The Legend of Korra: Patterns in Time: Dark Horse Comics to Celebrate Show's 10th Anniversary With New Anthology

The 80-page anthology features new stories set in the world of the beloved animated series.


The Legend of Korra, the beloved animated series and follow-up to Avatar: The Last Airbender, kicked off it’s four-season run in April of 2012, and next year marks the show’s 10th anniversary.

Dark Horse Comics is commemorating the occasion with a new anthology of stories set in the world of the series. The Legend of Korra: Patterns in Time featuring stories from writers Kiku Hughes, Delilah S. Dawson, Rachel Silverstein, and series co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino, as well as artists Heather Campbell, Jayd Aït-Kaci, Sam Beck, KaiJu, Alexandria Monik, Victoria Ying, and colorist Killian Ng. Sachin Teng provides the book’s cover artwork.

Like Avatar: The Last Airbender — Team Avatar Tales, this is a mix of new stories and a few previous Free Comic Book Days stories (namely 2016’s "Friends for Life," 2018’s "Lost Pets," and 2021’s "Clearing The Air"). It’s an eighty-page comic though, so most of it is going to be new material.

Patterns in Time is the latest The Legend of Korra release from Dark Horse Comics. In addition to a series of artbooks dedicated to all four seasons of the animated series, the publisher has also released the three-part Turf Wars and Ruins of the Empire series, canonical follow-up graphic novels that pick up threads left at the end of the series. Both of those books are available in deluxe library editions. During the pandemic Dark Horse has also hosted a number of live-readings from the books featuring original Legend of Korra voice-actors Janet Varney, Seychelle Gabriel, and others.

With a cover price of $12.99, the 80-page The Legend of Korra: Patterns in Time anthology is set to arrive in stores on April 12th, 2022.

SpongeBob's Voice Nearly Sounded VERY Different

When SpongeBob SquarePants was being pitched by Stephen Hillenburg, Nickelodeon made a few requests for the show. One of them surrounded SpongeBob himself, who was preferred to have a celebrity actor taking on the role. Stephen Hillenburg ended up fighting for Tom Kenny, who he had worked with on Rocko's Modern Life, instead!

Since "Help Wanted", Hillenburg's vision of SpongeBob had remained the same. Throughout development for the show, he heard the voices in his head and casted the characters based entirely on that. Whether it be SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Sandy or Plankton, each character had a distinct voice. Hillenburg did whatever he could to keep his vision alive.

SpongeBob SquarePants voice actors Tom Kenny and Rodger Bumpass gave a panel at LA Comic Con 2021 to discuss this show that appeals to children and adults, their experiences and their careers.

Tom Kenny is SpongeBob SquarePants in the show and movie, but is also known for Star Trek: Lower Decks, Kid Cosmic, Rick and Morty, CatDog, American Dad, DuckTales, Where’s Waldo? and more.

Rodger Bumpass plays Squidward Tentacles in SpongeBob SquarePants, and is also known for Teen Titans Go, Doc McStuffins, ChalkZone, Invader ZIM, The Kids from Room 402 and many more.
