David Zinn Wins 'Best Scenic Design of a Musical' 2018 Tony Award for 'SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical'

The American Theatre Wing has announced the Sponge-Tastic news that David Zinn won the award for "Best Scenic Design of a Musical" for his work on Nickelodeon’s smash hit SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical at the 72nd Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards! Check out David accepting his award below!:

David Zinn wears his heart on his sleeve

Whilst taking to Playbill, when asked what his shirt said, he opened his blazer and revealed: “‘Love is at the root of our resistance.’ It’s a Colin Kaepernick quote. I always like to bring in a little bit of the outside world in.”

Squidward's Big Break

In addition to David's big win, Squidward Q. Tentacles (Tony nominee Gavin Lee) interrupted hosts Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles to bring some class and glamour to the proceedings with a fantastic performance of his hit song “I’m Not a Loser”, which was also the evening’s leggiest number.

A huge congratulations to David Zinn and the cast and crew of the Tony-award winning SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical! :)

The Tony-award winning SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical is now playing at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway at West 47th Street). For full information, reviews and tickets, visit
