NICKELODEON EPICALLY ASSEMBLES THREE GENERATIONS OF BLUE'S CLUES HOSTS TO CELEBRATE SERIES' LANDMARK 25TH ANNIVERSARY

Nickelodeon is commemorating 25 years of its groundbreaking animated series Blue's Clues, which launched Sept. 8, 1996, with a one-of-a-kind nostalgic music video titled "You Can't Spell Blue without YOU," featuring Blue's Clues & You! star Josh Dela Cruz and former Blue's Clues hosts, Donovan Patton and Steve Burns, alongside real-life fans from various generations who grew up watching the series. Available to view on Nickelodeon and the Nick Jr. channel and across Nick Jr.'s social media platforms, the music video was directed by Steve Burns.

In "You Can't Spell Blue without YOU," Blue and the Blue's Clues hosts acknowledge the generations of fans throughout the years through song. The video features a series of images and art from past and present viewers as well as fans all grown up holding up photos of themselves as little kids.

With critical praise from educators, parents, and preschoolers, Blue's Clues has generated an enormous global fanbase over the years in over 160 countries and more than 20 languages. Blue's Clues drew acclaim and high ratings for its unique interactivity that helped change the way kids watch television and has remained one of the most popular preschool shows of all time. The landmark series also raised the bar in preschool television by exploring advanced subject matter such as sign language, geography, physics, emotions, and anatomy. The show is the recipient of numerous awards including Peabody Awards, Parents Choice Awards, Television Critics Association Awards and Prix Jeunesse.

The legacy and lasting impact of the series continues with the remake of Blue's Clues & You! in 2019, which has a new generation of preschoolers searching for clues with beloved puppy Blue and new live-action host Josh (Josh Dela Cruz). The series features new CG-animation for Blue and Magenta, brand-new elements and refreshed iconic items from the original series including an updated Handy Dandy Notebook equipped with smartphone technology and the return of fan-favorite characters. Blue's Clues & You!, produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif., was recently picked up for a fourth season and nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards. Currently in its second season, the show airs weekdays at 11 a.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

Original ‘Blues Clues’ Host Steve Burns Returns to Address Abrupt Exit: ‘I Never Forgot You’ (Video)

”We started out with clues and now it’s, what, student loans?“ he says on the beloved Nickelodeon show’s 25th anniversary

Nickelodeon reunited all three Blue’s Clues hosts in celebration of the beloved kids show’s 25th anniversary, and a video message from original host Steve Burns has the show’s original generation of fans feeling emotional.

In the video, Burns wore the striped green shirt that was his character Steve’s trademark look on the show and reflected on the things he’s accomplished in the years since his time on Blue’s Clues. He also addressed his “abrupt” exit that left fans reeling nearly two decades ago.

Using his gentle, friendly “Steve” voice, he asks if we remember when “one day, I was like, ‘Oh hey, guess what? Big news, I’m leaving’… and we didn’t see each other for a really long time? Can we just talk about that?”

Burns acknowledges that his departure was “kind of abrupt,” but he got to go to college, and “now I am literally doing many of the things that I wanted to do.” He also marvels at how far his viewers have come in the years since he last saw them: They started out with clues, and now they have “student loans and jobs and families, and some of it has been kind of hard, right?” But “I really couldn’t have done all that without your help,” he says, adding “I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years I never forgot you,” Burns said. “Ever.”

Burns hosted the show from its premiere in 1996 until his departure in 2002, which was explained by his character leaving for college. He was replaced by Donovan Patton as Steve’s younger brother Joe. Joshua Dela Cruz hosts the current iteration of the series on Nick Jr., Blue’s Clues and You!

The three hosts last came together in 2019 for the premiere episode of Blue’s Clues and You!

The original Blue’s Clues series launched on Sept. 8, 1996 and ran for six seasons. Created by Traci Paige Johnson, Todd Kessler and Angela C. Santomero, Blue’s Clues earned nine Emmy nominations and has remained one of the most popular preschool shows of all time.

Nickelodeon’s 25th anniversary celebration includes a feature-length Blue’s Clues & You! movie, a birthday-themed TV special set to air Sept. 17, an original music video directed by Burns featuring all three hosts and a partnership with the nonprofit organization Save the Children. You can read more about Nick's #BluesClues25 celebrations here.

You can catch new episodes of Blue’s Clues & You on Nickelodeon, and you can find the classic Blue’s Clues on Paramount+ and Noggin. Parents and caregivers can try Paramount+ for FREE at ParamountPlus.com.

Steve From Blue's Clues Has a Message For You! 💙 | NickRewind #Shorts

If you can get through this video without tearing up... you're lying.  In celebration of the Blue's Clues 25th Anniversary, our old pal Steve has dropped by with a message for all of the kids (now adults!) that grew up with him solving Blue's Clues and Skidoo-ing all over!

“You remember how when we were younger, we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and freak out about the mail and do all the fun stuff?” Burns says in the video. “And then one day, I was like, ‘Oh hey, guess what? Big news, I’m leaving. Here’s my brother Joe, he’s your new best friend,’ and then I got on a bus and I left and we didn’t see each other for like a really long time? Can we just talk about that? Because I realize that was kind of abrupt.”

“I just kind of got up and went to college,” Burns continues. “And that was really challenging by the way, but great because I got to use my mind and take a step at a time and now I literally am doing many of the things that I wanted to do.” (A nice reference to the song Burns sang during every episode.)

After explaining his decision to leave, Burns then directs his attention to the people who used to watch him ... like him, now much older (Burns is 47, although he doesn’t look much older than when he hosted).

“And then look at you, and look at all you have done, and all you have accomplished in all that time. And it’s just, it’s just so amazing, right?” Burns says. “I mean, we started out with clues and now, it’s what? Student loans and jobs and families? And some of it has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know.

“I wanted to tell you that I really couldn’t have done all of that without your help. And in fact, all the help that you helped me with when we were younger is still helping me today, right now. And that’s super cool. I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years, I never forgot you. Ever. And I’m super glad we’re still friends.”

As a walkoff, Burns offers a compliment to those watching.

“You look great by the way. Whatever it is you’re doing, it’s working.”

The original real reason Steve gave from leaving is because he was going bald. Earlier this year it finally came out that a major motivator for Burns to leave the show was due to an interest in pursuing a music career (with Flaming Lips producer David Fridmann and drummer Steve Drozd).

Netflix will bow Sharkdog, a brand new animated series from Singaporean creator Jacinth Tan on Friday, September 3! The 20 x 7 minute episode animated series is produced by ViacomCBS International Studios, in partnership with Singaporean based CGI animation studio One Animation.

Sharkdog follows 10 year old Max and his best friend Sharkdog - half shark, half dog, all appetite. Blissfully unaware of his own strength, stealth and general sharkiness, Sharkdog often leaves a trail of chaos in his wake. But, like all good half-dogs, he's Max's BFF and Max is his.

Sharkdog is VIS' first internationally originated global animated series for Netflix. It is also the first animated series from Singapore to come out of Nickelodeon's Global Animated Shorts Program, designed to identify and develop long form original comedy-driven content for kids globally.

The first 7 episodes of Sharkdog released are:

Fins in the Water / Home Sweet Sharkdog / Unfetch: Max meets Sharkdog and finds a new best friend. Sharkdog's a handful — how will Max keep him a secret? Sharkdog fetches the wrong things around town.

Shark Marks the Spot / The Fishers Go Fishing / Hide-and-Go-Shark: Max, Royce and Sharkdog hunt for pirate treasure. Sharkdog shakes a great white shark away from the Fishers. Sharkdog spooks the fish at the aquarium.

It is the latest agreement between a ViacomCBS company and Netflix. Last year, Nickelodeon and Netflix struck an output deal that will yield original animated feature films and TV series based on existing Nickelodeon library characters as well as newly created ones. Prior to the agreement, Netflix ordered forthcoming specials based on The Loud House (premiering August 20) and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The deal builds on a relationship that has brought animated specials Rocko’s Modern Life: Static ClingInvader Zim: Enter the Florpus and Glitch Techs to Netflix. Netflix is also producing a live-action version of Nickelodeon's beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Prior to Netflix ordering Sharkdog, Nickelodeon International announced in 2017 that it had greenlit a series of 90-second shorts based on the characters, which premiered as a short-form digital series for the Nickelodeon Play App in Asia.

Sharkdog was the first Singaporean series to come out of Nickelodeon's Global Animated Shorts Program. But it’s in good company, as several animated shorts from Nick’s program have turned into full fledged series recently. This includes Toronto-based prodco Nelvana’s 26 x 22-minute animated series Ollie’s Pack, which began as an original short dubbed Monster Pack for Nickelodeon’s 2013 Animated Shorts Program; The Loud House, also from the 2013 Animated Shorts Program; and It’s Pony, which was part of Nick’s 2015 Global Animated shorts program.

Young Carmel actor gets voice role in ‘Sharkdog’

Liam Mitchell performs in a TV series in the comfort of his Carmel home.

Mitchell plays the boy, Max, who finds “Sharkdog,” a half dog, half shark, in an animated series of shorts produced by Nickelodeon. It debuts Sept. 3 on Netflix.

Mitchell, who is in the seventh grade at St. Louis de Montfort in Fishers, was cast in the series after participating in a summer camp in Ohio in 2019.

The camp was hosted by Greg James, who has many connections in the talent industry in Los Angeles.

“At the end of the camp, he flies out managers, casting directors and agents from Los Angeles,” Mitchell said. “The kids put on a showcase, and after the showcase the managers, agents and directors may offer to sign you. I had several offers at the end but ended up selecting The Savage Agency and Heyman Talent.”

Mitchell is represented by the Savage Agency in Los Angles for his role in “Sharkdog.” The agent sends Mitchell auditions, which he does by tape. He was offered the role on ‘Sharkdog’ in November 2020 and started working on it shortly thereafter.

“Nickelodeon sends me everything I need to record,” Mitchell said. “My dad built a recording studio in a closet in our basement. I work once a week for about 2 to 3 hours. I get on a Zoom with the sound team in L.A. and I record my lines with them.”

Mitchell has recorded 20 or 21 episodes for the first season, plus a Halloween special. He is working on Season 2 now.

“I love that Max is kind of really like me,” Mitchell said. “He has a love for animals and seems to always be getting himself out of tricky situations. Not only will kids love the show, adults will, too. They are 7-minute shorts so they can captivate the attention of the littlest viewers, but the adventures that Max and Sharkdog have are fun for adults, too.”

From WTHR:

Carmel voice actor lands leading role in Netflix animated series

The first season of "Sharkdog" is now streaming on Netflix.

CARMEL, Ind. — Carmel seventh-grader Liam Mitchell landed his first big role late last year in the new Netflix series "Sharkdog."

He plays Max, the owner of a half-dog, half-shark pet.

"I use Max as my own self. I just up the energy, and Max is me," Liam said.

Liam has always been an actor and landed an agent in Los Angeles after attending an acting camp. From there, he landed a lead role on "Sharkdog."

"I was just super excited. I didn't really know what to expect. I had never done something this large," Liam said.

"You submit so many opportunities, and you're looking for one to land. Sometimes, the one you don't expect to land lands, which is what happened here. It's much more impactful," said Liam's father, Will.

Liam isn't recording from a flashy studio in Los Angeles — his voice work in the Netflix series is done from a tiny closet in the basement of his Carmel home.

Although it's tight, it gets the job done. Now, Liam is reaching audiences everywhere.

Carmel seventh-grader Liam Mitchell records voiceover work in a tiny closet in the basement of his home.

"It didn't really sink in until I saw the trailer," Liam said. "Once I saw the trailer, I was just in awe. Like, that's me? That's who I am? And once I saw the cast list had my name, I was just completely in awe."

"To have something that is as mainstream as this, with Netflix and Nickelodeon collaborating, for him to get that opportunity, I think we were blown away," Will said. "We expected stuff much more localized initially, but to get this opportunity has been a God-given gift."

The first season of "Sharkdog" is now streaming on Netflix.
