasized that the important thing is that they are talented children, because they will not consider sex, race, ethnicity, skin color, or disability.

Parents or guardians interested in having their children participate in upcoming Nickelodeon productions should send a short introductory photo and video showing their skills to the following email address: nickelodeonstarpr@gmail.com.

>Suministrada
