Nickelodeon Promotes Shelly Sumpter Gillyard to Executive Vice President, Talent, Music, and Events

NICKELODEON PROMOTES SHELLY SUMPTER GILLYARD TO EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, TALENT, MUSIC AND EVENTS, NICKELODEON GROUP



NEW YORK – Feb. 28, 2017 –Shelly Sumpter Gillyard has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Talent, Music and Events, Nickelodeon Group. In this new position, Sumpter Gillyard oversees all talent relations across live TV events, music and live-action programming for all brands in the Nickelodeon portfolio, inclusive of casting for live-action and animation properties. Sumpter Gillyard–a 19-year-Nick veteran based in the company’s West Coast offices in Burbank–will continue to report to Cyma Zarghami, President, Nickelodeon Group.

Sumpter Gillyard has worked most of the last decade to broaden the brand’s relationships within the creative community; build meaningful partnerships in the worlds of film, music, TV and sports; and mine for brand-new talent, as well. Sumpter Gillyard has been a driving force in assembling kids’ favorite celebrities and creating all-star line-ups for a wealth of Nickelodeon’s programming and tent-pole events, including: Kids’ Choice Awards, Kids’ Choice Sports and Nickelodeon HALO Awards.

She has brought in talent like Blake Shelton, Justin Timberlake, Nick Jonas, Will Smith, Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg to host Kids’ Choice Awards; and she forged a relationship with Michael Strahan to serve as executive producer of Kid’ Choice Sports, building a roster of sports superstars who want to work with Nick, including Seattle Seahawk’s Super Bowl-winning Quarter Back Russell Wilson as host and Kobe Bryant, who was famously slimed in gold in 2016. Sumpter Gillyard also oversees the selection and curation of talent for Nick’s annual pro-social-themed concert event, The HALO Awards, which most recently in 2016 was hosted by Nick Cannon and featured performances by Jason Derulo, Hailee Steinfeld, Zedd, Alessia Cara, and Daya.

Sumpter Gillyard’s role in developing talent for new and current live-action series has helped yield hit shows like the top-rated Henry Danger, Game Shakers, The Thundermans and Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn. She also has overseen celebrity stunt casting on some of Nick’s most iconic live-action series including Emma Stone on iCarly, Russell Westbrook on Henry Danger and Olympic Gold Medalist Alex Morgan on Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn.

Prior to this promotion, Sumpter Gillyard served as network’s Senior Vice President of Talent. She first joined the Nickelodeon Talent Department as a manager in 1997 and has held several roles throughout her tenure. Prior to joining Nick, she was Director of Publicity for The Steven Rifkind Company where she was responsible for coordinating publicity and promotional efforts for feature films including MGM’s Hoodlum, Touchstone’s The 6th Man and Orion’s 8 Heads In A Duffle Bag. She began her career at Cathcart Public Relations as an Account Executive where she managed accounts for MCA, Virgin, Loud Records, Columbia Records and Nickelodeon, among others.

Sumpter Gillyard is a graduate of California State University Northridge with a BA in Radio and Television Production.

Sumpter Gillyard joined the Nickelodeon Talent Department in 1997, where she served as a manager. Before joining Nick, she was director of publicity at the Steven Rifkind Co., and started her career as an account executive at Cathcart Public Relations, working with MCA, Virgin and Nickelodeon.
