Nickelodeon UK to Premiere 'The Crystal Maze USA' on Friday 4th September 2020
Share it: #CrystalMaze @nickelodeonUK
London – Comedian/writer Adam Conover is the new host of Nickelodeon’s upcoming family game show, The Crystal Maze, an all-new version of the legendary UK hit series, premiering Friday 4th September 2020 at 7:00pm on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland! The Crystal Maze will feature Conover as the Maze Master, charged with guiding one family team through physical and mental challenges set within an elaborate labyrinth of four giant and immersive themed zones: Aztec, Eastern, Futuristic and Industrial.
Each episode will encore the same night at 10:00pm. So not to get confused with the UK version, the show will be locally titled The Crystal Maze USA in the U.K.
Said Conover, “As the Maze Master, the only thing that gives me greater joy than tormenting our adventurers with devious games is handing out giant cash prizes to the lucky few who manage to escape the challenges inside the crystal maze. This show is the ultimate challenge for families, proving that you have to work together if you want to win, and that’s a fact.”
“We are delighted to welcome Adam Conover into the Nickelodeon family as our first Maze Master. His wit, warmth and pizazz are the perfect attributes to guide families through the exhilarating adventure that is The Crystal Maze,” said Rob Bagshaw, Executive Vice President, Nickelodeon Unscripted Content.
The premiere episode of The Crystal Maze, "The Walls Are Closing In!" will feature the Blair family from Houston, Texas, tackling a range of mind-bending games and challenges in the maze - a first-ever U.S. audiences. This season will feature families from: Scottsdale, Ariz; Lake Forest, Calif; Eastvale, Calif ; St. Augustine, Fla; Windemere, Fla; Chester, Va; Germantown, Tenn; Carollton, Texas; and Wheaton, Ill.
In each episode, the youngest family member takes on the role of team Captain. The successful completion of escape-room style challenges are rewarded with a “time crystal” granting the family five seconds in the centerpiece final zone called the Crystal Dome. The more crystals gathered throughout the game, the more time each family has for a dramatic clock countdown challenge inside the iconic Dome for a chance to win up to $25,000.
A current ratings smash in the UK, The Crystal Maze has been a beloved family and cult favorite since the mid ‘90s, with the current global popularity of the escape room phenomena reigniting interest further. The show was recently rebooted to great success with celebrity, charity and family seasons in UK, Australia and beyond.
The Crystal Maze is co-produced by Bunim/Murray Productions (The Real World, The Challenge, Born This Way) and RDF Television (Secret Life of 4 Year Olds, Wife Swap, Shipwrecked) under parent company Banijay Group. Gil Goldschein and Maria Pepin from Bunim/Murray Productions, Neale Simpson from Fizz, part of RDF Television, and Stephen David from Stephen David Entertainment serve as executive producers. Production of The Crystal Maze for Nickelodeon is overseen by Rob Bagshaw, Executive Vice President, Unscripted Content.
Production on the new series (10 one-hour episodes) took place on the show's original set located at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol, England, during summer 2020. A second season was commissioned, however, its status is currently unknown due to the on-going COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
Devised by Jacques Antoine, the UK version of The Crystal Maze was originally hosted by Richard O'Brien (Rocky Horror), followed by Ed Tudor-Pole. The reboot was originally presented by Stephen Merchant (for Stand Up To Cancer), and currently by Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd, Travel Man) with his "hand." The show's theme song is the legendary "Force Field".
Nickelodeon's The Crystal Maze made its debut in the U.S. on Friday, January 24th.

'Glitch Techs' Co-Creator Gives Show Production Status Update
When Nickelodeon originally picked up the show in 2016, they initially ordered 20 episodes for season one. The series then got picked up for an additional 10 episodes. These 10 episodes were written, storyboarded and designed before Nickelodeon placed on the show on hiatus, so unfortunately never got animated and are sitting inside Nickelodeon’s server.
With Glitch Techs being met with mostly positive reviews, many have been wondering about the future of the series, given that the series was put on hiatus rather abruptly in January 2019. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like good news at the moment.
Update (8/17) - With Glitch Techs "season 2" hitting Netflix, Milano has further revealed that the unfinished episodes have also been voiced, and just need to be shipped for animation!:
1. We have quite a few #glitchtechs shows that were scripted voiced and storyboarded in 2018 but were not shipped for animation. If @Netflix and @NickAnimation hear enough from fans they may opt to put us into production again.
— Dan Milano #BlackLivesMatter (@DanMilano) August 17, 2020
2. Yes! https://t.co/bMi3CbJDKs
When asked on Twitter if season two of Glitch Techs would pick up its myth storyarc, Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), one of the co-creators of Glitch Techs, confirmed that the show is indeed currently cancelled:
"Right now we are unfortunately cancelled and long gone from Nickelodeon but if the show is brought back we would continue with contained stories that also grow and expand the lore chronologically with a few tenpole eps along the way that fill in the larger story"
Although production on the show is currently in limbo, when asked if there's any chance of the show could be saved, Dan revealed: "yes! get us trending!"
So, you know what to do, Glitch Heads! :) #GlitchTechs #ReleaseTheGlitch #RespectTheTech
Who knows what really happens when a video game starts to glitch? In Glitch Techs, two teens work at a game store as a front for their actual job: Hunting video game monsters who've broken out into the real world for a super secret task force, The Monster Hunters! Nickelodeon's brand-new animated adventure-comedy series follows two newly recruited kids as they battle video game monsters that come to life in the real world.
This brand new animated series features High Five and Miko, two gamers who are recruited into the world of Glitch Techs: kids who battle the video game glitches that enter our world through faulty game consoles!
In the world of Glitch Techs, Hinobi is a huge gaming and tech company that makes massively popular video games consoles. What Hinobi customers do NOT know is that their games sometimes glitch and release dangerous video game creatures into the real world! That’s when the company send the Glitch Techs: a trained support team equipped with an arsenal of fantastic gaming gear designed to capture video game pests and out them back where they belong!
Once a glitch is returned, the Techs must remove any evidence it was there – including the memories of any witnesses! Not only do Glitch Techs fight for the safety of the city, they also work at Hinobi stores, helping customers with tech support and service needs.
Enter Miko and high Five – new recruits who fight glitches and reformat witnesses all before the store closes at 5pm. Talk about a crazy job! Respect the Tech!
Glitch Techs stars Ricardo Hurtado as High Five, Monica Ray as Miko, Luke Youngblood as Mitch, Sandeep Parikh as Haneesh, Zehra Fazal as Zahra, Josh Sussman as Bergy, Eric Lopez as Papi, Dan Milano as BITT and Scott Kreamer as Phil, as well as Scott Kreamer, Betsy Sodaro, Ashly Burch, Greg Nix, Dee Baker, Stephanie Sheh, Jolene Kim, Felicia Day, Cree Summer, Roshon Fegan, Rachael Russakoff, Nolan North and many more. Dee Bradley Baker (Legends of the Hidden Temple, American Dad) and Stephanie Sheh voice Miko's parents, Jane Lynch (iCarly, Glee) will guest star on the series. In addition to voicing some characters, Felicia Day was also a consultant for the series.
Glitch Techs comes from Eric Robles (Fanboy & Chum Chum, The X's, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan) and Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), both hailing from Nickelodeon's Artist Collective, an internal artist-led development program, and is produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif. Nickelodeon has picked-up Glitch Techs for an initial 20-episode first season. A second season was commissioned, however, Nickelodeon halted production half-way through.
On his Twitter co-creator Milano described the influences and inspiration behind the animated show, “Being childhood fans of the paranormal investigation genre, Glitch Techs is absolutely Eric Robles’ and my love letter to Ghostbusters and Men in Black with plenty of X-Files, Buffy, Doctor Who, Star Trek, and dozens of other stuff we and our collabs grew up on.”
Update (4/20) - Eric Robles has revealed that one of the episodes currently sitting on Nickelodeon's servers would feature the return of Nogrog, voiced by Adam Croasdell!:
Humanity I’ll needs saviors such as you guys. ~Nogrog / Come meet this charming fellow now on Netflix! Played by the talented @ACroasdell 🧛♂️ #glitchtechs @netflix #animation #videogames #castlecrawl #castlevania #vampire @DanMilano @xXIbgrahamXx @crayonmonsters pic.twitter.com/5xOEeIPN35
