'Avatar: The Last Airbender' is Now Available on Netflix Australia

If you've wanted to re-binge Nickelodeon's beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender lately, but been frustrated at its availability in Australia, here's some good news for NickHeads down under: The entire series is now available to stream on Netflix Australia! That's right, all 61 episodes over three seasons ("Books") are now available to stream!

Created by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and airing between 2005 and 2008, Avatar: The Last Airbender, is set in world people can manipulate the elements of Earth, Water, Fire, and Air, and they lived peacefully in different regions until one of the nations started a world war. One master who can manipulate all four elements, dubbed the "Avatar," had been able to prevent this war, but disappeared soon after. 100 years later, a new Avatar named Aang awakens and sets out on a journey to master all the elements in order to bring peace to the land once more by defeating Fire Lord Ozai and ending the destructive war with the Fire Nation.

Avatar: The Last Airbender emerged from its initial three seasons (61 episodes) as one of the most beloved animated properties in history.

The series was nominated for—and won—Annie Awards, Genesis Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Peabody Award.

Following the success of Avatar: The Last Airbender (also known as Avatar: The Legend of Aang internationally), DiMartino and Konietzko created a follow-up series, The Legend of Korra, that returned to the world of Avatar years after Aang’s death to follow Korra, his successor as Avatar. That series ran for 52 episodes over four seasons between 2012-2014. Unfortunately, Korra isn't currently available on Netflix AU, although hopefully it'll pop up soon. It'd be a real shame not to follow up Aang's adventures with Avatar Korra and her crew.

Legend of Korra was originally available through Amazon Prime, but the series has since been moved to NickHits, which costs $7.99 a month after a free 7-day trial. Only season two is currently available on the service.

In addition to the franchise's success, both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra have continued on in graphic novel series, which continue to roll out new original stories. The Avatar: The Last Airbender graphic novel series spent 70 cumulative weeks on the New York Times Graphic Novel Bestseller list, hitting number one.

Although Netflix Australia adding Avatar: The Last Airbender to its programming library is fantastic, it is quite strange, as the streaming service has been pulling Nickelodeon programming from it's line-up in various countries, including in the U.K. and Germany.

However, a live-action adaption of Avatar: The Last Airbender is currently in the works at Netflix from original creators DiMartino and Konietzko, who will serve as showrunners and executive producers.

Netflix also recently debuted TV movies inspired by iconic Nickelodeon series Rocko's Modern Life ("Static Cling") and Invader ZIM ("Enter the Florpus"). Nickelodeon is also currently producing movies inspired by Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Loud House for the SVOD.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is also available to watch on Stan in Australia.
