Linda Kahn, who worked for nearly four decades in children’s television as an executive with such companies as Nickelodeon, MTV Networks and Scholastic Media, has passed away. She was 72.

Kahn died Aug. 30 in New York of complications from metastatic breast cancer, longtime friend and publicist Sheryl Johnston announced.

Kahn spent 12 years in senior executive positions at Nickelodeon and MTV Networks starting in 1983, then worked for Scholastic Media from 1995-2008.

She also served as board president of New York Women in Film & Television from 2003-05.

In 2008, she formed Linda Kahn Media, a global consulting firm dedicated to forging business and creative partnerships in all aspects of children’s media as well as entertainment for general audiences.

And since 2010, she worked with Matt Kaplowitz at Bridge Multimedia, where as director of programming she was instrumental in making educational children’s TV programming and gaming accessible to blind/visually impaired and disabled students through The New York Institute for Special Education.

Born in Chicago on Sept. 15, 1948, Kahn graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1970 before moving to Boston, where she taught English in junior high school and earned her master’s degree from Boston University.

As Vice President (VP) of acquisitions for Nickelodeon, she pioneered program acquisitions for the network and was instrumental in the launch of Nick at Nite.

As Senior Vice President (SVP) of international program sales, she initiated and built Nickelodeon’s television syndication and format sales worldwide; introduced such original series as Rugrats, The Ren & Stimpy Show and Doug to the global children’s TV market; and worked with networks around the world to customize Nickelodeon game show formats to local markets (the BBC with Double Dare and ITV with Finders Keepers created successful series based on Nick formats).

She went on to become senior vp international TV sales and merchandising at Scholastic Media, leading international consumer products and promotional activities for such properties as WordGirl, Maya and Miguel, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Horrible Histories, Stellaluna, The Magic School Bus, Animorphs and Goosebumps.

Kahn also spearheaded the branding/distribution of Scholastic’s Video Collection and created a video line based on its Weston Woods Library of best-selling picture books.

Kahn served as board co-president of the Greater NYC Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure from 2007-09 and was a Komen NYC board member from 2003-10 and a BAFTA NY board member from 2003-10.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Christopher Gordon, and her sister, Beth Malichi.

“She had a great thirst for knowledge, and as a former educator, she was passionate about education,” fellow BAFTA member Susan Margolin said in a statement. “She was devoted to her tightknit family, especially her loving husband Chris, as well as to her friends. Her optimism, positive outlook and wicked sense of humor were always utterly refreshing and inspiring. … Her passing will be mourned by many.”

The New York Institute for Special Education has set up a Linda Kahn Afterschool Fund in her memory to further the education/enrichment of students with disabilities. In lieu of flowers, people can contribute to it here.

'Power Rangers Dino Fury' Introduces Franchise's First LGBTQ+ Ranger

New episodes of Power Rangers Dino Fury will hit Nickelodeon later this month, but some of the episodes have started airing internationally, revealing some of what's coming up here in the states if you happen to look for spoilers on social media. The new episodes have revealed that the series just achieved a major milestone. Now, spoilers are incoming for Power Rangers Dino Fury, so if you don't want to be spoiled look away now.

The reason for the celebration is that in the latest episode of Dino Fury, Power Rangers just introduced the first LGBTQ+ Ranger in Tessa Rao's Izzy!

Izzy is the team's Green Ranger, and while we don't have all the details of the episode, we know that at one point in the episode Izzy grabs the hand of Fern, played by Jacqueline Joe, and they walk off happy hand in hand.

This is a major moment for the franchise, and as many have pointed out, well overdue. One of the hallmarks of Power Rangers has always been its diversity and inclusivity, and this is yet another step forward in that regard.

Power Rangers Dino Fury executive producer Simon Bennett has responded a few times to comments about the episode, and when someone brought up it possibly being a marketing ploy, Bennett assured that was not the case. "I assure you, it was no marketing ploy. And yes, well overdue."

Bennett also said "Very happy with the reaction to Power Rangers #dinofury episode 13, which has just aired in France. Really looking forward to when it is available in the US, and I can jump into discussions."

Power Rangers Dino Fury stars Russell Curry (Dino Fury Red), Hunter Deno (Dino Fury Pink), Kainalu Moya (Dino Fury Blue), Chance Perez (Dino Fury Black), and Tessa Rao (Dino Fury Green), and you can find the official description below.

"When an army of powerful alien beings is unleashed on Earth threatening life as we know it, a brand-new team of Power Rangers, fueled by the pre-historic power of the dinosaurs, are recruited to deal with the threat."

Catch brand new episodes of Power Rangers Dino Fury, Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. ET/PT from September 18 on Nickelodeon!

Sandy Cheeks' Attack Move Set in 'Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl' Revealed

We recently got to see SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star's moves in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, and now the upcoming fighter game's official Twitter has released a move list for another one of the game's playable launch characters. This time, the third member of the Bikini Bottom gang sees their moveset shared - Sandy Cheeks!

Sandy Cheeks is the show's friendly Texan squirrel genius who joins SpongeBob in his karate practice. Here in All-Star Brawl, Sandy definitely uses her Kah-Rah-Tay chops in combat, among various other maneuvers.

Sandy's light attacks include a quick double jab attack, a tail sweep, and an uppercut. The latter strike looks similar to Mario's up tilt in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and she also has a jumping light attack that sees her spread her arms out and seemingly hit on both sides.

Her dash light attack sees her charge the opponent with an acorn in hand, while dashing heavy brings out her shell sandboard to mow down anyone in her way.

As far as special moves go, Sandy will be able to a big "Star Slam" on her opponents with neutral special, fly into the air on a jet pack with up special, and stand tall above the battle field with her "Extend-O-Boots" down special.

Oh, and since you were likely wondering... Sandy's "Kah-Rah-Tay Chop" can be performed using down heavy.

Light Attack: Double Jab, Uppercut, Tail Sweep, Two-Way Punch, Aerial Uppercut, Downward Kick, Acorn Tackle

Strong Attack: Kick Punch Combo, Punch-Kick-Tail Combo, Kah-Rah-Tay Chop, Bicycle Kick, Upward Stomp, Tail Spin, Shell Sandboard Slide

Special Attack: Star Slam, Rocket Pack, Extend-O-Boots

If you're hoping to get your hands on this platform fighter, you will be able to do so on October 5 when it releases on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Microsoft Windows.
