Foxtel Australia to Launch SpongeBob SquarePants Pop Up Channel on Saturday 21st September 2019

It's SpongeBob SquarePants' 20th anniversary, and to commemorate 20 years of SpongeBob SquarePants, Nickelodeon Australia is partnering with the Australian pay television company to launch the SpongeBob SquarePants Pop Up Channel in September 2019!

The SpongeBob SquarePants Pop-Up Channel will bring fans a nonstop Bob Fest, airing everyday between Saturday 21st September and Tuesday 8th October 2019 on Foxtel Channel 702. The 18-day mega marathon will air 11 seasons, 240 episodes and more than 432 hours of the globally-acclaimed series.

The channel will launch in time for the upcoming school holidays and will provide fans of the character with back-to-back Spongebob content.

Foxtel's SpongeBob SquarePants Pop Up Channel follows SKY in New Zealand hosting a SpongeBob SquarePants Pop-Up channel throughout July 2019.

This activity will mark the first time Foxtel has produced a dedicated Kid’s TV pop-up channel which will be available to all residential subscribers.

Nickelodeon will still air regular programming on Foxtel, channel 701 (Nickelodeon) and 703 (Nick Jr.) during this period. The Pop-Up channel will be accessible to all Foxtel residential subscribers.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Pop Up Channel forms part of the "Best Year Ever", Nickelodeon's year-long global celebration commemorating 20 years of SpongeBob SquarePants, one of the most iconic TV series and characters ever created, which launched with the premiere of the all-new mixed live-action and animated special “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout” and will lead up to the Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies theatrical, The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, coming 2020.

To further celebrate SpongeBob SquarePants' 20th anniversary, Nickelodeon has teamed up with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef to launch Junior Citizens Of The Reef, a brand-new call-to-action pro-social initiative which aims to raise awareness about the Great Barrier Reef, and what can be done to protect it - a cause very close to SpongeBob's heart.

In the 20 years since SpongeBob first went to air, pollution and extreme changes in temperature have put the reef in more danger than ever. That's why Nickelodeon wants kids to join them to help raise awareness of one of the world's greatest natural assets! Kids can play an active part by signing up to become a Junior Citizen Of The Reef today at nick.com.au/reefsquad. Kids who sign up to become a Junior Citizen Of The Reef will receive a personnel certificate so that they can share and display their official citizen status with their family and friends to encourage them to follow their lead and take action.

SpongeBob SquarePants was created by marine biologist Stephen Hillenburg, who sadly passed away in November 2018 following a battle with ALS. A fitting legacy for Hillenburg would be for his beloved character to help protect the reefs in our ocean.

In the September 2019 issue of It GiRL, fans can find out more about the SpongeBob SquarePants Pop Up Channel as well as a magical Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty poster and a bonus Mermaid necklace.
