Paramount Appoints Ruth Henriquez as VP of Products & Experiences for EMEA

Paramount has announced that Ruth Henriquez has joined the company as Vice President (VP) of Products & Experiences EMEA, gaining oversight of the Consumer Products, Publishing and Experiences businesses in the region.

In this role, Henriquez will lead growth across Paramount’s portfolio across the Europe, Middle East and Africa through licensing, retail, partnerships and experiential initiatives, while expanding market presence and strengthening connections between the company’s iconic brands and fans of all ages.

“Ruth is a dynamic leader who brings a powerful combination of creative and commercial expertise, with a proven ability to scale brands and unlock new opportunities across markets,” said Josh Silverman, President, Global Products & Experiences, Paramount. “Her ability to connect content, culture and commerce makes her uniquely positioned to help expand our Products & Experiences business across EMEA and globally.”

Henriquez joins Paramount from Mattel, where she held several senior leadership roles across marketing, consumer products and commercial strategy. Most recently, she led consumer products, publishing and location-based entertainment for EMEA across globally recognized brands including Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price and Thomas & Friends. She brings a strong track record of driving franchise growth, building strategic partnerships, developing high-performing teams and extending brands into new categories through toy, retail and fashion collaborations.

Based in the UK, Henriquez will report directly to Silverman.

Paramount Executives Tell Staff That Africa Offices and Channels May Close Amid International Strategy Review

Paramount's Africa leads Monde Twala and Craig Paterson told the teams in Johannesburg and Lagos that their roles could be impacted as the firm "evaluates its pay TV strategy and local channel footprint."

Paramount Global‘s Africa offices may close, local channels may be shuttered, and staffers’ roles could be impacted, company executives told employees in the region on Tuesday, July 22, sources familiar with the situation have told The Hollywood Reporter.

The company has been prioritizing investments in its growing streaming business and core global content as it navigates shifts in audience behavior and the macro-economic environment. As part of that, it is reviewing its international pay TV strategy and considering adjustments to its linear channel portfolio in international markets, with a focus on cable brands. Management has also signaled a focus on businesses and regions with the most opportunity for revenue growth.

As part of the restructuring, several Paramount channels are already known to be closing internationally by the end of the year, including: Nickelodeon channels TeenNick and NickMusic, along with MTV channels MTV 80s, MTV 90s, MTV 00s, MTV Hits, MTV Live, Club MTV, we well as Polsat Comedy Central Extra in Poland; and Teen Nick, Nick Music, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, MTV 00s, MTV Hits, MTV Live HD, and Club MTV in Hungary. Nickelodeon wise, this will leave Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and Nicktoons in these regions. However, in New Zealand, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr., along with MTV 80s, MTV Hits, and Comedy Central, are expected to shutter by the end of the year, as Paramount's programming partnership with Sky TV is set to expire.

In Africa, Nickelodeon channels available include Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., and Nicktoons, the latter of which carries a localised NickMusic programme.

Tuesday’s news comes as Paramount continues to wait for FCC approval of Skydance Media’s deal to acquire it, which has included a $16 million lawsuit settlement with President Trump. THR understands that Paramount has fewer than 100 employees in Africa between its offices in Johannesburg, South Africa and Lagos, Nigeria.

“We are at a point in our journey where we are facing immense industry disruption,” Monde Twala and Craig Paterson, co-general managers of Paramount Africa, said in a staff memo obtained by THR. “Our team is not immune to potential changes as our organization evaluates its pay TV strategy and local channel footprint here in Africa.”

In June, Paramount unveiled further U.S. workforce cuts to the tune of 3.5 percent, following a 15 percent reduction last year. As of the end of 2024, Paramount Global had 18,600 employees worldwide. Co-CEOs George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy and Brian Robbins said in a June memo that the focus was on U.S. headcount but the moves “may also result in some impacts to our workforce outside the U.S. over time.”

Twala and Paterson acknowledged in their staff memo: “Today was incredibly difficult. We want you to know your greatness is seen. We reach out with a heavy heart, but also with immense pride. Your dedication to excellence, creativity and passion for leveraging the power of our content have been the driving force behind our many accomplishments.”

They concluded: “We understand the coming weeks may be tough and feel unsettling. Through it all, please know your efforts are valued beyond measure.”

Grammy® Award-winning, multiplatinum global superstar Tyla is set to take the Slime-tastic stage as host of the biggest party this summer – the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2025. Airing on Wednesday 25 June at 17:00 CAT on Nickelodeon Africa (channel 305 on DStv) from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., the KCAs will celebrate fans’ favorites from across the worlds of film, television, music, sports and more.

Today’s news also included this year’s Kids’ Choice Awards nominees, with host Tyla receiving nominations in the Favorite Global Music Star and Favorite Music Collaboration categories.

First-time nominees include Gracie Abrams, Zach Bryan, Jordan Chiles, Frankie Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Doechii, Keith Lee, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, Shohei Ohtani, Florence Pugh, among others. Leading the pack with four nods each are Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar, followed by Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, Selena Gomez and Jelly Roll, with three nominations each. Musical performances will be announced later.

Speaking on Tyla hosting the KCAs, Monde Twala, Senior Vice President & Co-General Manager, Paramount Africa & Lead, BET International, said, “We are incredibly proud to see Tyla make history as the first African to host the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. The Kids’ Choice Awards broadcast continues to put kids and families in control at the biggest party of the summer. Beginning today, fans can cast their votes across 35 categories on the official Kids’ Choice Awards website, KidsChoiceAwards.com.

Ng'khaleli Dior hitmaker bags big gig

AMAPIANO star Zee Nxumalo is stepping into the spotlight as the official host of the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards (KCA) 2025 Pre-Show.

The show will air on NickToons (DStv channel 308) on 25 June. The pre-show, brought to you by Nedbank, will lead directly into the main awards show hosted by international music sensation Tyla.

The 22-year-old Zee is known for her vibrant energy and rising influence in the local music scene. Zee brings her signature style to the KCA stage after dropping a catchy amapiano remix of the iconic SpongeBob SquarePants theme song.

The remix, bursting with local flair, has quickly become a fan favourite and is expected to be a major moment during the awards festivities.

"I'm so honoured to be part of the KCAs this year. Hosting the pre-show and reimagining the SpongeBob theme song in amapiano has been such a fun experience. I can't wait for everyone to see what we've got in store!" said the Ng'khaleli Dior hitmaker.

Zee's involvement reflects a larger movement by Nickelodeon Africa and Nedbank to celebrate youth culture, spotlight local talent, and offer fun, creative experiences for kids across the continent.

This year's Kids' Choice Awards promises wild performances, surprise celebrity appearances, and the signature green slime.

Monde Twala, senior vice president and general manager of Paramount Africa, said: "We are proud to spotlight incredible African talent like Zee Nxumalo and Tyla on a global stage. Amapiano vocalist Zee Nxumalo has revealed that she has signed a major deal with Nickelodeon Africa!

Taking to social media, the Inja Ye Game star posted a humorous post about scoring a massive deal with the channel. Zee Nxumalo mistyped the channel and also asked for her followers' input on what language she should record the new song. "Just signed a deal with Nicholodean. They want me to do a song for SpongeBob. Must I make it in Zulu?" she asked on X (formally Twitter).

The first project under the partnership is "U’Spongé," a brand new song in which the iMali vocalist collaborated with Gino Brown, creating a F.U.N., upbeat track inspired by Nickelodeon's beloved animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants, sampling the show's iconic theme song. On X, Nxumalo posted a picture of the cover art, informing her followers that she has already dropped "U’Spongé".

In an interview with MTV Base, Zee Nxumalo said she was in disbelief when she got the call, but she had to make it work "When I got the call, I did not believe it. The pressure got worse because I was like 'how the hell am I gonna make a SpongeBob song!'" she exclaimed.

The singer then shared the recipe behind the song, saying she needed a good beat and her producer delivered. "The most important thing was the beat. Shoutout to the producer," she revealed. There is also a dance to go with the revamped song.

DStv Family Expands Kids’ Line-up with Nickelodeon, Nick Jr and DreamWorks

From 25 August 2025, DStv Family subscribers can look forward to even more fun-filled afternoons as Nickelodeon, Nick Jr, and DreamWorks join the package permanently.

This update is part of DStv’s plan to position Family as South Africa’s home of kids’ entertainment – offering more for households at no extra cost. DStv Family will now include all 14 DStv kids’ channel on live TV, plus even more to download or stream on DStv Stream. Parents can count on trusted, quality programming, while kids enjoy endless adventures and stories to spark their imagination.

“While our broader packaging review remains ongoing, our research shows that Family customers value kids’ content as much as they do local shows and movies,” says Byron du Plessis, CEO at MultiChoice South Africa. “By adding Nickelodeon, Nick Jr, and DreamWorks to the Family package alongside favourites like Cartoonito and Disney Channel, we are making DStv Family the undisputed Home of Kids Entertainment. Nickelodeon, Nick Jr and the DreamWorks aren’t just names, they are known in millions of households across South Africa and the globe. Nickelodeon has broadcast across sub‑Saharan Africa since 2008 and remains a mainstay of kids’ programming. Nick Jr launched in 2014 as a dedicated preschool channel in South Africa, complementing Nickelodeon by catering specifically to younger children with carefully curated shows.

From 29 September, catch the heartfelt laughs of Wylde Pak, following half-siblings Jack and Lily as navigate their new life together while helping out at their family’s pet business. They explore themes of culture, identity, and evolving family dynamics, supported by their parents and grandmother. The Thundermans Undercover serves up superhero sibling action with Phoebe, Max, and Chloe tackling threats in Secret Shores.

Over on Nick Jr, DORA, a brave and quick-witted seven-year-old Latin American girl, embarks on magical rainforest adventures with her mischievous monkey friend, Boots. And the beloved pups of PAW Patrol are always up for high-energy rescue missions.

On DreamWorks, kids can catch Baddies vs Goodies every Saturday and Sunday throughout August. Here, your heroes are only as good as your villains. Watch as favourite scheming Baddies and heroic Goodies go head-to-head in the ultimate battle of the ages, packed with traps, cunning plans, and rivalries galore. Featuring The Adventures of Puss in Boots, Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, and Home: Adventures of Tip and Oh!.

On Saturdays from 6 September, it’s the Hall of Heroes: a celebration of some of DreamWorks’ biggest theatrical stars, combining special shorts and feature-length stories from hit TV spin-offs. This includes specials from Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, Madagascar, and How to Train Your Dragon.

How to Watch  

Current DStv Family customers will automatically have access to DreamWorks, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr from 25 August – no action needed. New customers can sign up for DStv Family via the DStv website, MyDStv App, or nearest DStv service centre. DStv Family is available from R299 per month.

Customers can also take advantage of the current R499 retail special on the single view decoder available at leading retailers, which has been extended to the end of September.

Paramount Global Inks Multiyear Deal with beIN For MENA Region

Paramount Global Content Distribution has signed a multiyear volume deal with Qatar-based powerhouse beIN Media Group that covers exclusive rights to content for pay TV, SVOD and catch-up SVOD subtitled in Arabic for the MENA region.

The deal also includes a Paramount+ branded destination for beIN’s OTT platform TOD, which will boost the content offering on the premium streaming platform that is available across the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey.

BeIN is a co-owner of U.S. indie studio Miramax. Its TOD streaming platform currently commands a 4% share of the MENA streaming market, thanks to its mix of premium sports and scripted content.

The content covered in the deal is available now to beIN subscribers and includes a slew of titles from Paramount+, SHOWTIME, CBS Studios, Republic Pictures and Paramount Pictures, such as 1883, 1923, Billions, Colin from Accounts, Frasier, Knuckles, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Mayor of Kingstown, PAW Patrol, Ray Donovan, Tulsa King and Yellowstone, as well as the upcoming series NCIS: Tony & Ziva and films Bob Marley: One Love, Rob Peace, Self Reliance and the Transformers and Mission: Impossible franchises.

“We’re thrilled to announce this volume deal and yet another Paramount+ branded destination with beIN Media Group in the Middle East and North Africa,” said Dan Cohen, chief content licensing officer at Paramount and president of Republic Pictures. “This deal is a testament to the power of the Paramount brand and its reputation for delivering high-demand, quality entertainment, and we’re very excited for the beIN audience to access our programming and discover new favorites within the branded destination.”

“This agreement underscores beIN’s commitment to delivering the best in entertainment to our audiences in the MENA region,” said Esra Özaral Altop, chief entertainment content officer at beIN Media Group. “By expanding our relationship with Paramount and securing these exclusive media rights, we are excited to provide our subscribers with an incredible lineup of movies and series that millions of viewers across the region simply cannot find elsewhere.”

Financial terms of the new deal spanning an unspecified number of years between Paramount Global and beIN Media Group – which was announced during the Mipcom TV market in Cannes – were not disclosed. The deal spans MENA region territories and does not include Turkish rights.

Paramount Global has another licensing deal in place for Nickelodeon content with Saudi-owned MBC Group, whose Shahid streamer leads the MENA streaming market with a 22% share, according to global analyst Omdia.


Though beIN recently started producing high-end Arab originals, the bulk of its scripted programming is either from Hollywood or Turkey.

Technology company, Fabacus, has announced a new global partnership with entertainment powerhouse, Paramount. This strategic collaboration will enhance Paramount’s licensing program by leveraging Fabacus’ cutting-edge technology, to create a comprehensive, digital product catalogue of all licensed products.

The digital catalogue data aims to drive sales growth across Paramount’s extensive range of IPs through enhancing brand protection, improving online discoverability, and identifying new retail opportunities for licensee partners through enhanced retail insights and analytics. In addition, the data will act as a foundation for environmental compliance for emerging European Union (EU) product related sustainability regulations.

The rollout of the partnership will begin across European, Middle Eastern and African (EMEA) markets, with plans to expand the digital innovation globally, streamlining licensing operations across Paramount’s worldwide portfolio.
