Kel Mitchell Benefit Show Coming To LeTourneau University’s Belcher Center In Texas

Longview, TX: Actor, writer and director Kel Mitchell says his comedy show Friday, June 15 at LeTourneau University’s Belcher Center will entertain multiple generations of fans.

Kel Mitchell will perform his comedy show at 7:30 p.m. June 15 at LeTourneau University’s Belcher Center. The event will benefit Listen-UP AMS, an arts and education organization in Longview.

“The cool thing about me (is) that I have a current show on Nickelodeon now and have a young generation that watches me,” he told the Longview News-Journal, “and then I also have that generation of fans that watched me in the 1990s, so I literally have the whole family.”

Mitchell, the 1997 Cable Ace Award winner for best actor in a comedy series for his work on the Nickelodeon comedy series Kenan & Kel, is bringing his 90s Explosion Comedy Show to Longview.

The event, which starts at 7:30 p.m. on the LeTourneau University campus, is a benefit supporting Listen-Up AMS, an arts and educational organization in Longview whose mission is to inspire, promote and encourage through the performing arts while cultivating the passion and interests of youth to pursue careers in math and science fields.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $20 for VIP, and they can be purchased by visiting belchercenter.ticketforce.com.

“It’s just a lot of fun,” Mitchell said. “I’m going to bring a lot of games that we played, stuff from the 90s. I like to have energy on stage, and one of the main things that I like to do is to shake my fans’ hands and do interactive types of games with them and let them just come onstage and have fun with me.”

Mitchell’s award-winning career also includes All That for Nickelodeon, for which he won the Kids’ Choice best actor Award in 1999. He also earned Daytime Emmy nominations for voice work in Clifford the Big Red Dog in 2001 and again in 2002.

His more recent television acting roles include Nickelodeon’s Game Shakers, Sam & Cat, The Thundermans and Wild Grinders, TRU TV’s Friends of the People, Cartoon Network’s Loiter Squad, TV One’s Love That Girl and Disney’s Liv & Maddie.

Mitchell says that fans from the 1990s “are parents now, and then you have that middle where they’re in college, who, they watched the show, and they watch the new stuff, too, so doing stand-up really helps me out as far as knowing the crowd and knowing what works and what games and what things to do.”

Fans should be excited and ready to have fun when they arrive at the Belcher Center June 15, as Mitchell brings the energetic characters he’s most known for to life onstage, he said.

“And I always keep my ear to the streets of what’s popular now,” he added. “I always incorporate things for everybody, for all of my different generations of fans.”
