Kindness, Humility Define 8 Year Old Fort Myers 'I Am Frankie' Star

Kindness, humility define 8 year old Fort Myers Nickelodeon star

At first, there’s not a whole lot that makes Fort Myers third grader Ashton Heathcoat different from most kids. He plays hockey, does well in school, and loves playing with LEGO sets.

But now he's also on a national television show. Heathcoat recently made his debut on the second season of Nickelodeon's hit comedy-drama series I Am Frankie, in which he portrays Beto!

"It is a big deal, but more than anything in our family we like to stay grounded," Torrie Heathcoat, Ashton's mom told NBC2 News.

That's why Heathcoat doesn't brag about his role in the show to other kids.

“I had no idea,” his teacher Rhonda Kerr said. "I asked Ashton about it, and he didn't really say much."

Humility might be Heathcoat's secret to success. At just eight years old, he is the youngest member of the I Am Frankie cast.

“He doesn’t have to be an NHL star or a TV star," Torrie Heathcoat said. "If he’s a good, kind, kid and a good adult... I would be okay with that.”

Although the role of Beto on I Am Frankie is Heathcoat's first series-regular role, the young actor began his acting career at age 5, appearing in print ads and commercials for JetBlue Airlines and MasterCard. As well as acting, he sings and dances. When he isn't performing, Ashton is a successful ice hockey goalie.
