BURBANK, Calif.–Feb. 18, 2021–As Nickelodeon paves the way for the spring premiere of the brand-new animated series Baby Shark’s Big Show!, the net is debuting a block of original Baby Shark shorts and doubling down on its preschool slate with renewals of top hits from its powerhouse preschool portfolio. Nick has greenlit a second season of Santiago of the Seas, a fourth season of Blue’s Clues & You! and a ninth season of PAW Patrol, which was the number-one preschool series on all TV last year. For 2020, Nickelodeon was home to nine of the top 10 preschool shows on all TV, and the number-one cable network for Kids 2-5, Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11.

In advance of the spring premiere of Baby Shark’s Big Show!, the brand-new animated preschool series (26 half-hour episodes, co-produced by SmartStudy) based on Pinkfong’s Baby Shark Dance, the world-famous pop culture phenomenon, Nickelodeon will air “Baby Shark Shorts,” a collection of five mini-adventures, on Friday, Feb. 26, at 12:30 p.m. (ET/PT). The shorts follow Baby Shark and his best bud William as they dive into dancing, games and snack-sized mysteries, giving preschoolers a peek at the jaw-some underwater escapades that await in the upcoming series.

Building upon the successful debut of Santiago of the Seas, which premiered in October 2020 and garnered the biggest L+3 lift Nickelodeon has ever had for a preschool launch, the net has picked up the series for a second season. Season two of Santiago of the Seas (26 half-hour episodes) will follow kind-hearted pirate Santiago “Santi” and his courageous crew—his cousin Tomás, first mate Lorelai the mermaid and best friend Kiko the frog—as they continue to sail the high seas aboard the legendary ship El Bravo to keep the islands safe. The new season of this fantastical Latino-Caribbean inspired action-adventure series will feature spectacular treasure, pesky villains and wondrous new lands.

In the fourth season of Blue’s Clues & You! (26 half-hour episodes), Josh (Josh Dela Cruz) and Blue will adventure to new locations in their bustling neighborhood, from an epic quest as brave knights, to saving the day as firefighter helpers and more. The season will also feature new music and fun-filled holiday traditions with family and friends.

Season nine of PAW Patrol (26 half-hour episodes, produced by Spin Master Entertainment) will follow the paw-some pack of pups—Chase, Marshall, Rubble, Skye, Rocky, Zuma, Everest and Tracker—as they take on exciting new missions. Whether it’s on the outskirts of town or beneath the waters of Adventure Bay, new pup pals and action-packed rescues are on the way.

‘Henry Danger’ Run on Netflix Flies to No. 4 Spot on Nielsen U.S. Streaming Chart

Nickelodeon's hit superhero-themed comedy series Henry Danger, which ran between 2014 to 2020, saw its first three seasons on Netflix land at No. 4 on Nielsen’s U.S. streaming rankings for January 18 to 24!

Henry‘s strong showing, with 731 million minutes of viewing, comes just weeks before Nickelodeon parent ViacomCBS rebrands streaming service CBS All Access as Paramount+ in a high-profile streaming push. In fact, the show’s first four seasons have been available on CBS All Access, but the Netflix debut came on January 21.

Even as ViacomCBS nurtures ambitions for Paramount+, which will be showcased next week at an event for investors and press, the company has opted to sell off some streaming rights to its properties given strong pricing. Just before Viacom and CBS completed their merger in late 2019, Viacom reached a licensing deal with Netflix for a suite of Nickelodeon film and TV properties. The company has also licensed South Park and Yellowstone to HBO Max and Peacock, respectively, as well as selling film titles like Coming to America 2 and The Lovebirds to streaming services due to Covid-19 theater closures. Schitt’s Creek, whose run on ViacomCBS-owned Pop TV was crowned by a milestone Emmy sweep last year, reached the attention of voters and viewers in large part due to its presence on Netflix.

Nickelodeon's beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra also enjoyed renewed popularity last year, as people flocked to watch the series during the lockdown, with the former becoming the most watched children's TV series on the streamer in 2020. iCarly, which saw its first two seasons added to Netflix earlier this month, has also been enjoying success, placing 3rd on both the complete Top 10 list and Top 10 TV series of the day.

Some Wall Street analysts have questioned the company’s approach to licensing, given that Disney and, to a lesser extent, NBCUniversal and WarnerMedia have reclaimed or withheld rights to some titles for their own streaming purposes. But ViacomCBS management has held firm with its assertions that decisions are reached with financial rigor and through a multi-step evaluation process. In many instances, they point out, as with Nickelodeon or South Park, significant rights remain with ViacomCBS even as others are licensed to third parties.

Nielsen measures only viewing via TV sets, meaning mobile streaming is not counted. The figures are reported after a weeks-long delay, by arrangement with the group of services being measured, which at this point includes only Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and Disney+.

Starring Jace Norman and Cooper Barnes, Henry Danger is Nickelodeon's longest running live-action series to date, with 128 episodes across five seasons. Following its conclusion, Nickelodeon launched a spin-off, Danger Force, which saw Barnes reprise his role as Captain Man to mentor a new group of kids who have gained super powers. Danger Force is produced by Norman and Barnes.

Here is the top 10 for the week, with the number of episodes and total minutes of viewing:

Bridgerton – 8 episodes, 1.061 billion minutes
Criminal Minds – 297 eps., 939M min.
Grey’s Anatomy – 366 eps., 754M min.
Henry Danger – 64 eps., 731M min.
Cobra Kai – 30 eps., 727M min.
Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer – 4 eps., 727M min.
Mariposa de Barrio – 91 eps., 705M min.
Schitt’s Creek – 80 eps., 671M min.
Fate: The Winx Saga – 6 eps., 670M min.
Outside the Wire – film, 553M min.

Could 'Victorious' Be the Next Nickelodeon Series to Be Revived?

Could Victorious be the next hit Nickelodeon series to be getting a revival?

Fans were delighted when it was announced in December that Paramount+ was reviving Nickelodeon's beloved comedy series iCarly, and it looks like there could be plans to revive another modern day Nickelodeon classic, Victorious!

Talking to fans on Twitter in January 2021, Jay Kogen, one of the producers of Paramount+'s upcoming iCarly revival, revealed that he has friends who were trying to develop a Victorious revival! There's only one snag: They couldn't get show star Victoria Justice on board:

In a Tweet earlier in the month, Kogen suggested that, instead of a revival, Nickelodeon could remake the series, albeit without Victoria Justice:

Victoria might not be the only hurdle producers would have to get over to revive Victorious. Victoria's co-star Ariana Grande, who played Tori's friend Cat Valentine on the show, has become a global superstar since the show wrapped, meaning the singer-actor is pretty busy these days.

Initially running for 57 episodes across four seasons between March 27, 2010 – February 2, 2013 on Nickelodeon, Victorious followed the life of Tori Vega (Justice), who, after years of living in her older sister's shadow, was invited to attend Hollywood Arts, a high school with a focus on the performing arts. While the invitation came as a surprise — she's never thought of herself as particularly talented — and she still has to deal with being the new kid on campus, Hollywood Arts may just give Tori her chance to shine.

In addition to Justice, the series starred Ariana Grande as Cat Valentine, Leon Thomas III as Andre Harris, Daniella Monet (Paradise Run) as Trina, Matt Bennett as Robbie Shapiro (along with his puppet, Rex Powers), Liz Gillies as Jade West and Avan Jogia as Beck Oliver, as well as Eric Lange as teacher Erwin Sikowitz. The series was created by Dan Schneider. Filmed at Nickelodeon on Sunset in Hollywood, California, the series was produced by Schneider's Bakery, Sony Music Entertainment and Nickelodeon Productions.

The series ended quite abruptly in 2013, without the show getting a proper series finale, which not only upset fans, but also the show's stars.

The series was spun off with iCarly for Sam & Cat, which saw Grande and iCarly star Jennette McCurdy reprise their respective roles.

In March 2020, the cast of Victorious held a virtual reunion for fans to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their show.

Victorious is available to stream on Paramount+.

Would you like to see a Victorious reboot? Let me know in the comments!
