Gerardo Parra Inspires Yomiuri Giants x Baby Shark Collection in Japan

The Bunkyō, Tokyo-based professional baseball team the Yomiuri Giants (読売ジャイアンツ) has partnered with ViacomCBS Consumer Products to launch GIANTS x BABY SHARK, a brand new range of apparel and accessories inspired by the iconic Baby Shark (ベイビーシャーク) brand in Japan!


The GIANTS x BABY SHARK consumer product line spans apparel, such as T-shirts (Tシャツ) and kids hats (キッズハット) in a variety of sizes, produced from 100% cotton (綿100%); homeware, including face towels (フェイスタオル) and bath towels (バスタオル); a toy puzzle (ビッグピースパズル); knapsacks (ナップサック); and accessories, including purses (巾着) and keychains (キーホルダー). Price points range from ¥660 ($6.25 USD) - ¥4,950 ($46.87).

The news follows the Yomiuri Giants signing Venezuelan player Gerardo Parra, who is remembered in Washington for using the “Baby Shark” song to inspire a team and its fan base on the way to the Nationals’ 2019 World Series championship.

The 13-piece GIANTS x BABY SHARK collection is available in two designs: the "Family Version" featuring Baby Shark and his family wearing a Giants caps, and the "Parra Version" featuring a collaboration between Parra and Baby Shark (some products are only available in the "Family Version").

Baby Shark launched on YouTube in November 2015 and took the world by storm, amassing 5.7 billion views and becoming the second most-watched video in the platform’s history. With music, characters, story and dance all combined together, the song recorded a 20-week-streak on the Billboard Hot 100 and spawned a viral phenomenon #BabySharkChallenge, generating over one million cover videos around the globe.

Nickelodeon, a division of ViacomCBS Networks, and SmartStudy, the global entertainment company behind the beloved children’s brand, Pinkfong, announced in June 2019 that they are partnering to develop a new original animated series based on Baby Shark for global distribution, while ViacomCBS Consumer Products (VCP) will be managing consumer products licensing worldwide, excluding Asia, for the property. Titled Baby Shark’s Big Show!, Nickelodeon's Baby Shark animated series is currently in production, and set to debut on Nickelodeon in the U.S. with an all-new original holiday special this December, with premieres rolling out across its preschool platforms in spring 2021. Following the U.S. launch, the series will roll out on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels internationally.

「Baby Shark(ベイビーシャーク)」は幼児向けの童謡で、2016年にYouTubeで公開されたビデオは、動画再生回数が現在までにYouTube歴代2位となる67億回を超え、世界中にその歌と、キャラクター、シャークダンスが拡散し続けています。

今回のコラボグッズはTシャツやフェイスタオルなど、計13商品。

ジャイアンツのキャップをかぶったベイビーシャークとその家族が登場する「ファミリーver.」と、

パーラ選手とベイビーシャークがコラボした「パーラver.」の2種類のデザインがあります(一部商品は「ファミリーver.」のみ)。
