Hasbro Enhances Licensed Products Offerings With Icecat

Hasbro and Icecat have collaborated on creating product content for licensed brands Peppa Pig, My Little Pony and Transformers.

Hasbro Enhances Licensed Products Offerings With Icecat

Leading toy and game company Hasbro has announced a collaboration with content service provider, Icecat, on creating product content for product pages for licensed brands, such as Peppa PigMy Little Pony and Transformers

Hasbro has been working together with content service provider Icecat since 2021 to syndicate its product content in multiple countries. Product content for Hasbro’s brands is available for its channel partners on the Icecat platform, free of charge.

Hasbro has now enhanced its licensed product offerings with Icecat Enhanced Product Stories. An Enhanced Product Story is a below-the-fold content page with a custom layout of multimedia and messaging assets that give the best product experience to an online shopper. These dynamic Product Stories contain a wide selection of multimedia assets, for example, a Product Story can include videos, feature logos, explanations, 3D objects, hot spots and an image gallery.

The enhancement of licensed products Peppa Pig, My Little Pony and Transformers helps brand owners create a better online experience, resulting in increased revenue. Integrating an Enhanced Product Story for channel partners is easy – by just adding a few lines of JavaScript to a product page. A recent case study by Icecat and Disney with licensed Marvel products, where Hasbro was involved, showcased that when Product Stories are integrated on a product page, conversion can grow by 11% and revenue by 34%.

“I have observed a growing inclination among brand owners to empower their licensees by enriching online product pages through Icecat Enhanced Product Stories,” added René Rozendal, director Toys and Entertainment at Icecat. “As a result, our user network is steadily expanding. More importantly, we have the capability to establish a comprehensive database for brand owners, allowing them to monitor the online presence of its products effectively.”

In additional news, McFarlane Toys has announced an exciting, multi-brand licensing agreement with Hasbro, adding Transformers, Power Rangers, G.I. Joe and Dungeons & Dragons to their Page Punchers line-up. Kicking off with Transformers and G.I. JOE products, each Page Puncher will include a full comic book and two articulated figures.

Hasbro Launches Entertainment Division

Hasbro is launching a new division called Hasbro Entertainment, which will unify the company’s film, television, animation, and digital media businesses.

Olivier Dumont will serve as president of Hasbro Entertainment, while Zev Foreman and Gabriel Marano will serve as the head of film and head of television, respectively. All three are joining Hasbro Entertainment from Entertainment One (eOne), which Hasbro recently sold to Lionsgate.

“We are thrilled to embark on this new chapter, building upon our rich heritage of storytelling to continue delighting audiences across generations,” Dumont said. “Gabe, Zev, and I look forward to working with the industry’s best creative talent, studios, and distribution platforms to push the envelope with innovative storytelling that will let fans engage with their favorite brands like never before, while also building exciting new worlds and the next wave of Hasbro franchises for a growing audience.”

Dumont most recently served as president of family brands for eOne. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing content creation and distribution for the combined portfolio of Hasbro and eOne’s family brands, driving over $2 billion of annual retail sales. Previously, Dumont held roles in domestic and international children’s entertainment, including heading acquisitions and co-production for a major kids’ network, leading an animation studio, and managing a distribution business.

Foreman and Marano were primarily focused on Hasbro IP projects while at eOne and will continue this work in their new roles directly for Hasbro.

Foreman served as president of film production for eOne, overseeing projects like Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. His other film credits include All the Old Knives, Blue Beetle, Blue Bayou, and Dallas Buyers Club.

Marano was co-head of scripted development for eOne. He worked on the development of projects like the Dungeons & Dragons series in the works at Paramount+ from Rawson Marshall Thurber and Drew Crevello as well as Netflix’s Power Rangers series from Jonathan Entwistle and Jenny Klein. Previously, Marano served as senior vice president of drama programming and development at Fox Entertainment. In that role, he worked on shows including 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Gifted, and Lucifer. Earlier in his career, Marano was with A&E Network and Fox Television Studios.

Hasbro is currently developing and producing over two dozen projects based on major IP like Dungeons & Dragons, Transformers, GI JOE, NERF, Play-Doh, Magic: The Gathering, Peppa Pig, and My Little Pony.

Hasbro to Sell eOne Film & TV Business to Lionsgate

Hasbro Retains Entertainment for Priority Brands, Aligned with Strategy

PAWTUCKET, R.I.--August 03, 2023--Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ:HAS) a leading toy and game company, today announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to sell its eOne film and TV business to Lionsgate for approximately $500 million, consisting of $375 million in cash, subject to certain purchase price adjustments, and the assumption by Lionsgate of production financing loans. The transaction has been approved by both companies’ Boards of Directors and remains subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals. Hasbro will use the proceeds to retire a minimum of $400 million of floating rate debt by the end of the year, and for other general corporate purposes. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2023.

The sale will include a talented team of employees, a content library of nearly 6,500 titles, active productions for non-Hasbro owned IP like The Rookie, Yellowjackets and Naked and Afraid franchises, and the eOne unscripted business, which will include rights for certain Hasbro-based shows like Play-Doh Squished. The eOne film and TV business being sold also includes Hasbro’s interest in the Canadian film & TV operations of Entertainment One Canada Limited, and the transaction has also been approved by Entertainment One Canada Limited’s Board of Directors.

Today’s announcement is the culmination of a rigorous sale process in connection with Hasbro’s recent strategic review and represents a significant milestone in Hasbro’s commitment to executing its Blueprint 2.0 strategy, which at its core is about significantly increasing investment in Hasbro’s priority brands. In addition to Hasbro’s animation efforts that include Peppa Pig, Transformers: EarthSpark, and My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale, the company will retain a focused team of creative development and business affairs experts to shepherd the 30+ Hasbro-based projects in development, working with the best studios and distribution platforms in Hollywood, including ongoing development of the TRANSFORMERS and GI JOE franchises, PLAY-DOH, D&D, MAGIC: THE GATHERING and Hasbro’s board game portfolio.

“This sale fully aligns with our strategy, and we are pleased to bring the process to a successful close,” said Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks. “Lionsgate’s management team is experienced in entertainment and adept at driving value, and we’re glad to have found such a good home for our eOne film & TV business. We look forward to partnering with them, especially on a movie adaptation of Monopoly.”

Mr. Cocks continued: “Entertainment remains a priority for Hasbro. Hasbro will continue to develop and produce entertainment based on the rich vault of Hasbro-owned brands. We will also bring to life new original ideas designed to fuel all areas of Hasbro’s blueprint including toys, publishing, gaming, licensed consumer products, and location-based entertainment. As part of the sale, we expect to move to an asset-lite model for future live action entertainment, relying on licensing and partnerships with select co-productions.”

J.P. Morgan and Centerview Partners served as lead financial advisors to Hasbro in the transaction. Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, Mayer Brown International LLP and Stikeman Elliott LLP are acting as legal counsel to Hasbro and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP are acting as legal counsel to Entertainment One Canada Limited.

Sambro Extends Hasbro Partnership With New Brands, Including Transformers

The new deal with Hasbro will see Transformers, My Little Pony and PJ Masks products join Sambro’s portfolio.


Sambro International has extended its rights with global branded entertainment leader, Hasbro, adding iconic brands to its growing product portfolio for the UK & EMEA region, including Transformers, My Little Pony and PJ Masks.

The global supplier of licensed and own brand children’s toys and entertainment has held a long-term contract with Hasbro since 2008. Since 2020, Sambro has distributed an extensive range of Peppa Pig arts & craft toys across Europe and the UK as well as plush across Europe.

This latest deal will see Sambro distribute numerous new product lines within the My Little Pony and Transformers franchises, with PJ Masks launching in 2024 across the UK and the heartland of Europe with a focus on Benelux, GSA, CEE, Nordics and France.

Since the success of the My Little Pony: A New Generation movie in 2021, the brand has continued to grow in popularity and Sambro has worked closely with Hasbro to meet this demand. The two companies have partnered to develop a collection of arts & craft toys and plush, designed with creative play in mind and aimed at children over the age of four.

The collection includes over 20 products, including creative toys such as Paint Your Owns; Lil’ Bodz plush featuring key characters such as Izzy and Sunny; and Sambro’s own uniquely designed Puzzle Palz and Bops n Tops novelty collectibles.

AW23 will also see the launch of Transformers toy collectibles and plush. This will include the addition of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, plus other characters, to Sambro’s successful, own-developed Lil Bodz family. These plush toys’ small bodies are paired with oversized heads and come with character sounds.

Tara Strong Talks Rugrats, Fairly OddParents, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and More

You might not know Tara Strong’s face, but you’d definitely recognize her voice. With more than 600 credits on her IMDB page, Strong is one of the more prolific voice actors working in Hollywood today, giving life to everyone from Rugrats’ Dil Pickles to Timmy Turner on Fairly OddParents., as well as characters such as Batgirl and Twilight Sparkle, the latter helping to bring My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic into fans’ hearts and lives. Strong even executive-produced a documentary about the deeply supportive Brony fandom.

As well as being behind the mic, Strong has also been popping up in front of the camera, portraying drug kingpin Tiggy Sullivan in the CBC police procedural Pretty Hard Cases. Strong also recently provided the voice of of Loki’s Miss Minutes, Strong lent charm and omniscient eeriness to the all-important office of the Time Variance Authority. The actor has stepped in front of the mic and camera with a fierce, take-no-prisoners attitude.

The A.V. Club recently talked to Strong about those roles, as well as a few of the hundreds of others she’s had over the course of her career so far, from Harley Quinn in Batman: Arkham City to Melody in Little Mermaid 2. Fairly OddParents (1998-2017)—“Timmy Turner”

AVC: Fairly OddParents [...] seems like one of those shows that, when you first went in, you probably didn’t think “I’m going to be doing this voice in 20 years.”

TS: You never really know. Sometimes you think, “This is going to be one season,” then it explodes. Sometimes you think, “This is going to go on forever” and then it ends.

For me, like the biggest example of that would be Sym-Bionic Titan by [Genndy] Tartakovsky. I thought that was going to go on forever. It was a brilliant, brilliant show. We had one season, so you just never know.

Certainly when I started Titans, I didn’t know I’d still be doing that show 20 years later with the same cast. We are a family, so that’s really beautiful.

AVC: There’s the sense that all the voice actors know each other and are very supportive and say, “If I can’t do the job, I know someone else who can.” “If I’m not the right voice, I’ll suggest Cree Summer.”

TS: She’s the number-one person I recommend for anything. We’ve known each other since I was 13. My very first job was Hello Kitty, and she was Catnip the bad cat. We both grew up in Toronto.

It’s a very collaborative world. It’s a very supportive world. It doesn’t matter what you look like, so compared to on camera work, you have fewer chances of catty behavior or backstabbing. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen. It does. It’s just rare.

Most people that work all the time recognize that there’s plenty for everyone, and we’re blown away by what our cohorts do. Every single time we’re in studio together, someone does something that I didn’t know that they could do. So, we all love each other.

It’s a very small group of people that work all the time. And we’re a family. We know whether everyone’s happy or sad or divorced or married or having kids. We’ve been through our lives together and we really are family.

AVC: How has the explosion of streaming changed the voiceover industry or the animation industry? Are there more opportunities to work out there now?

TS: I think, in terms of performance, it hasn’t changed anything because if you’re performing a role, you’re in character. You are that role. You don’t think, “Now I’m doing this for a video game” or “Now I’m doing this for a streaming network” or “Now I’m doing it for primetime.” You think, “I’m in the moment. I am this person.”

Contractually, things have changed, of course, and have to keep changing and will keep changing. I’m sure there’ll be a new contract for when cartoons are holographic in your living room. The business side of it will always change. The acting side, not so much.

Certainly during COVID it was a great opportunity for shows to really take off because people were home catching up on shows. It’s nice to be able to binge something and watch something.

It’s certainly very exciting that all the major streaming platform now carry animation because, as we know, animation has no age. There are fans at Comic-Con that I meet that are in baby strollers and there are fans that are in their 80s and 90s. So, it’s nice to have plenty of places for people to go and watch some really good animation.

Rugrats (1997-present)—“Dil Pickles”

AVC: Speaking of changes, Rugrats is back. You were brought onto that show a few seasons in, when it was already pretty popular. How has your ride with Rugrats been?

TS: I remember when I first moved to L.A., it was one of the shows I really wanted to do because the animation was so fascinating and unique and beautiful.

I first joined the cast as this kid named Timmy McNulty and his little brother. We were in the park with Angelica and her babies, and I was a bully to the babies. So, we kind of had this love-hate relationship and it was really fun.

They initially brought me in to guide track baby Dil. What that means is they’ll bring in a skilled voice actor to lay down some stuff so that they can start production and then bring in some big on camera celebrity. I had heard that they wanted Madonna to be baby Dil.

I had just gotten off a plane and I had to do some baby screaming and I started wailing and they stopped tape. I thought, “Oh, gosh, maybe they don’t like me.” But they said, “Tara, there’s a new mom in the booth and you made her lactate.” So I got to keep my job.

It was really fun. The first few seasons my lines were all in the stage directions. It was like, “baby Dil grabs Tommy’s toy, hits him in the head, and poops.” [Makes sounds to that effect.] I would always have a really wet script, and it was fun.

That cast is so fantastic and we all love each other a lot. It’s pretty exciting that it’s back.

AVC: It’s a lot of cool women doing the voices of little kids.

TS: It’s some really dope ass, powerful, strong women who have the ability to manipulate their voices and become these other characters.

Typically, if you’re going to hire a little boy, you have to worry about school. You have to worry about their voices changing and they do. With women, if we can accurately sound like a little boy, there’s no risk of our voices changing and they don’t have to worry about school and different things like that. So it makes sense to hire women.

There are some men that can do a little boy voices, but more often than not, a woman is going on more authentically like a little boy. I think it has to do with how we’re built in our vocal cords and that we don’t have to make it too forced to sound like a little a little boy.

With little kids, boys and girls all sound like little girls anyway. So it’s quite the gift to be able to do that and then to get paid to be like a little boy, which I would never get to play a on camera. That’s the beautiful thing about voiceover: You get to play all these roles that you would never play on camera.

Strong also talked about the differences in voicing characters in western animation and dubbing voices in anime:

"When we do an original animated show—Powerpuff Girls, Fairly OddParents, Rugrats—we go first and then they animate to our voice, which of course allows the actor to be much more creative, because we can do anything and then they’ll animate it. When you have something that’s already done in another language, you have to dub it. It’s much more challenging because you have to fit the line in a certain time code, match the lip flaps and still do good acting. It’s meticulous work and it’s actually less pay generally. A lot of L.A. actors don’t even do it. When you get the chance to do something really great though, it’s pretty fantastic, and Miyazaki films for sure are. Oh my god. It was so cool to be a part of them."

And about working on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch movies:

"Sabrina was so much fun. I got to travel to Italy and Australia with Melissa Joan Hart and her family, who are just the most loving, supportive people."

Hunter Price Hasbro Distribution Deal With Bildo Launches with Peppa Pig

The Peppa Pig range will include role-play items, and future collections will range from Ricky Zoom and Play-Doh to My Little Pony.

Hunter Price International has announced a new strategic partnership with Bildo, one of Europe’s top toy manufacturers. Following the expansion of its EMEA licensing collaboration with Hasbro, which spans several evergreen Hasbro brands including Peppa Pig, Ricky Zoom, My Little Pony and Play-Doh, Bildo has granted Hunter Price the exclusive distribution rights of a range of role-play items high in values and quality, which will hit the UK market from this summer.


The partnership kicks of with Bildo’s Peppa Pig product offering. The range brings to life the brand’s strong play values for this ever-popular pre-school licence, which has already received strong support from retailers ahead of autumn/winter 2021. Key items within the range include play kitchens, tea trolleys, tea sets and learning blocks.

Richard Belford, sales director at Hunter Price, explained: “Peppa Pig is a true evergreen licence which continues to evolve and engage young children across all channels. To add such a heavyweight brand to our portfolio shows our commitment to providing the best offering for our retail partners. Our first collections will hit the market later this year, and we’re working closely with Bildo on future Hasbro ranges for 2022 that we know will really strike a chord with our retail partners, especially in a climate where value remains ever important.”

Toms Partners with Hasbro to License Shoes featuring Power Rangers, My Little Pony, Transformers and More

Footwear brand Toms has announced a licensing deal with Hasbro, Inc.!


Through a three-year strategic agreement, the shoe company will create a series of products — including shoes, apparel and eyewear — inspired by the toy maker’s portfolio of hit children’s and entertainment brands, including Power Rangers, Transformers, Candy Land, Monopoly, Tonka, My Little Pony and more.

“Toms is excited to announce our partnership with Hasbro, a classic brand that has touched many generations,” said Liza Doppelt, vice president, global brand marketing at Toms. “This long-term collaboration will launch in Fall 2020 and bring together the iconic Toms styles that give back with the nostalgia of childhood Hasbro favourites.

“The collection of fun footwear for men, women and children will be available at select global retailers.”

“We’re thrilled to work with Toms to provide fans of all ages a new way to engage with the Hasbro brands they love,” added Casey Collins, Hasbro’s GM and senior vice president, entertainment and licensing. “We know that our fans will appreciate the quality and care that Toms takes in the development of each of their designs, and we can’t wait to see people everywhere wearing the Hasbro x Toms collaboration!”

The first wave of Hasbro x Toms products will be available for fall 2020, with additional waves releasing over the next three years. The collaboration will include footwear in women’s, men’s and kids’ sizing. Styles will sell on Toms.com and through select retail channels.

Toms is well known for its charitable and philanthropic efforts, positively impacting more than 94 million lives through the giving of shoes, water and impact grants since the company's inception. The firm is excited to bring Hasbro into the one-for-one fold and continue its mission statement. With every purchase of the Hasbro x Toms collection, Toms will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need.

Earlier this year, the shoemaker expanded its existing relationship with Sesame Street to launch the new Sesame Street x TOMS collection (also part of the “One for One” program).

Last week, Hasbro entered an agreement to acquire Entertainment One for US$4 billion. Hasbro will take ownership of the company’s entire film and TV production slate, including hit kids IPs Peppa Pig and PJ Masks. It’s not yet clear if these properties will be part of the TOMS collaboration moving forward.
