Could 'Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender' Be Released Sooner Than Expected?

Aang and the Gaang are set to make a big return later this year in a new animated movie, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, to the delight of fans that fell in love with the world and characters when the original series debuted in 2005 - and it looks like we may be getting to watch the movie sooner than expected!

Without going into to many details, a brief timeline of the film up to now: The movie was originally scheduled to release in theaters on Friday, October 9, however, late last year, Paramount pivoted its release to a Paramount+ streaming exclusive, originally slated for the same date. However, a few months ago, a first look of the movie was revealed when a retailer accidentally uploaded new apparel based on the film early, followed by the movie being leaked online for a short while.

Now, fast-forward to today, and according to listings websites, Paramount+ Brazil has revealed that Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender may be about to premiere on the streaming platform on Saturday, July 25!

However, it's important to note that the title is listed as 'series', which could indicate that this is a mistake. Avatar: The Last Airbender was titled Avatar: The Legend of Aang in many countries during initial release, and the listing could refer to the series being added to the service rather than the new movie.

At the time of posting, it's best to take this release date with a pinch of salt until a release date is confirmed by Paramount.

Based on the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: Aang, The Last Airbender is directed by Montgomery with Steve Ahn (Voltron: Legendary Defender) and William Mata (Dora and the Fantastical Creatures) co-directing. Latifa Ouaou, Maryann Garger, Konietzko and DiMartino serve as producers. Award-winning composer Jeremy Zuckerman scored the film.

The voice cast features Eric Nam as Aang, Jessica Mattenas as Katara, Dionne Quanas as Toph, Román Zaragoza as as Sokka and Steven Yeunas as Zuko, with Dave Bautista as the villain, Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Dee Bradley Baker, Freida Pinto and Ke Huy Quan.

Set years after the events of The Last Airbender, the film begins as Avatar Aang, the world’s last Airbender, learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve.
