Kids' Choice Awards 2025: Nickelodeon Confirms Plans to Host KCA 2025, to Announce Date Soon

Nickelodeon has further confirmed that Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2025 is still scheduled to go ahead later this year.

In February, Paramount Global — which has agreed to a merger with David Ellison’s Skydance Media that is expected to close in April — revealed that is hitting pause on select tentpole events in 2025, including the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) and the CMT Music Awards, to reimagine what they might look like in the future and “optimize” its tentpole strategy.

Also affected are the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Mexico and the MTV MIAWs, formerly known as the MTV Millennial Awards, an annual ceremony honoring Latin American music and youth culture, according to an internal memo that was obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. The memo came from the office of Bruce Gillmer, Paramount’s president, music, music talent, programming and events, media networks and chief content officer, music, Paramount+.

The pause will not affect the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards (KCA) and the MTV VMAs in the U.S., as well as such local events as Isle of MTV Malta and the VMAJs, according to sources familiar with the situation, with Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2025 set to be held later this year.. It wasn’t immediately clear when a decision about the future of the events affected by the move would be made.

In a new statement to Yahoo! Entertainment, a Nickelodeon spokesperson has confirmed that the annual Kids’ Choice Awards in the U.S. will move forward as planned, with an official date expected to be announced “in the next month or so.”

Update (4/11) - Nickelodeon will host the Kids' Choice Awards 2025 during mid-June 2025!

Update (5/14) - Nickelodeon will host Kids' Choice Awards 2025 on Saturday, June 21 at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT)!

However, it was revealed today (3/15) that there will be no MTV Movie & TV Awards for a second consecutive year. MTV put a pause on the awards show last year, with the expectation it would return this year in a reimagined format. Sources have told Deadline that the show remains on pause this year, and updates on future plans will be revealed once they’re solidified.

News that the 2024 MTV Movie & TV Awards was a no-go came after the 2023 edition was impacted by the WGA strike and had to pivot away from a live event to a pre-taped show after Drew Barrymore pulled out as host and the Writers Guild geared up to picket its venue. Ratings were respectable, which raised the possibility for the awards show to permanently tweak its format.

Traditionally held at the start of the summer blockbuster season, the show launched in 1992 as the MTV Movie Awards and was rebranded to include TV categories in 2017. The news was first reported by TMZ.

The last Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Mexico - the 15th edition of the awards ceremony - was held in November 2024 and celebrated SpongeBob SquarePants' 25th anniversary. Although the Mexican edition of Nickelodeon's iconic slimefest, the awards have grown over the years to incorporate categories celebrating artists and content makers in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Brazil.

Paramount has been slimming down in several regards over the past year. In August, the conglomerate’s co-CEOs George Cheeks, Brian Robbins, and Chris McCarthy unveiled a sweeping plan to cut 15 percent of the company’s U.S. workforce in pursuit of $500 million in cost savings. The first of three rounds of layoffs took place shortly after that. Among the changes back then was the shuttering of Paramount TV Studios, as well as the departure of a number of high-profile execs. The second phase in the fall affected such parts of the business as CBS News.

Read the full memo on the pausing of select Paramount events below.

Team,

We want to share some news. We are pausing a few events for 2025, as we look to reimagine and optimize our events slate going forward. These include the MTV EMAs, MTV MIAWs, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Mexico, and CMT Music Awards.

Our world-class events remain a key component of Paramount’s music offering as we continue to raise the bar in delivering iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that drive pop culture. We have the best team in the business, and we are grateful for your hard work and dedication in bringing these events to life.

Thank you,
Bruce

MTV to Host The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards on May 7

Every movie, every TV show has brought you here - tune into the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, celebrating all the movies and TV shows that made you cry more, laugh more, Barrymore, airing Sunday, May 7 at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on MTV, simulcasting across BET, BETHer, Comedy Central, CMT, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TV Land & VH1!

The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards return with an epic Los Angeles takeover at Barker Hangar. The evening honors the biggest and best in both movies and television, across scripted and unscripted, for one supersized, can't-miss event. The event also airs on MTV internationally in more than 150 countries.

Sponsors of the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards include Cheetos® and SONIC®.

Update (5/7) - There's been a few changes to this year's MTV Movie & TV Awards due to the on-going Writers Guide (WGA) strike: Drew Barrymore has stepped down as this year's host, although she will return to host the 2024 MTV Movie & TV Awards next year. The show will not broadcast live this year, moving to a pre-taped ceremony. There will also be no red carpet this year.

“As we carefully navigate how best to deliver the fan first awards’ show we envisioned that our team has worked so hard to create, we’re pivoting away from a live event that still enables us to produce a memorable night full of exclusive sneak peaks, irreverent categories our audience has come to expect, and countless moments that will both surprise and delight as we honour the best of film and TV over the past year,” Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming and events at Paramount Global, and executive producer of the MTV Movie & TV Awards, said in a new statement.

“I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike,” Barrymore said in a statement to ET. “Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television is born out of their creation. And until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait but I’ll be watching from home and hope you will join me. I thank MTV, who has truly been some of the best partners I have ever worked with. And I can’t wait to be a part of this next year, when I can truly celebrate everything that MTV has created, which is a show that allows fans to choose who the awards go to and is truly inclusive.”

Following Barrymore’s announcement, Gillmer told Variety at the time that while they supported her decision, the show still planned to go on, creatively working around the terms of the strike by utilizing live performances and pre-taped segments.

“Drew, without question, she’s been incredible. It’s hard to imagine that we’ve ever had a better experience with a host,” Gillmer stated. “She’s more of a partner really, she’s in it every day, just super passionate and super engaged and creative. She even brought some of her own team along for the journey. So when this all reared its head, we started to prepare for what could be. She is not surprisingly, standing in solidarity with the writers, which we have full respect for. She has our full support.”
