Nickelodeon to Debut Girl Power Float at 114th Santa Claus Parade in Toronto, Canada

Santa Claus has announced the exciting news that Nickelodeon will be debuting a Girl Power-themed float at the 114th Santa Claus Parade in Toronto, Canada! Santa made the announcement at his top-secret workshop on Friday, November 2. This will be Nickelodeon's first float in the world-famous Santa Claus Parade.

The Santa Claus Parade is the largest children's parade in North America and the largest outdoor entertainment event held in Canada every year. This year the parade will be held on Sunday, November 18, and will feature 32 floats - the highest number of floats to date - and 21 marching bands, making it the biggest parade Toronto has ever seen!

Nickelodeon’s Girl Power float features giant, realistic replicas of Nickelodeon heroines Princess Nella from Nella the Princess Knight, and twin genies-in-training Shimmer and Shine. The popular animated preschool series provide positive and empowering role models for young girls.

Additional new floats for this year also include: Sunlife Financial, Sunwing.ca and Autentica Cuba, and Canadian Tire will also have an exciting new float.

"It is great to see how the support and spirit grows every year," said Clay Charters, Santa Claus Parade Executive Director. "Thanks to the support of corporations and individuals, the parade has become a world class event."

In addition to the support of all those involved, there are a number of initiatives that make the parade bigger and better every year. Metro grocery stores will sell red noses, to help light the way for Santa, at their check-outs with money raised going to the Parade and the United Way. The Holly Jolly Fun Run, a 5km run, will kick off the parade starting at 11:45 a.m. on parade day. All proceeds raised support the Santa Claus Parade. Also new this year, individuals can purchase GO tickets online in advance at gotransit.com/santa to avoid lineups during parade day.

"I am looking forward to seeing all the smiling faces along the parade route," said Santa Claus, who flew into town from the North Pole to offer a preview of this year's magic. "This parade demonstrates how we can make something truly wonderful with the support of everyone involved – that's what Christmas spirit is all about!"

Alfred Iannarelli, general manager and creative director of the parade, has been part of the yearly festivities since 1970 and said this year's floats - which are built year-round - are particularly impressive. While Santa's float is always the parade's highlight, it was kept under wraps at a sneak preview of the Santa Claus Parade held on Friday, Nov. 2.

The Parade starts at 12:30 p.m. at Bloor and Christie Streets; travels east along Bloor Street to University Avenue, travels south on University Avenue (in the north bound lanes) to Wellington Street, then travels east on Wellington to Yonge Street, south on Yonge Street and then goes east on Front Street. The parade will head south on Yonge Street and east on Front Street, ending at the St. Lawrence Market. The 114th annual Santa Claus Parade airs Sunday, November 18 at 4:30 p.m. ET/MT on CTV and 5:30 p.m. AT on CTV Two Atlantic and CTV GO.
