The movie, coming to theaters and Paramount+ this fall, will see the PAW Patrol get super powers after coming in contact with a magical meteor.

While the movie will introduce a new villain named Victoria Vance, the synopsis also promises that "Humdinger breaks out of jail," suggesting that in the world of the movie, the series' main antagonist has been in custody following his first shenanigans in Adventure City in PAW Patrol: The Movie.

Here's the film's official synopsis:

"When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The MIGHTY PUPS! For Skye, the smallest member of the team, her new powers are a dream come true. But things take a turn for the worse when the pups' archrival Humdinger breaks out of jail and teams up with Victoria Vance, a meteor-obsessed mad scientist, to steal the superpowers and turn themselves into supervillains. With the fate of Adventure City hanging in the balance, the Mighty Pups have to stop the supervillains before it's too late, and Skye will need to learn that even the smallest pup can make the biggest difference."

Mckenna Grace takes on the role of Skye, the 7-year-old cockapoo with the power of flight and strength in PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie. She replaces Lilly Bartlam from the series and first film. Grace is most known for her roles in films like Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I, Tonya, and Captain Marvel, and the sitcom Young Sheldon, and will soon be seen in Ghostbusters: Firehouse.

Taraji P. Henson takes on the role of Victoria Vance, a meteor expert and the female villain who teams up with Mayor Humdinger. Henson is set to feature in the much-anticipated coming-of-age tale The Color Purple. On the heroic side, Marsai Martin, who is most known for her role on black-ish, returns as Liberty, the lively long-haired dachshund who was part of the PAW Patrol in Adventure City and leads the Junior Patrollers with her incredible Mighty Pup power of elasticity. Martin previously portrayed Liberty in the first film.

Christian Convery, best known for Sweet Tooth, takes the lead as Chase, the brave and independent 7-year-old German shepherd with the Mighty Pup power of super speed, replacing Luke Dietz from the series and Iain Armitage from the first film. Adding to the fun, Chris Rock joins the adventure as a unique version of Rubble, now a member of the Kitten Catastrophe Crew, who gains the ability to speak after getting his paws on a meteor fragment.

While the upcoming sequel features other big names, such as Kristen Bell, James Marsden, and even Serena Williams, the Kardashians are making a full sweep in PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie. In addition to Kim Kardashian, who will be returning as the sassy poodle Delores, Kim’s two children are set to make an appearance. North West stars as Mini, a Pomeranian who is one of the Junior Patrollers, and Saint West in an undisclosed role.

The upcoming film will see the return of animation director Cal Brunker, who has previously directed PAW Patrol: The Movie and Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature. The movie's screenplay was written by Cal Brunker and Bob Barlen, both of whom also wrote the first one. Both Brunker and Barlen also worked on the story for the new film, alongside Shane Morris. Leading the production team are Jennifer Dodge, President of Spin Master Entertainment, along with Laura Clunie, Senior Vice President of Development and Feature Film at Spin Master, and Toni Stevens, Senior Vice President of Entertainment Production & Operations at Spin Master, who will serve as producers for the film. Taking on the executive producer roles are Ronnen Harary, Co-Founder of Spin Master, Adam Beder, Executive Vice President at Spin Master, and Peter Schlessel.

In their press release, Dodge quotes:

“We loved telling a deeper PAW Patrol story on a bigger canvas and are pleased that the movie connected so strongly with kids and families around the world,” said Jennifer Dodge, Spin Master Entertainment’s President. “Judging by the exit polls, audience scores and positive critical reception, everyone had as much fun watching it, and rewatching it, as we did making it. We’re looking forward to taking kids on a new adventure in the second film with our partners and can’t wait to further expand our storytelling with one of the fan-favorite pups in our spin-off.”

Nickelodeon NFT Provider Recur to Shut Down

Recur is the latest NFT-centered firm with big-name partnerships to announce its platform is shutting down.

Nickelodeon NFTs by Recur

The non-fungible token (NFT) startup Recur announced on Friday (Aug. 18) that its Web3 platform is winding down—unable to weather the chills of crypto winter despite hosting the IP of several big brands such as Paramount's Nickelodeon and Star Trek and Sanrio's Hello Kitty.

Over the next several months, Recur’s platform will steadily lose its core features, the firm said in a blog post. That includes the ability for users to withdraw NFTs from Recur, cash out stablecoin balances, and trade collectibles on Recur-hosted marketplaces.

“This decision has not been an easy one,” the company said on Twitter, citing “unforeseen challenges and shifts in the business landscape.”

Recur’s announcement captures recent headwinds in the NFT space as companies navigate a downturn in the popularity of digital collectibles. Last July, Recur embarked on a “jet-setting NFT experience” with Hello Kitty and Friends, only for its ambitions to be grounded a little more than a year later.

That same July, Recur noted there was “unprecedented demand” for its TV Packs that contained profile-picture (PFP) NFTs of Nickelodeon characters like Tommy Pickles from Rugrats and Arnold Shortman from Hey Arnold!. These were followed up by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NFTs. Nickelodeon NFTs were sold through Nickelodeon.xyz, a sister site of Paramount.xyz. Pack openings will be disabled in November, Recur said on Friday.

Founded in 2021, Recur billed itself as a company that offers other businesses Web3 “building blocks.” Its platform could be used for creating in-game assets, loyalty programs, and digital collectibles that leverage NFTs, according to its website.

Recur’s move comes not long after Nifty’s, a social network turned Web3 creators portal, also said it was shutting down. Nifty’s had secured big-name media titles as partners too, such as The Matrix and Game of Thrones.

With over 380,000 NFTs minted through Recur, the firm said it has changes in store to ensure that various digital collectibles will live on.

Recur said metadata and media for its NFTs will be migrated to the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), a peer-to-peer file-sharing network built by Protocol Labs. Other assets will be hosted on Filecoin’s network, Recur added.

In December 2021, Recur offered a Recur Pass during a limited, 24-hour sales window. Sold as an NFT for $300, the pass could be resold and offered holders early access to future NFT drops among other benefits.

Last February, a Recur Pass sold for $88,888, Recur said in a statement on Twitter. Today, the cheapest Recur Pass listed on OpenSea currently asks for 0.001 ETH (about $1.69).

In late 2021, Recur said it was valued at $333 million after it announced a $50 million Series A funding round. The round was led by Digital, an investment fund backed by the family office of New York Mets majority owner and billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen.

Other notable names had participated in a $5 million seed funding round earlier that year, such as investor and NFT creator Gary Vaynerchuk, Gemini’s Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, and Ethereum co-founder and ConsenSys founder Joe Lubin.

In addition to Recur, Funko has also released a range of Nickelodeon NFTs.
