'Double Dare' Host Marc Summers Reveals Bad News for the Reboot

After 500 episodes of Double Dare, it looks like the series may be done for good. Catching up with long-time host Marc Summers at 90s Con this past weekend, ComicBook.com's Chris Killian got the scoop on when fans can expect more of the classic Nickelodeon gameshow. As it turns out, Summers says there may never be another new episode of the show.

"I was told they will never, ever do it again" Summers told Killian. "But there are over 300 episodes on Paramount+ of Double Dare, so you can see me 24/7 there. Apparently a lot of people do, because the checks are pretty good."

First debuting in 1986, the first iteration ran for a staggering 482 episodes between 1986 and 1993. After an extended hiatus, a revival of the show was launched for one season of 67 episodes in 2000 and another iteration between 2018 and 2019. The initial batch of episodes was hosted in entirety by Summers while Double Dare 2000 was hosted by Jason Harris. Liza Koshy then hosted Double Dare 2018, with Summers returning as both executive reporter and on-field host.

Summers also recently had a prominent role in The Orange Years: The Nickelodeon Story, a documentary looking back at the channel's 90s-era programming.

The official synopsis for the film reads: "For millions of children and adults, the Nickelodeon Network is synonymous with growing up. In just a few years, the channel grew from a small local channel to an international phenomenon that helped shape a generation. Led by trailblazing visionary Geraldine Laybourne and her commitment to putting kids first, a group of unconventional heroes turned an underdog channel into an $8 billion dollar juggernaut as the golden standard for children's programming."

The Orange Years is now streaming on Hulu while an extensive Double Dare library, and other 90s-era Nickelodeon hits, can be seen on Paramount+. Try Paramount+ for FREE at ParamountPlus.com.

Paramount Global’s streaming service Paramount+ will launch its first mobile-only plan in Brazil and Mexico on April 18. The “Basic Plan” will allow subscribers to stream content on one mobile device or tablet at a time, uninterrupted and without ads.

“This new offering is part of our broader strategy to scale Paramount+. Paramount Global noted that content consumption habits were quickly evolving everywhere, and that mobile in particular was growing in Latin America. In Mexico, the Paramount+ mobile-only service will be prized at 79 pesos a month (US$4.18), or 709 a year (US$37.48). The streamer had launched in the country with that same monthly price for its standard service, but that has since been raised to 109 pesos, with the annual subscription now coming in at 979 pesos. Meanwhile, in Brazil, the same plan will be available for 14.90 reais per month (US$2.82), or 133.90 per year (US$25.36). The standard service there costs 19.90 reais monthly, or 178.90 reais per year.

Paramount+ offers exclusive originals, films and series from its parent company’s brands and production studios, including Paramount Pictures, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon and Showtime. Paramount+ originals include iCarly, the sci-fi hit Halo, Yellowstone, 1923, Tulsa King, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, and the hit supernatural series Wolf Pack, among many other titles.

In Latin America, the service also offers live sports content in select markets, including the English Premier League in Mexico and Central America, CONMEBOL Libertadores and CONMEBOL Sudamericana in Brazil, which will also be available to stream through the mobile-only price tier.

In additional Paramount+ news, a Paramount+ app is now available to download on LG Smart TVs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Toybox Inks SpongeBob Licensing Agreement With Paramount

The 3D printing company is adding the cast of SpongeBob SquarePants to its catalogue of printable toys, which features more than 3,000 designs.

LA’s Toybox Labs has signed a licensing deal with Paramount Consumer Products to develop a new range of printable toys for its namesake 3D printer.

Update (3/21/23) - Are You Ready Kids? Get ready for some nautical fun! SpongeBob, Patrick, and more, are heading to Toybox March 31st!

The Paramount partnership will result in 3D prints based on popular characters and environments from Nickelodeon’s beloved SpongeBob SquarePants franchise. The range is slated to launch in September 2022.

The Toybox 3D printer allows kids to design and print more than 3,000 toys, including space ships, action figures, swords and animals. It retails for US$379 on the company’s online store, where users can also purchase printable licensed characters from kids series including 2D-animated comedies Adventure Time and Teen Titans Go!

Toybox signed its first licensing deal in 2020, partnering with London-based Beano Studios to develop prints for Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed. The company followed up in 2021 with two more agreements, one with Warner Bros. Consumer Products for DC Comics and Cartoon Network characters, and another with LA-based animation studio Bureau of Magic for CG-animated fantasy series Lost in Oz.

Toybox has also signed a deal with Universal to release a line of unique 8-Bit designs featuring Illumination’s Minions IP. This range is also expected to be released in September.

More than 2.4 million toys were made using the Toybox 3D printer in 2021, and the company expects that number to double this year, said CEO Ben Baltes in a release.

Hasbro is also attempting to break into the 3D printing market by collaborating with Massachusetts-based Formlabs on a range of Selfie Series action figures that will be out this fall. Kids can use a Hasbro Pulse mobile app to create a 3D print of their own head and then place it on the body of a Ghostbuster, an X-Wing pilot, or a Power Ranger. The customized figure kits will retail for US$60.
