Nickelodeon to Premiere 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' During Q1, 2024
Nickelodeon is slated to premiere the network's upcoming animated series, Rock, Paper, Scissors, during the first quarter of 2024 ()! The news was announced by Kari Kim, Vice President (VP), Animation Development, Nickelodeon Animation during The World Animation Summit in Los Angeles.
The news follows Nickelodeon releasing clips and full episodes of the series on YouTube.
Kim also revealed that her team are currently finishing up the animated series, and that Nickelodeon Animation currently has more than 50 productions in development, including a revamp of Dora the Explorer and PAW Patrol. The creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender are also back at the studio, but Kim says she couldn't go into detail about what’s coming from them. Watch this space.
Rock, Paper, Scissors (20 episodes) brings the iconic childhood game to life! This character-driven comedy follows the hilarious shenanigans of roommates Rock, Paper, and Scissors on their hijinks and ridiculous adventures. Rock, the moral compass of the group, is always struggling at his dream of becoming a model; Paper is an inventor and the brains of the group (if by “brains” you mean “making stuff that’s always blowing up”); and Scissors is the wannabe cool guy whose ego brings an endless fountain of chaos to these three friends. No matter how much they compete and mess with each other, at the end of the day, they will always bond over their shared love of one thing: wacky nonsense.
Rock, Paper, Scissors is the first finalized short to be greenlit for series from Nickelodeon's inaugural Intergalactic Shorts Program,
"We knew we were onto something special with creators Kyle Stegina and Josh Lehrman and their hilarious characters in Rock, Paper, Scissors, which we are so proud to bring to series," said Nickelodeon/Paramount Animation President Ramsey Naito. "Finding and growing talent through the process of pitch to hit is what powers our Intergalactic Shorts Program, and we can't wait to get started finding the next great creator in animation through our program's just-launched second phase."
The original Rock, Paper, Scissors short and series are created, written, and executive produced by Kyle Stegina (Robot Chicken) and Josh Lehrman (Robot Chicken), with Conrad Vernon (Sausage Party) and Bob Boyle (The Fairly OddParents) serving as executive producers on the series.
Nickelodeon unveiled the sneak peek of Rock, Paper, Scissors as part of the launch of the brand's Intergalactic Shorts Program 2.0, which is searching for new and diverse creators from across the globe, focusing on new voices and nurturing their vision for original comedy-driven content with an eye toward representation.
Through the 2022 Program, Nickelodeon will accept ideas from a global pool of storytellers and creative visionaries including artists, writers, and directors. Shorts will run on Nickelodeon's platforms and are in the process of being developed into long-form animated series.
Shorts should feature one-of-a-kind, character-driven comedy and surprising storytelling, combining humor with action-adventure, mystery, sci-fi, and more. In line with Nickelodeon's mission to make the best, original humor-driven content for kids, these creator-driven shorts offer content that is appealing to all members of the family, featuring a co-viewing lens of preschool (K 2-5) and big kids (K 6-11).
Nickelodeon's Intergalactic Shorts Program launched in June 2019 and was overseen by Kari Kim, Vice President, Animation Development, Nickelodeon Animation, with Conrad Vernon serving as the program's executive producer and Paul Watling (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) as co-executive producer. Daniel Wineman, Vice President, Animation Development, Nickelodeon Animation and Chris Rose, Vice President, Production & Development, Kids & Family, Global will oversee the 2022 Intergalactic Shorts Program 2.0.

‘PAW Patrol' Partners with Calm on New Audio Series
Relaxation app will feature PAW Patrol content exclusive to the app.

Paramount Consumer Products and Calm, a mental health brand for sleep, relaxation and meditation, will create an exclusive collection of PAW Patrol content.
Available now on Calm as part of the Calm Kids library, the original audio series is narrated by PAW Patrol’s pups, Chase, Marshall, Rubble, Skye, Zuma and Rocky. The PAW Patrol content is available in English to Calm’s global subscriber base and aims to encourage a relaxed bedtime routine and aid a restful night’s sleep.
Kicking off the new series is a sleep story, “Rubble’s Dream Adventure,” along with three meditations – “Dig Out of It,” “I’m Okay!” and “Preparing for a Mission” – designed to calm children’s worries by teaching breathing techniques, sensory awareness practice and provide reassurance that it’s okay to make mistakes.
“This first collaboration between PAW Patrol and Calm marks the beginning of a special partnership which aims to help ease the wind-down routine at bedtime, whilst providing young children with valuable tools to navigate their worries and empower them to embrace daily adventures with joy and ease,” says Rebecca Jenkins, Senior Director, Retail and New Business, Consumer Products, Paramount U.K. “What better way to engage them in this than through their favorite PAW Patrol pups.”

2023 marks the 10-year anniversary of PAW Patrol, which is produced by Spin Master Entertainment. The series is broadcast in over 180 territories and 30 languages.
